Wiring/connector between crankshaft sensor and ecu?
Check signal from crankshaft sensor with a scope.

With scope you should get a rectangular signal, does the engine was completely rebuilt or you just did the timing.

Signal depends on type of sensor. See: Crankshaft & Camshaft Position Sensors (http://www.aa1car.com/library/crank_sensors.htm)

Thx Oldford i will check & post here .
BTW : the engine was completely rebuilt & used to start fine before , there was just a noise coming from it .

Hi
Have you checked what the Immobiliser light is doing when you put the Ignition to ON position, also is the Engine Management Light comes ON when you put ignition ON .
Immobiliser's very common problem on them so please check in immobiliser if you have any fault codes or in Engine ECU.
Also try disconnecting Battery for few min see if it can reset it self if its Immobiliser fault
Hope this helps.

SEEM TO THINK THERE IS A TECHNICAL BULLTIN
ABOUT THESE.
YARIS ONLY - TRY LEAVING THE IGNITION ON FOR LONG-TIME HALF AN HOUR THEN TRY AGAIN

I would not think the immo would cause a crank sensor code. Only time I ever get this code is Bad sensor, broken wire, backed out terminal or faulty pcm. You should ohm all wires from sensor straight to pcm.

Hi All
Sorry I did not notice this fault code if you did diagnose and its coming up as Crank Sensor, than it could be your Timing is out by one tooth its worth rechecking the Timing again.
Hope this helps.

I don't think so.... I works with yaris along time and i never find such as problem..
Try to check your ground point at the engine room or cylinder head body..
might help

Hi Guys , many thx 4 all the help . Here is the situation as it stands .
I don't have a scope so i got an auto electrician to come out & check the crank sensor signal . He reckons signal is perfect but cannot figure out why it's not starting.
Before changing the crank sensor my scanner would not reset the MIL , now the scanner has reset it & the fault does not show up any more .
When turning ignition on MIL & other lights , light up as it should . There is no lights on cluster that flash or warn me of any other problems . The immobiliser light ( think it's the pic of a key ?) does not come on at any stage , is that normal ?
At present my scanner shows MIL status = OFF & NO FAULT CODES .

Ishfaak , how do i add VIN ? Can i remove eprom in ECU & add VIN thru my programmer ? I'm first going to try other suggestions of leaving key for half an hour , if that does not work i will try yr method .

The immobiliser (key) light should come on for a few seconds when ignition is switched on then go out

Ok guys , paid someone to do a quick check with Intelligent Tester , VIN No. & other diagnostics check ok on all systems :hmmmm2: Wish he could let me use it longer ...
@ Liteace - the immobiliser light (if any) does not come on at any stage on cluster , maybe there isn't one ? There is no immo light on the rest of the dashboard also , any ideas ?

Could this or did this Intelligent Tester read any live data while cranking ? Have you checked resistance between coil pack and ECU wiring and double checked all earths

Hi Guys
@Ishfaak - VIN & all else checks fine , really puzzling with this one .
@ Liteace - will check tomorrow & post here .
Strange thing is everything was fine until engine was overhauled , i don't understand crank sensor & other parts going faulty . I would think that obviously something was incorrect in re-assembly ? I have had a few guys with Toyota experience & they all agree timing is spot on , fuel supply's ok , just NO SPARK :hmmmm2::hmmmm2::hmmmm2:
OH yes , the security light in this car is a pic of a key with a line thru it , this does not EVER light up with all 3 keys i try .

apart from having crank sensor pattern, does your scanner actually show rpm's while cranking? did you scan/read out immo module already, with what result?

Hi Electronicar
In my post I did ask you is the Engine Management light coming ON when you switch the Ignition to ON position ????.
And you have still not answered that yet :hmmmm2::hmmmm2::hmmmm2:.

Hi Teuton , Engine speed shows up to +/- 320 RPM while cranking , if it reads this what does it mean ?

Hi
This means there are signals coming from your crank sensor.
Are you sure its not immobilised ? have try to read if there are any fault codes in immobiliser system.
Also check fuses behind the instrument, there is a fuse box there have a look for any blown fuses.

Hi Ash
Immo system tests fine , no error codes .The security light definitely has a problem , because if i activate it via T300 or my scanner it does NOT light up . Every fuse checks 100% ok - IN & OUT of circuit .
I have even tried resetting immo & recoding keys with 4D dongle , NO LUCK .
You think maybe if i fix the immo light problem it may start ?

Hi Electronicar
you need techstream to do matching key and immo system
electronicar

Hi All
After resetting immo & recoding keys i used the procedure of bridging pins 4 & 13 of DLC for 30 minutes to sync IMMO to Main ECU , still no spark .
These are LIVE DATA results from my T300 ...
KEY STATUS - ON
IGN STATUS - ON
IMMOBILISER - UNSET
START ENABLE - YES
RESPONSE - NO
FRAME - NO
SER. NO. - NO
ENCRYPT CODE - NO
STATUS - NO
BCC - NO
SUB KEY - NO MATCH
MASTER KEY - MATCH
REG. SUB CODE - 1
REG MASTER CODE - 2
Diagnostic s on immobiliser shows FAULT CODE : U298F which i clear but returns after few attempts at starting . My manual does not list this error code .
Scan results from my cheap Toyota Handheld Scanner says the same thing except this ...
IMMOBILISER STATUS - ABNORMAL
@ Ishfaak , i don't have Techstream or Intelligent Tester but judging from results above can you see a solution to this problem ?
I do not want to strip the ECU Immobiliser until i'm more or less sure where the problem lies .
Thx for all the help guys , hopefully we find a solution before the customer takes the vehicle elsewhere :hmmmm2:

At M-H-M we had one. One the pick up, for the immobox the circuit was labeled
gnd, ign, bat. This one had lost B+ so we ran a wire to it and it started.
Try turning the ignition on with they key out, to cause an immo fault. See if security light comes on.
Also try locking and unlocking the doors.

the first few lines look ok. then seems a little odd.
unplug the ecu and try again with T300
Uxxxx codes is a 'body' code.

check immobilizer carefully you must get immobilizer normal.
I told you that you need techstram to go on engine section then utulity then readf vin or write vin , just only that you have to do and engine will start

Hi Electroniicar , can you dump eproom in ECU and send me ?.
z786
27th October, 2010, 06:39 PM
have you got autoboss? im sure you can write vin with that
electronicar
27th October, 2010, 10:04 PM
@Z786 - don't have bro , but i can get 1 if anyone can only confirm that Autoboss can do it .
BTW , my autodata is outdated & does not have this car's info , i need Service manual & diagrams for 1KR-FE as the old Yaris's wiring is very different to this . Techstream is not an option for me anymore as the guy's a RIP-OFF & customer says he can only pay him IF the car starts by rewriting VIN .
So if Autoboss can do it , please let me know ...

Hi All , many thx for all the help . Unfortunately customer wanted to try someone else & asked me to wait before continuing any work . If the tech is not successful then only will this car comne back to me .
So , thx a lot guys i really learnt a lot on this car even though we were not successful - at least i seen the car moving today - ON A TOWTRUCK ! Thx again :congrats:
