Hi,
I've this client who owns a A4 10/2004 and he losts all the keys.
I managed to program a new key. Everything went ok.
But he wants a new remote. I tried to program two kinds:
- a new one marked 1J0 959 753 B
- a used one marked 8Z0 837 231 D
Both are tested and working 434mhz.
As far as I know there won't be any problem to program used remotes to this Audi A4. Also I think the new one it's for A4 till 2001 and the used one for A4 till 2004/2005, which is the case.
I used VAG-COM, but without any sucess.
Can someone point me to an idea about what's hapenning?
Wrong part number? I never understood what's the meaning of the last digit (letter) of the part number. And as far as I know there are several part numbers matching the same first 9 digits, but different ending letter. Is this the problem?
I also know that some Audi remotes work at 315mhz. Both ones I have work at 434. I don't know wich version of remote, either 315 or 434, this A4 used to work with.
I attach a log of VAG-COM, in case it might help.
Thanks for any idea,
PM.

Your A4 works at 434 Mhz.
Try to do this procedure:
Press any button on remote control.
If vehicle does not respond by locking or unlocking:
Lock and unlock vehicle within 30 seconds using driver-side lock with the door closed.
Open the door and insert the key in the ignition turning it to the On position.
Remove the key from the ignition.
Press any button on remote control.
Now check function of synchronized remote control.
If these instructions don't work I think you need another kind of remote. The 1J0 you have is for VW new beetle 99-01, and 8J0 is for Audi TT from 2007, so these remotes may be not compatibles with Audi a4.
The correct remote for this A4 is 8z0 837 231.
Regards.

Many thanks for your answer.
I typed 8J0 wrong. I meant 8Z0. I've already edited my previous post.
So as I thought I've the correct remote. Except perhaps for the final letter - D. Do you know what this letter means? As I find same part nrs, but ending on C, for instance.
I think I've already tried the programming sequence you mentioned. I've tried "n" ways...
Anyway, as soon as I've the car again I'll also try again and report.
Today, I've also borrowed (from a friend) another remote: 4D0 837 232 N (also 434) that I'll try.
It's weird, because I also think that the right one would be the used one I have. And I thought I would be easy...
But, in fact, "reading" the emission of these 3, with my remote duplicator equipment, they are all different.
Kindest regards,
PM.

For the Central Conv module that you have ( address 46) - 8E0 959 433 AS will work only with PR-5D1 remotes and this means: 8Z0 837 231 (for VIN >> 8E-100000 ) and 8Z0 837 231 D ( for VIN after 8E-100001 ) . But, as they have the same protocol ( PR-5D1), both should work.
If you followed the adaption from: Audi A4 (8E) Comfort System - Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Audi_A4_%288E%29_Comfort_System) , probably the remote that you have isn`t working.

Coding in the remote is easy, coding in the immo is a pain in the arse. Im not sure if it can be done with vagcom? could be wrong though!

Hi,
Nice mod my friend. I didn't imagined that was possible.
You switched the interior (the remote itself) to the new fob? Or it's a complete new remote?
Programming the key it's easy, if you have the car pin and the right tranponder: ID48 VAG crypto.
And, yes, it can be done with VAGCOM. Test by myself.
