Hello All

I currently have a softmodded wii that is at 4.0E and would like to update to 4.2E so that I can play a back up of Mario Galaxy 2 using NeoGamma R8. There are many guides out there and I am confused as to which I should follow as there dosen't seem to be a guide that updates 4.0E to 4.2E. I am scared that if I follow the wrong one I will mess something up.

Could some one please point me in the right direction? I have searched this forum for a guide like this and I am still unsure which to follow.

I am really sorry if this is a noob question and I hope it doesn't anoy any one! Thank you for your support guys.

Kindest Regards

put this in ur apps folder on sd card and run from homebrew channel v4.2 safe firmware updater (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/v4-2-safe-firmware-updater-1037/)

Thanks for the help.

I ran the v4.2 safe firmware updater (wlmailhtml:{79A290D3-B557-4059-B0DB-8F098B67F96C}mid://00000000/!x-usc:http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/v4-2-safe-firmware-updater-1037/) and it successfully updated my wii to 4.2E, thank you, however I now have a problem.

When setting up my SD card I also added Neogamma R8. Once the update was complete I was returned directly to the homebrew channel where I was able to successfully launch the back up of SMG2 using Neogamma R8. After exiting SMG2 I noticed my homebrew channel was missing from the Wii menu!!

Is there an easy way of getting this back on or do I have to treat my Wii like a Virgin Wii and follow a full 4.2E Softmod guide?

Hope someone can help and sorry for being a noob.

Kindest Regards

I was able to solve my own problem!! (pats his own noob back)

If any one has had the same problem as described in my post above then there is no need to do a full softmod. All that needs to be done is to simply install the homebrew channel using "bannerbomb alpha v2" which can be found at the following:

bannerbomb (http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/index.new.php)

The procedure should be as follows:

1. Make a backup of your SD card then clear it.
2. Follow the above bannerbomb guide and install Only the homebrew channel.
3. Exit out of the HackMii installer and turn off the Wii.
4. Clear your SD card and then re-copy the contents of your backup which was made in step one.

That is it, done!

Happy gaming!

I've been searching for something like this for ages! I downloaded the rar archive, and in the readme it states that different region settings could mess with the install.
I live in the UK and have a UK Wii, will updating my Wii using this method still be safe? And any possible guesses of the chances of bricking it?

Thanks a lot in advance! (:

yes you can do that or use modmii to softmod it,and when asked if you'd like to update to 4.1 click yes,as thats one of the best firmwares to be on.

Looks like its working. Everything seemes like before but now it says 4.2E. I have a original game "Just Dance" it didnt work before and it doesnt now. It says " In order to use this software, you must perform a Wii system update. Select OK to begin the update." I havent done that. Is it safe to do that? Getting New Super Mario Bros. Will test that tomorrow. Last I tried that the TV went green. Thanks for a great site.

there should be no need to mod it again, but if you want to then you can just mod over the old one it wont cause any harm, because you already have the homebrew channel installed all you would need to do is install from step 1 of this tut http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/wii-4-2e-softmod-tutorial-easy-follow-guide-67927/

Or if you got an original copy NSMB, stick it in the wii, accept the update, will put you on 4.1, do the 4.1 softmod.

Hello again

I'm a total noob at this softmoding thing so i got it all wrong. I had a 3.9 softmoded wii and i got an original guitar hero 6 disc so when it asked for an update in order to play the game i said yes and it updated to version 4.2e and only after doing that i used "v4.2 safe firmware updater" which i think was pointless. So everything is messed up: Neogama doesnt work and configurable usb loader freezes at the starting screen.

Is there any possible solution to solve this or should i remove everything and do the whole softmoding thing again for 4.2e? Thanks in advance!
