dashboard has complete power failure

any idea what i can do to make it work?

If eprom dump is corupt you will have this situation try to put another dump I have this before after somebody changed km

I have a W211 cluster (white color), when connect to car gives nothing, not even LCD light, but connect on table it shows everything.

I had a 2001 c class last week guy had tried programing and lost power half way through i got a second hand cluster and flashed mileage put it in and was expecting mileage to show then show dashes but mileage stayed so must stop dash looking at ezs for miles and chassis no.

i asked body shop and they say no1 jumped the car

Could be but you will have to edit chassis no or put good dump in then flash new mileage.

Hi guy I have had this fault dump did not fix it got second hand cluster and used eeprom for old dash with the original dump in it and the new dash worked perfect never bothered looking at old one any further but I do have a couple of spare dashes if you need one let me know and I will send you one cheers

I had this eror after somebody flashed cluster via obd,I changed first dump what I found and everything works normal without adaptions with star

Between 0x1EC to 0x20F there is data in your dump.
Also at address 0x3C0 to 0x3D0 there is data aswell.
Other working dumps dont seem to have this mate

This dash will light a second (middle display will turn red) even without an eeprom. So it's not a file issue. I fixed one two years ago. Mine had a power supply and capacitor problem. I will try to find my notes on that. There are not many capacitors there; start by changing them (the electrolytic ones - gray silver cylinder type). If you power up on the bench, know that the 12v is not on pin 4 but 5 for this one and ground on pin 1.

Yeah - noticed - as normal you call when either surranded by 100's of peasants - or when *JUST* downloaded into the bath.

Can this problem drain the battery ?

Dash illumination one time little bit flashing. But it hard to see.

Mosfet's simple test passed. Sould i replace VOGT, mosfet's, and capacitors ?

I also have a w211 cluster that works perfect until it goes into sleep mode, it will never power back up until you remove the battery supply and reconnect. it does the same on the bench.

I don't known if w211 have lamps pre-heating. On pcb there is lamps you have alot big smd resistors

W211 dash has no normal light bulbs only LED and a lighting faceplate.
In the mean time I found that it must be in the board from the clock motor driver or the high voltage supply.
If I remove this board the dash works without illumination of course but the high current is gone with key off.
Monday i receive a dash from a donor car see if i can find exactly where the fault is.

I already solved this problem (dead cluster from Mercedes W211).
I opened the cluster and start checking Vcc and GND from components.
Then I realised that 5 Volts were missing in some IC?s. That?s why cluster was dead.

But I could not find which component was faulty. Then I heated every component of PCB with Hot Air and after this operation cluster was OK.
It was a bad solder point and heating up with Hot Air solved it.

well folks ..tomorov I will have w211 with completly dead dash in workshop..so I search all treads related to this problems to make my homework..but here I yust see lot of confusion 211 and S class are completly diferent..S class is some way neon lights..211 is led..myne dash is completly dead..nothing work on it..so I will continue to search... pinout first..

SOLVED !!!

easy to open easy to dismantle...search for known components..I found uln 2003 and 24c16 so check suply for this circuits...5 V for 24c and 12 for ULN..so conclusion uper board with conector is probably fine..so go further..lower board is board with displays..remove plastic part what hold uper board..close to the speedo meter will be transformer..check soldering and solder it fine all 8 or more pins...still dont work...in corners of this lower board with spedo is some pcf chips..solder them tooo...voila all work...sory I wasnt smart enought to take few picture..but next time I will..for any aditional question ask youre local water suply:beer:

you mean conected on work table...dont see reason why not..pull down schematic and make spider web on table conect to diag and it should work...
youre dash is LED or older style neon?

I am not able to Diag with the pinout:

PIN 1 GND
PIN4 12V
PIN6 12V
PIN 17 / 18 CAN BUS (TO PIN 14/6 OF OBD SOCKET) (FOUND IN ABRITES MANUAL)
AUTODATA .... PIN 13,14 CAN BUS , BUT DONT WORK ALSO


So I am able to power up perfect the dashboard , but cant make Diag and foundsome way to turn on backligth without having the car.

so you have backlight for lcd ? ..for pointers there is another transformer..sory cant remember whole picture..but dont be a pusy:smile: open it and explore a litle..pay atention two transformers..they overheat pcb so resolder all that points and with litle luck you are good to go

IF you have schematic...is there any wire for backlight marked as 58 or similar..(grey with blue or grey....)goes from light switch ? or all info is straight via CAN



Golfmkl --- today another one w211 dead dash...so i litle explore who **** who on this dash..
this one have problem with proc...none of soldering help dash dead..but litle heating on proc and dash is alive..for youre problem with backup lighting-search small relay on second board with displays..close to this relay is small smd trans..check this litle ****er..he must engage relay and you will have backlight....customer start to be nervous so I take my money and run..next time will explore more

I am checking other w211 dashboard....problem as always dont power up.

Dont seem soldering issue, checked all capacitors.
On primary pcb I have 5v in 24c16 eeprom, 12 in uln2003a........I would like to KNow pinout to Mcu to check its feed, but could not identify it properly .

I am thinking Elcos could be broken...I upload a picture. Capacitor Nearby could not be charged properly, and I think this is the problem of this dashboard.

I have not many info about this, have any of you replaced one of these?? Dashboard is totally dead.

It is mounted in the mini-pcb of clock. Rare thing, above someone said dashboard could work without this pcb mounted ( only ligths dont work).

Is this Elcos needed to power up dashboard, or only is needed for illumination????

If Elcos is only for illumination...I dont Know what a hell could happen this dashboard.......

mmmm...I have not checked eeprom....could be corrupted??? I dont think so...

Good day to all, I have a W211.20 E280 2007 with 80K miles. Random the cluster have like an auto reset, all switch off including speed and miles for a second and then all lamps on and the clock reset.
