Hi,
I have aquired a Nikkai USB to Serial adapter: USB to Serial 9-Pin Male Adaptor > Maplin (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=29968)
But am unfortunately without a Driver disk. I need this desperately to install.
Would anyone so kindly upload the required files to RapidShare: Easy Filehosting (http://www.rapidshare.com) or a similar file host?
It is much appreciated :D

downloading and installing the drivers i posted from index (http://www.prolific.com.tw)
was the 1st step,
2nd step: plug out then plug back in the usb -serial cable , it usually comes up that the system filename "ser2pl.sys" is needed here is the address for that file www.floridaprobe.com/downloads/ser2pl.sys and follow the instructions to the letter on the page. good luck all
juslovingit
29th December, 2008, 02:23 AM
If you have already installed a USB-to-Serial converter and the Florida Probe freezes in the calibration routine, you will need to download this replacement driver file: ser2pl.sys
This file must be placed into the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder for Windows XP, ME or into the C:\WINNT\system32\drivers folder for Windows NT, 2000. Windows will ask if you want to replace an already existing file with that same name in the destination folder. It will show that the file you are replacing is smaller than the file downloaded here. Click 'yes' and restart your computer.

for anyone who needs this info and drivers for a usb to serial converter here are the drivers for both XP and VISTA. make sure you use the correct file for your computer O/S
*******************************************
usb to serial convertor
this is a driver file for a [usb to serial convertor]
this is to enable you to use a [ laptop without a 9 pin com port] . to use a null modem cable to programme your receiver. it says plug and play on these devices, they dont and you need a driver, so if your device came without a driver disc use this it works 100%.
[1] open and run the driver file with the device unplugged
[2] it might ask you to uninstall old drivers [say yes]
[3] re-start your pc after installed.
[4] connect your usb to serial device.
[5] check in the device manager settings
[ prolific usb to serial com port.-com [1].

Flashed my eurovox yesterday, using the guides the only problem was getting my laptop to use the USB serial and nul modem cable.
As this was a cheep cable from flebay it came with no drivers, after searching for about two hours and trying six or seven I foung the one i needed. thought I would share this as the drivers i found on here did not work for me.
The usb port has the numbers HL-340.The driver can be downloaded from-
http://www.winchiphead.com/download/CH341/CH341SER.ZIP.
I hope saves someone some time.

I am new to this site and seem to be having the same problems as most on here. i recently purchased a nikkai USB to serial for my laptop running xp and cant seem to get the driver to install properly.
when i put the disc in just opens up with 3 files. i have tried connecting the USB cable and then tried to install this way and it says it cant locate the necessary software.
I know i need to post before i can download any of the drivers i just dont understand why the driver maplin provide does not work. hopefully once i download one of the drivers it will work

I found my friend had an old laptop with a serial port and XP so I tried using that, at first looked more promising as the software was not flicking through ports it just found port 1.
Still no luck!!!

Cheers,

you can change the com port in device manager-com ports-properties-port settings-advanced there you will see port number with drop down box change it to ports 1-4 which ever is free.

Thanks for the files, i will try and download them shortly and use them with win7 7100. I am hoping that this will work better than the installation pack that prolific provides.
In case anyone else tries it with Win7,
- Compatibility mode wont help (Tried XP SP3, Vista, Vista SP2)
- Windows Update search for drivers wont find it either
Ill let you know how it works if it works!

I was having trouble with Vista aswell I tried the drivers that came with the adaptor and the drivers on this thread and nothing worked. So I done a bit of searching and used this 'Windows Vista driver for prolific chip USB Serial Adapters' plugged in the Nikkai usb adaptor and Vista recognised it no problem at all
this driver also worked on a Win7 install i did last night (see post 23)

Hi all,
Ive a different question about these converters. I bought a Aten uc232a converter about 8 years ago to load programmes into PLCs logic controllers and worked fine until 2 weeks ago when she malfunctioned. When it was working it showed up on device manager under usb controllers.
Bought a maplins converter loaded driver and it shows up on ports not usb controller and shows that is working properly.Every other usb device i have comes under usb not ports ie,( Printer,O2 wireless ). Is this converter meant to be in usb not ports cause it wont load programmes for me and ive tried out of interest flasing a starview box but nothing happens.
Tried setting braud rate and com setting but no joy.Ive windows xp.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I've read through this thread with interest and have subsequently registered on the site to try and get some advice. I have a generic USB to RS232 cable which I purchased on fleabay. When plugged into my laptop windows 7 automatically updated the required drivers for it and it works fine. However, I also need it to work with a desktop PC which is running XP home and I have spent three hours trying to install drivers without any success. I have downloaded pretty much every driver mentioned on this thread without any luck and really don't know what to do next. When I try to install the drivers manually the wizard can't find suitable drivers in any of the files downloaded. I have seen some people mention .rar files but how do I get XP to recognise these as driver files?
Any advice is greatly received.

are you using the correct com port in order for it to connect, with the eurovox it had to be on ports 1 to 4 otherwise it would not detect the connection.
