hi....i need some info...maybe it will be usefull for other too...

1.WHAT IS THE INDEX?for exemple in vw,index 06,08,etc
2.is the INDEX related to CODING?
3.can u write for ex index 08 dump in module with 06 index?what happens if u do?
4.how can u change index?or there is different algo for different index....

tnx

1. I don't have answer for this...
2. Index isn't related to software coding.
3. Yes, you can do that, and nothing happens.
4. Index is saved in EEPROM, it can be changed without problem.

and have a question also, changing coding with vcds never succeed at my place. I read on rosstech that is only possible at new units.

Is there not a way by eep or mcu?

When SRS unit is already coded, there is no way to change "software coding" with using diagnostic tools. By changing EEPROM, it is possible without problem...

we still need to know what is the reason for the different levels of indexes. does it make a difference if the index is one higher than the other one. maybe instead of 5 using a 6. thanks.

oke, so if i understand it right, if i change the eprom than from an old unit (dont work anymore) the the second hand unit with same partnumber and same index,

it wil work and than is the 'new' unit useable for the car with old unit.

What happens if you order a new unit, and recode it? what is changing than?

best regards,

johnny

like frikki said.....in most cases we have same tipe of unit but just different indexes....thats what i wanna know...dose it matter for the module(car) if u write different index dump?will it work or will give errors?
mcm44 said that nothing happens....but if you search forum, those who request dumps, specifies to be same index like in their module....

i only know there is a list on the net with index numbers with avaible codings.

I tryed using same index and number with other coding and get dtc. so i think you use same part number with different index will give also dtc.

I wil look later for the list if you want it. Im at work know.

(...) I tryed using same index and number with other coding and get dtc. (...)

It always give you a DTC, because software coding determine actual configuration of unit...
Example:
Unit No. 6Q0 909 605 A
with Soft. Coding: 12338 - Configuration is: 4 airbag, 2 seat betls, 2 side-crash sensors.
and
with Soft. Coding: 12339 - Configuration is: 4 airbags, 2 seat belts, 2 side-crash sensors and passanger airbag switch ON/OFF.

That's why you will get DTC, because SRS unit doesn't match your's car equipment...

This is a good site, and all is good explained, but index described there doesn't relate to index checked on picture below... Those are different things...
