how to: vlc player to dreambox

hi guys,

setting up vlc player and dreambox can sometimes be tricky,with these simple tips you should overcome any difficulties.

im using dm800 hd
gemini 5.1 ssl 82

vlc player on my pc is 0.9.6 version older/newer versions for windows can be found here

install vlc player on your pc select custom install and select all boxes and close program for now.

now lets install vlc client plugin on dreambox
vlc client (dreambox plugin) is provided in rar below, download,extract and send IPK file to tmp folder using dcc e2,find the tmp folder on using dreambox and install ipk and reboot,vlc will now be in plugins

or simply use ts panel or tunisiasat this may be easier for newbies not familiar with manual ftp set up

set up the vlc plugin on your dreambox
press green button
select vlc
press green button (add server)
server address: pc ip address
movie directory :change to folder on your pc where your movies are kept Example c:/movies
press ok
press blue button (set default)

now open vlc player on your pc/laptop
select tools
preferences
input/codecs
change server default port to 8080
save and close

select tools
select web interface ( you should always select web interface first before using the dreambox vlc plugin)this will stop crash log green screen on gemini image

you should be now set up.

select green button
select vlc
you should now see movie folder on pc
use the ok button on remote to select files
dont use blue button (play video)

* you will need to select web interface everytime you start vlc on your pc/laptop before using vlc plugin on dreambox

*you control the movie fast foward rewind pause etc via the controls on your vlc control panel on the pc/laptop and not on the dreambox remote

have managed to record from my dm to my nas hard drive, and then watch what is recorded on my nas via my dm.
my question is, am i able to watch films i have d/l on my nas drive ( avi format) via the dm vlc player, have tried doing what trent1579 says, but having no joy.
the image i am currently using is a nabilosat blackhole v 0.12.
can play the films via my pc from the nas, but i wanted to eliminate turning my pc on, and use the dm instead.

any help will be appreciated

Let's see if I've got this right.
These instructions are to set up VLC on your PC to serve video files from a directory (folder) so that a VLC client on your DM can view them?

Isn't it just easier to make your PC directory sharable and then use the Media Player on the DM to navigate that shared directory and play whatever you want. :confused:

you require vlc plugin on your dreambox and vlc installed on your pc/laptop

the method is tested on gemini 5.1,i do not know if it works on edg,nabliosat,cvs,sifteam etc as all images slightly differ in functionality

im trying to setup vlc player.i have it in plugins on dreambox 800HD with Enigma2 Blackhole image but when i follow this
and when i go back into plugins and press on vlc on dreambox it continually tries to open vlc but does not and i have to pull plug on DB as DB crashes and no control button will work untill i pull the power.seems like its trying to connect when i press on vlc but just loops untill i pull the power switch
any idea how i can get vlc to work so i can view movies from my pc

i can't find it when i search for new plugins on my dreambox

regarding set up the vlc plugin on your dreambox i got as far as{ movie directory :change to folder on your pc where your movies are kept Example c:/movies} finding it impossible to do this with remote control is there another way to do it

Hi tried this software does everything very easy to set up licence is about ?5. Streams dreambox plays recorded programs from hdd must say I am quite impressed.:proud:

Its uses vlc player in the background and will also act a server if you have an iphone its a bit like airvideo.

Hi All,

On my VU+ Uno all I do is, Load Uno's IP Address
Press enter, Pc connects to Uno then the virtual
remote page opens (OpenWebif, Image Openvix).
Chose channel Click open, minimize picture. stick
it in the pc monitors corner.
It will also move dish from sat to sat.
can use VCL any were in the world with laptop to
view any channel on Uno. (If Uno is in Standby)
No need to load VLC into Uno, just install on PC.

I have a DM500S, image is Commando V14.6, connected to my router using a Wifi Bridge and have been trying for ages to try and watch the box on my PC (using VISTA) but no matter what guide I use I just can't get it to work.
Does the software from the above link actually work?
