Had a problem with the aircon on my 2006 Vectra 1.9CDTI, garage told me the compressor was gone, I checked my self and there was 12v going to the comp when the button was pressed but the clutch didnt pull in.

Long story short got a second hand compresser and after fitting now dont get any 12v feed when the button is pressed, so now looks like an electrical fault my mechanic friend explaned.

It is a bit odd how the power was there when the comp was duff, and now it's replaced it isnt :bawling:

The garage had regased it and thought maybe there was a thermal switch or something that needed resseting, I never took it back as it was then winter but now the weather is turning need to sort it out, any one have any pointers that I can check myself before I have to book it in?

Have you not plugged in and looked at live data or scanned for any fault codes

yep done a scan with opcom but nothing related to aircon at all, I turn on the aircon switch and it lights up but no power gets through to the compressor to activate the clutch.

Any aircon guys out there?

Hi

Are you sure it was refilled with enough gas :questionmark:.....Can see in live data for gas readings how much does it read.

lol could well be, the machine they used to fill it up looked a bit antiquated, I will have a mooch about in the morning see if I can figure out how get the live data.

Thanks for the info

yep, opcom shows gas pressure in live data blocks. remember its relative to the ambient temp.
think you may also be able to activate the compressor clutch via opcom to check operation.

let us know the findings

the clutches on the front of these fail pretty often and can be replaced without taking compressor off. when the fail the can blow fuses, so check the basics

Hi Guys,

Might need a bit of help here on what to look for :)

I have had a mooch about with OP-Com and found some aircon info ina couple of places, first one was from the CIM option looks like I have 480Kpa and also 0.7v pressure for the aircon, I couldnt see an option to operate the clutch but then may have been in the wrong menu.

There are some options for electronic air con and auto I think but it doesnt find a module fot those.

Any one have any details what menus I should be looking at?

Thanks

ac pressure should be in engine measure blocks

activation maybe in engine/cim or underhood control module

hope this helps

if at first you had +12v pressed the button inside and then after replaced the compressor not......look the fuses first probably you burned it.....then if they are good check the refrigerant quantity-prassure......!an other way if you want to check the compressor if is good with ok quantity of gas...take the wires of the comressor and give + / - to the battery(brown wire to negative)..put and your barometers to see the pressure to high and low pressure of the system..........if quantity gas is ok and compressor ok you must have 2-4 bars to low pressure and 10-15 bars to high pressure(depends of the outside temperature)................if these works ok then the fault is to the electrical system

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies.

I have checked all the fuses in the car and none are blown, I put 12v to the compressor and the clutch works.

I cannot find any option to turn the clutch on within opcom, here are some screen shots of the output tests.

Interesting one is the one that says AC compressor not available.

DID YOU CHECK THE PRESSURE OF THE GAS AND THE QUANTITY????????

I am not an air con guy or mechanic, I dont have any equipment to check the pressure or quantity other than opcom, as I said at the start the garage regassed the system and also checked for leaks, none were found and they have told me the pressure is correct and the faullt is within the electrical system.

Any thoughts on if the opcom readings look ok before I am forced to book it into a garage?

Im no expert on this, infact I know ~~~~ all BUT it looks to me like the A\C control module does not know that the compressor is there, maybe it needs programing

Have a look at fuse 12, measure voltage between input contact and earth, is there +12 there? What color wire is the feed to the A\C clutch & did you disconnect the plug to the clutch when you put the +12 feed to it ?

according to the TIS, for A\C information switch "not programed" it gives this:

Hi m8,

I will measure the voltage as you said when I get back later on, let you know if I have anything there. I used a separate 12v supply straight into the connector on the pump to test before, so disconnected the connector from the car supply and connected straight in.

The color from memory was white & brown/white I think, will need to check.

In your last post you put it gives this: ?

Looks like some of that post went missing, could do with plugging my opcom into a working vectra c of the same model to compare, could be not programmed anymore as you say.

Right I checked fuse F12 under the bonnet and there is 12v, but I have 12v even if I turn the aircon switch off, double checked the fuse and it's not blown, I think one of the relays in the same fuse box is for the aircon, you think this could be at fault?

Have a look and see if you can open this:

Hi,

Thanks for that, I can see it now, looks a bit drastic, not sure if I would want to reset it with my dodgy copy of op-com :)

I have also had a bit of bother with the cruise control sometimes not working, so could well be the cim or something, might be better to pull my pants down and take it to Vx :banghead:

Booked it into the local aircon/electrical garage they fixed it, was a corroded wire and burnt plug, they also regased so that added to the bill.

Cost me ?120 in the end.
