Thanks Jim. I downloaded and ran that. All seemed well in that it claimed to have finished OK but when I redo DCUNLOCKER enquiry firmware still shows as 666.11.81 etc. Not sure what happened - do I need to have done something to modem pre update?

OK - done some more reading and answered my own question. Obviously the update worked 'cause I can now access modem settings via wifi. The unlock software I have still reports 0 of 10 attempts available though so presume I really am scuppered now?

On flashing:

1. Remove modem for PC connection.
2. Press and hold Mobile Dial Key and then press Power Switch button for 5 second until red signal LED and yellow battery LED are lit.
3. Now connect to your PC and run upgrade software.
4. Wait for process to fully complete.


OK, now try a factory reset:

Note down any important setting if needs be...

Press and hold Wi-Fi/WPS buttons for 5 seconds. The unit will go through a full factory reset.

Now try to read the EFS again.

I'm going to ignore the tries counter for now as this 'may' be a red herring...

Are you saying that I need to re-flash and the fact that I can now do web access doesn't necessarily mean that the flash worked?
Will DC unlocker still report old firmware version or should it report it as 716.11.17 etc?

The firmware should be reported as the new 716 version... When flashing the modem will make this obvious with LED blinking at least!!

If you have not gone into flash mode, you may have only partly reset the modem!!

Very odd that 23064162 worked as it should be prefixed 01 01 in hex. I saw it in the original file but I'm loathed to get people to try codes as some devices have as few a three attempts before the games up!

I rather think that you had 'crippled' firmware that is so often used by the networks nowadays! I'm guessing that was causing most of the oddities.

It could be that settings set via the USB (Mobile Partner) interface are stored in NVR but anything set via the http interface is not...

I'm told this may work:

1. Disconnect modem from the USB port, remove the battery and put it back without pressing any buttons.

2. Then press the Connect button and keep it pressed then press the Power button and keep it pressed too.

3. With the two buttons pressed, count from 0 to 5. When at 5, release both buttons and immediately after, hit the connect button once.

4. Then connect the USB port to your computer.

5. Flash correct firmware.

Post the results...

It seems I can't get qmat to work.
Tried many things and didn't receive nothing after sending the 00 command.
I'm also receiving the message "phone does not respond.maybe another software is blocking the port."
Myu imei starts with 3541030....
I read elsewhere the there are problems getting the info from devices with the imei in this range.
Can anybody help?

Have you installed Huawei drivers before connecting to the USB port?

Also ensure ALL other dashboard and 'helper' files are shut down or else the COM port will be in use! Look in Windows task manager.

Also use ideally under Windows XP, not Windows 7 and certainly never Windows Vista!!

Hi, It is the Huawei E5832s.
I have tried the QMAT program with no sim card and the Rev Skills program with a different sim which shown invalid sim as it is locked out.
I followed the guide and even went as far as disabling all start-up items in msconfig to see if something was interfering with the process.
The only dashboard software is the shortcut loaded by the device which loads the device page in a browser window.

I have noticed now that the device freezes/locks up when I use QMAT

I eventually relented and installed the generic netvigator firmware from the dc unlocker site and then tried again and after a bit of fiddling around with QMAT where I switched the Vendor around from generic to Huawei and I got the code after a few attempts(first one on list).

Baud rate was set to lowest rate 9600

The command box showed "FA27" in it instead of just "27" which was there in previous failed attempts, but this did not change to FA27 until I first changed the vendor to one of the generic then picked the read efs then switched vendor to huawei.

Thank you very much! But can you check the link you provided to download the dashboard. Because i think it is wrong dashboard installer. Because it is not for flashing the modem, just installing the mobile partner wifi. I am in maintenance mode but what ever exe file i click it just install mpwifi but do not flash e dashboard. Hello again, sorry to disturb you again, but i followed the steps from unlocking the modem, it is unlock now thanks to you and i also already flashed it with the firmware that you have provided with the link in the thread, the only thing left is to flash the dashboard. With the generic mpartner. Do you know any other dashboard which is self executable to flash the original dashboard because with the link you provided it does not work to flash the modem. Hello just to post the results, the program do not detect my modem, Is there anyway i can change my dashboard? What about the update mode " press connect then after power in 5 secs then release button" What is that for? THE screen of the modem says "UPDATE??" what is that for? Thanks a lot for the help!!!!

The update screen is for flashing firmware and dashboard upgrades to your device.

If you have not seen this before, how did you flash new firmware?

My guess is that you still have branded firmware on your device and THIS is the reason that you can't update your APN etc!!

Corrupt ZIP file!

Your ZIP files should be around 30 in size and between 700 and 780K before being Zipped up!

Worked fine on Orange UK E5830C

Needed to have another networks sim in and E5830C showing invalid sim as otherwise i couldn't conect to it..

Then once drivers loaded and connected via usb, extracted the EFS file

Used ExtractText to list several possible numbers

Then used Notepad++ along with its Hex Editor plugin to search for each number string and looked for two sets of Hex 01 before it.

Found it was the first number in the list.

browsed to 192.168.1.1 via the wifi and entered the code in the simlock page and success unlocked at first attempt.

This EFS is way to small... It needs to be between 700 and 780K in size before you Zip/RAR it...

Orange firmware does not make a difference, dozens of Orange modems have been unlocked via this method without any fuss.

Usually Windows XP is the most stable for producing the right EFS file. Windows Vista is a no-no! Windows 7 usually locks up!

Windows 7 will always fall over reading the EFS.

You should be able to enter the unlock code via the web interface on the device... Just type 196.168.1.1 into your browser with the unit switched but with a non-Orange card fitted.

But don't keep trying wrong codes or the device will hard-lock!

They charge around 4 Euro per code.

To those who have Win7 and getting files larger than what people are saying here should be the maximum:

I am using Win7, followed all the steps as set out in the first page, got a file sized 1.5 meg, applied the Extract Text tool and still got my number (it was the bottom-most one). Unlocked my modem first go. Just wanted to post that because there seems to be a little bit of confusion with the resulting file sizes.

If these are correct you'll need to JTAG or find a box that can repair via USB. But I doubt you'll find one.

Check your EFS file it will be an 8 digit number prefixed 01 01 in hex. The full procedure is given in the 1st post in this very thread!

Yes and some Idea modems have 'doctored firmware'' and may need flashing first.

I don't know what the 'Hotshot' is, I assume Huawei?

Any way, failure is almost guaranteed with Windows 7 or Vista. Try Windows XP 32 bit...

This is a bit lengthy but it should produce your E5830, E5832 or E5838 unlock code for free! Always REMOVE the SIM card before doing the read or you may get an corrupt file! Instructions: Download this version of QMAT. Digital Kaos - Downloads - QMAT (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/other/8/qmat-1730/) Select the Application port of the E583x. Check in Windows Device Manager if unsure. To test if you got the right port, send the "00" version command. You should see something like this: Then select: Read EFS and flag "Alternative Method". Click "Let's go". http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=71901&stc=1&d=1310995419 The resultant file contains both Binary and ASCII characters. You will need to search for this for your 8 digit unlock code. There will be two codes in the file one is for removing the SIM lock and the other removes the Mi-Fi lock. You can use Notepad to search the file, its crude but you should find the code in a few minutes. I have tried a program called ExtractText: Windows 95+ programs (http://tp.lc.ehu.es/jma/win95.html) The results are hit and miss with this program, sometimes the code is on the last line sometimes it is at the top of the list! However, it might give you a good idea of what you're looking for! To cut down on unnecessary searching using Extract Text go to Options and then Text Options and set the parameters to: Minimum Character 7 and maximum characters 8 plus you should have only Numbers selected: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=71886&stc=1&d=1310993764 One thing to keep in mind, the unlock code will appear only once so you can ignore repeated codes. just something I have found in the last few day
I have unlocked a huawei E583c and a E5380

to find the unlock code in the log files keep max page in settings at 4000 on qmat or psas
also look where page setters are (blue bars up/down and accross) to see where the code is in notepad

the unlock code in screen shots of logs is 12121212

Try with Windows XP as QMAT hangs with Windows 7...

The program works, but i cant find the device in the meny... can find 3 x \\.\com-port (file://\\.\com-port) (1,2,3) , 3x usb , and 2 other ports.. the device is a mass storage according to windos if i remeber right.

The mass storage device is the memory card slot, not the actual modem. The program is not compatible with windows 7, the drivers are not compatible. You have to run it on XP for the drivers to work correctly.

Are you sure this isn't a E5332? Any way, if it's post 2012 then you can't read the codes...

I have used these people who charge ?3.99 per code.

Just make sure that when you pop in the wrong SIM that it actually asks you for the unlock code.

If it does, then go to Huawei Unlock by IMEI (http://huawei.site90.com/) and fill in the model number and IMEI.

They do the codes manually but it is usually within 12 hours or so.

Unlocking and flashing E 5832 S with a firmware that let me change APN:

1. I used QCMobile****ysisToolV5.06 for reading EFS
2. I found the unlock code with ExtractText, form me was the first code from the column
3. I could't enter the code using CardLock_Unlock because didn't detect my modem.
4. I decided to enter the code using the web interface. WORKED PERFECTLY.
5. I flashed my device with this firmware WLE5832S3095001_ALL_VERSION_V100R001C365B311_USB
