Hi, can someone help please.
I have a Volvo V50, 2005, 2.0 Diesel, this morning Ive done a service myself(oil filter, oil, fuel filter, air filter) and now the car wont start up! Its turning and turning but it just wont fire up and ive noticed that there is no diesel flowing through the clear fuel pipes.(there is plenty of diesel in tank)
Ive opened the fuel filter lid again and there is fuel in there but it wont flow through.

Is there a fuel cut off valve somewher that need to be re-opened?
What else car I do/check?
Thanks

oh dear, start with fill the diesel filter with diesel, then see if you can download a better one of these to draw the fuel through by connecing inline to the fuel return and pump like buggeray, note this halfords thing is crap, but it's the pricipale that counts.

Perhaps you could admire your engine mounts that go hard with turbo pressure (THINK)

Laser Syphon Pump from Halfords Price ?1.99 (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_56 7043_langId_-1_categoryId_165469#dtab)

Yes m8 ive tried that with a big hand held syphon pump and the fuel does flow through and there is pressure when i remove the pump. When I re connect the fuel pipe and turn the engine it just wont fire up.(its been running fine until i had a go at diy)

When I remove the fuel filter cap it is full of fuel, so cant understand why it wont flow through.

The filter I replaced was the same shape and size and ive gone back to the parts shop just to check and they have said its the correct part.

is there a special way in closing the fuel filter to avoide air lock?

slightly confused, put hand pump back in line, try starting it and leave pump in line for 10mins, then remove the pump and hope for the best, if it's your own shed then leave the pump in, so you can bleed if you are lucky enough to run outt afuel

Ok m8 thanks, ill try that in the morning.
What I dont understand is when I use the syphon on line the fule flows through but when I re connect the pipe and turn the engine no fuel runs through the pipes!

Been here done this there is a special VOLVO tool that you put inline and pump its tits off then get someone to crank while you keep pumping and when the bastard fires up let it run a while then remove pump and reconnect fuel line.

Well whilst you are thinking about that, think bacwards, something like a old vw beetle, mini, mk2 escort, mechanical pump, carbatooter, then why is it if you put anline fuel filter on it, it has an air bubble in it, it's a 'sealed' system of fuel, why the air bubble never goes!

OK so looks like a toe to a Volvo garage., what I was trying to avoide in the first place!

Just a thought, would it work if I put it into gear and toe it along the road, would that eventually get the fuel flowing?
Thanks

Might do it before the pump get's destroyed due to no oil, no lubrication.

You could always TRY cracking off the errector pipes and see what happens.

try handpump in situ first

some garages do tow these to start them after fuel filter change

are these common rail with no low pressure or lift pump?

I usually use the 2 gallon mityvac to draw fuel through the filter and then swap connections to pressure feed it back into the filter inlet whilst cranking (works on many stubborn bstrds)

Just had a thought, had some pile of crap car some thing like an Escort
(pronunced SSSS-court) and the only way it we could get it to run
was to put a bit of rag in fuel tank and pressuise with airline, tank went 'plonk' but it started though.

Also had something like a lawnmower, no start when hot, so ended up puting gob over fuel filler and blowing, and yucking string, away it went.

Sorted!
Towed it down the road and within 10 seconds it fired up, good enough.

By the way called Volvo garage this morning and they quoted
