Hi everyone,
I'm very confused in regards to mileage location in a 1999 BMW 740i (E38)
Is it possible to change millage with tacho universal, or do I have to manually program (Cluster, EWS, and LCM)?
I scanned the car with Taco Universal and got the following values:
Tacho sw 14 hw15
Tacho 310726km
key/ews 983040km < why this many km.. what does this mean? do I have to change it?
lkm/lcm 310700km
I disassembled cluster and found 35080 eeprom.
What does tachosoft mileage mean when they write "BMW E39 Low" and "BMW E38/E39 High"?
Any help or clarification on where to begin and how to go about this would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!!

I had a very similar value in 900K range read out of EWS, which also made no sense to me, but knowing that I'm not alone in this is sort of comforting. Maybe it isn't actually stored in EWS for our cars (mine is 98 540).
Changing miles in LCM is very easy as you might know.
As for the cluster, I believe after a certain year (late 97??) you have to solder a few wires to the board to connect an EPROM programmer to be able to change miles there.

E38-39 low: Display of km and a small button on the instrument panel glass.
E-38-39 high: large display and 2 buttons
In this model this year, not to do or EWS and LCM.

On your car mileage was rolled back. Real mileage is what show EWS module. You must read ews mcu with HC11 programmer and post here the dump.

Tachonow, what do you think happened to our EWS (mine and the OP's) that read mileage in 900K range? Maybe it was replaced at one time and not properly coded? Any idea?

let's see, in the E-38 And 39 we have two types of keys, one round and a diamond-shaped, in the latter if you can read the actual km car in EWS, but round-shaped keys, the EWS, always read a wrong value of 980000 km approximately, and I always say, it is not necessary to change km in the EWS, you just have to do it in the dash and LCM, which must be provided they have not changed the km same box.
Greetings
