just from my own experience, but may not be everybodys choice....I prefer to locate satellite manually, having somebody watch the sat meter on the satellite box itself and adjust the dish to get the highest signal

I've got the 6906 which is basically a satellite receiver and TV combined.
It has enough power to move the dish using diseqc 1.2 and gives an excellent picture of the channel you have selected. I think the 6908 is a bit more sophisticated than then 6906, however bearing in mind its portability, it makes setting up your dish on the spot a one man operation.:manuflag:

i've also got the 6906 and think its a good piece of kit, very easy to use for basics.

Hi
I need some help as I'm a complete novice. I'm a caravaner and have bought a Satlink WS-6908 to help me get a Free sat signal using my portable dish. Whilst the instructions tell we about the functions, it does not explain the steps I have to follow to get a signal and I don't know how to go about it once I have got it connected to the dish. Any help would be appreciated.

if the menu is the same as the 6906 this is the easiest way.
connect the meter to a dish at home that points to 28.2 east( a sky dish will do) go to menu>add channels>ok and scroll to astra2 28.2 on the satellite line then drop to the 2nd line(TP) and scroll til 11.954 H 27500 appears in the tp frequency, symbol rate,polarity.lines.then drop to the search line"free">ok.this will scan BBC news, alba, parl channels in.
then when you get to your camp site connect the dish up to the meter and after switching the meter on press the sat button make sure 28.2E is on top line press ok and highlight bbc news press ok then info on the handset and the signal meter will show its just a matter of adjusting the dish til you get max signal and the picture shows then>exit, job done.

just to add 10.773H 22000 is another good TP to try if you cant find them in the data base(you should) you can add them in the add channel menu just scroll to "add tp"you have to press ok after adding each parameter before you can scroll to the next.

I bought one, and thought it was rubbish. The response was terrible. I put a cheap sat finder in series with it, and it showed how bad it was. I tried it on a twin LNB with the already aligned motorised dish, and compared it the box. It even showed 40 precent when I moved the dish off, and the box showed no signal. I sent it back to china, which cost ?15, but I got my money back. I have now a FS1 meter and the response is brilliant. Setup a motorised dish within 15 mins.

I just received my 6906 and found it to be conveneint but not the most sensitive. I do like the fact you don't need a tv or receiver to suse it. It is portable. One think which is a drawback. You don't know which satellite you are on. Even though you set up the dish you are trying to aim, you may be on the wrong one and not now it. There is no display saying what dish you are pointing at. You have to go back to the tv in the house, and read the install screen of your home sat receiver. They usually tell you what you are on. But once you know, you can read from a chart how many degrees of you are in azimuth and elevation, make the adjustments and boom you should be able to find your bird. Hope in the updates, which I hear are hard to find, that they will tell you on screen which dish you have.

We got some of these cheap meters from China in to test a while back, they looked very handy, however- when we tested them against pro meters they weren't calibrated properly so in certain situations they'd show a lower quality reading for what was a better reading on a pro meter like a Rover, 'something' was getting overloaded in them... you could partly correct it with an in line attenuator but that didn't prove too reliable- not easy to know what dB to drop. Not sure if all the chip sets are the same - they look like someone's shrunk the old Silvercrest/ Comag receivers circuits-not a bad idea if they'd calibrated them properly & added some better measures, but not unreliable readings.
The tv screens are handy though - very visible in sunlight plus some software have got disecq 1.2 goto reference/ zero & step 1.. works well if you are setting up diseqc 1.2/ 36v etc.

Guys,
I have the 6908 and initially it was great. Default to 28.2, move the dish and Walla. However, something strange has taken place. Linking to a set dish on 28.2 the WS shows no signal or quality. Select 23.whatever and it is wall to wall but actually tuned into 28.2. How strange is that. My real question is, how do I update it via a computer. I have the disc with tools etc thereon but do not have a RAW translater on my computer. I am quite slow at computer knowledge but think a RAW file is a compressed file. What do I have to do to open the tools on the disc and update my 6908? Does anyone know why it has decided to identify 28 when using the 23 sat. Bottom line is I have a motor home and have the device to tune the dish. I can still do that using 23 but it would be much easier using what I need, ie 28.2 for Astra 1N
Your comments to a newby would be appreciated.

I have just bought a satlink 6908 and despite the instructions that came with it I aint got a clue as to how to get it to work. I have tried following some instructions on youtube but to no avail. I have Sky all working and I have installed a second dish to feed a freesat receiver in the spare room. All I want to do is align the second dish properly to get a signal. Can some of you more experienced members explain in simple terms what I need to do with the 6908 to get the job done.
Thanks in advance, and apologies if this has been covered elsewhere on the forum.
Cheers

I have to agree with you this is a piece of junk You can't program it correctly You got to the site for help and the company wants your complete life history. I would stay from this junker if I were you I am still trying to get my money back but the dealer refuses to comply.
