View Full Version : Free Blackberry Unlocking Tool

6th January, 2012, 08:55 AM
This free tool supports a limited range of MEP's but many of you will still find it useful. If this tool does not support your phone (i.e. MEP not found) then you'll need to post a request in the Blackberry unlock code section once it is up and running again!

Note: Unless you have at least one valid forum post you can not download the file!

If you already have your MEP and IMEI then jump to Step 8/9 and enter the IMEI manually and select the MEP from the drop down menu.

1. Install Blackberry Desktop manager. If you don't have it visit: Cell Phones, Smartphones & Mobile Phones from BlackBerry.com (http://www.blackberry.com) you'll find it there!

2. Download the unlocker: Digital Kaos - Downloads - BlackBerry Unlocker (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/pc/9/blackberry-unlocker-1965/)

2a. Newer version can be found here: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f53/free-blackberry-unlocking-tool-248342/index2.html#post1499582 no password for this version!! <<<--- NEW <<<---

3. Un-RAR the file using the Password: fromdigitalkaos

4. Just copy the files into a directory (folder) of your choice.

5. Run the program BlackBerryTools_2.exe

http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=96678&stc=1&d=1325834591

6. Connect handset, wait for drivers to load and then click MEP Reader (1).

7. Then click on MEPReader button (2).

http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=96679&stc=1&d=1325834784

8. Now click on Blackberry Tab (3). Check MEP and IMEI are correct - If not enter the correct details.

9. Then click on Calculate (4).

http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=96680&stc=1&d=1325834906

http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=96681&stc=1&d=1325834975

10. To find out how to enter your code click on MEP Reader Tab (5) and then on HOW TO button (6).

http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=96682&stc=1&d=1325835144

11. Follow the instructions given for your handset.

Please do not attempt to post comments in this thread as it should be self-explanatory. If you can not follow these instructions the do not use the software.

unlocking is for the networks as you say, not like jail breaking unlocking restores to factory unlock state so does not void warranty etc. it has nothing to do with apps etc

Once I unlock, can I use a samsung SCH-R351 (CDMA) virgin mobile blackberry on virgin mobile USA?

I'm confused, what are you using... the samsung or the blackberry?

You do know that the samsung isn't a blackberry.

The R351 is listed on the US samsung site so I would guess that it will work once unlocked.

A blackberry will work in the US once it's unlocked.

I assume that you have signal, can make phone calls but have no internet access?

Unless you have a BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) subscription then on may BlackBerry devices you'll only be able to make calls and and SMS and not much else!!

I think almost all networks on pre-pay offer pre-pay BlackBerry subscriptions...

If you 'found' the phone then it could also be 'blacklisted' as lost or stolen, in which case you now just have a camera!

MR C

Jim.Mahoney

There is no way around this apart from changing the IMEI which in the UK and most other countries is illegal...

Hey Ray,

You ever think people may be concerned with bricking their Blackberry perhaps that's why they are asking questions. I noticed you enjoy being abrasive and shutting people down. Just telling everyone to try it and shut up seems uncalled for. BTW, Im not asking a question just posting my comment :)

:cobblers::cobblers::cobblers::cobblers:

If you had looked at the software you would realise that it can not brick a phone and you would not have posted such a naff comment!

My first post detailing this program said quite clearly don't ask questions because if you need to ask questions, then it is obvious that the user should ask someone else to do the task!

Please do not attempt to post comments in this thread as it should be self-explanatory. If you can not follow these instructions then do not use the software.
So before posting such drivel may be you should read through the thread first??

BTW, I'm only posting the bloody obvious!

Yes I'm sure it is BUT you don't usually get a jail term for downloading a DVD. Change an IMEI and you will - 5 Years in the UK!

Even just asking to 'unblock' or change an IMEI is illegal...

First of all, yes sir it is not a true blackberry. Just the SCH-R351. I love this phone, and have purchased the unlock code. It is locked to virgin mobile canada, and is CDMA. Called up virgin mobile US several times, and said they cannot find the phone. I assume it is because it is not on the sprint network US. Once I unlock, I hope it shows 'sprint'. Only worry I have is if virgin mobile has some sort of database with all IMEI's from USA in it. If it just has to be online, should work, unless you know different about CDMA. Worse come to worse, I would need to reflash the firmware somehow, to run on the sprint network. How do I enter the unlock code on this damn thing? Unlike GSM phones, it has no sim card

cant get either program to connect to blackberry torch 9810 to list the mep.

This applies to both of you...

Check the display on the phone and ensure that it doesn't go into mass memory mode. Select 'Sync Media' and not USB Drive or Charge Only! The description varies between firmware versions, these names are for OS6 but earlier versions should still be quite obvious.

You must have Blackberry drivers loaded, loading Blackberry Desktop Manager to your PC will take care of the drivers!

Check that Blackberry Desktop Manager doesn't automatically start when you plug the USB cable in... This will stop any other programs from accessing the device!

I have just tried the program again under Windows 7 and Windows XP both are working fine! If your using Windows Vista you'll need a full bottle of Gin before you start! :)

If you still get no joy, start looking at your phones settings and temporarily disable the memory card if necessary via Options. Simply taking the memory card out has no effect, so ensure that you disable via the phones settings!

My Version! - GSM-Forum (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f489/blackberry-codes-reader-calculator-my-version-1410901/) << and it worked. You do not need the mep code or cables, you just need the prp code and imei no.

Thought i would try and make things a little easier....

This programme can also be used with PRD code, if you dont want to spend time getting the MEP code (with some blackberrys only MEP unlocking will do). >>>>BBCalculator_free.rar - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download (http://www.4shared.com/rar/xVqaT-bv/BBCalculator_free.html)

You can read and use the mep code without any cables>>>

How to read the MEP without Cable

First step is to access to the ***8220;Help Me***8221; menu, to do so, on the main screen of the phone hold the following keys : ALT CAPS H (at the same time)

Note: For Pearl and other Sure-type phones press and hold the ALT key (Bottom left) and type E A C E, for Storm, hold the BACK arrow, and tap the screen in the following areas: TOP LEFT, TOP RIGHT, TOP LEFT, TOP RIGHT.

http://blog.unlockbase.com/wp-content/step1.jpg

Type the PIN, App Version and Uptime in the form below:
click this for key generator>>>How to read BlackBerry MEP without Cable ! (http://blog.unlockbase.com/?p=426#)

http://blog.unlockbase.com/wp-content/blackberry-escreen-keygen.jpg

Press ***8220;Get my Key***8221; and our Calculator will generate a code:

http://blog.unlockbase.com/wp-content/key-result.jpg

Now simply type the KEY directly on to that screen. Nothing will appear when typing. For numbers hold the ALT key when typing. Now you should be in the engineers menu - if you are not please try again ensuring the data you entered is EXACTLY as displayed. If you close the screen ensure you change the Uptime on the form. Navigate to ***8216;OS Engineering Screens***8216; as shown below:
http://blog.unlockbase.com/wp-content/step6.jpg

Now scroll down to ***8216;Device Info***8217; and then scroll down until you see MEP-XXXXX-XXX***8217; as shown below:

http://blog.unlockbase.com/wp-content/step9.jpg

then you get your mep....

then use >>>>> BBCalculator_free.rar - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download (http://www.4shared.com/rar/xVqaT-bv/BBCalculator_free.html)

The above programme can also be used to unlock Blackberry using PRD code, which can be found at the back of your phone behind the battery.

Thanks to Jim Mahoney for the original post and continued support.

all mine get done by prd i have the mep for every prd in use.

if you have to pull the mep its always best to use the cable as some new medels like 9900 do not have the mep on show via os engineering. and before anyone says anything. all blackberrys will show via cable. if not you're doing it wrong.

Put a SIM card in it (the same network as what you take out) & see if you can make calls.

If you can call out it's not blocked.

Have just done this on my Orange Blackberry 9700 Bold
BTW the instruction where you enter the MEP bit, should be like this
A: enter MEPD
B: then enter MEP2 (this will give you the unlock code prompt)

That's it (BTW the 2nd unlock code worked for me)

still doesn't do nothing, i have data wiped the mobile to make sure there wasn't anything interfering and the program just doesn't detect the mobile, but it pops up in my computer as removable disk

The phone needs its USB settings changed...

When it is plugged in, you may be shown a menu to turn Media access off.

If not have a look through the menu, I rarely get to use Blackberry phones with anything less than OS6 on them and the 8520 can gave OS4 or OS5...

You need MEP 0 reset and this is a BlackBerry fix, few people have (or can even afford) the equipment to do this task!

Good evening, I currently have the Blackberry Codes Calculator by y3kt. Seems the be the only person who's created a free software which i strongly believe in donating. But I am having an issue with it. When i plug in my blackberry 9630 Tour I click on the tab "CODE READER" and click "Read Codes" (button)which then my blackberry screen flashes and software reads "No Devices Found! " Is there a better software to use or a newer version to resolve this issue?

Something has happend with the new blackberries. I've had a couple of 9320's (I think that's what they were) in recently for unlocking.

Neither PRD's were listed in my software. (I have specialist unlocking boxes that cover more recent phones)
Both also refused to be read by the MEP reader. Confirmed MEP code from engineer screen.

Generated codes using the MEP, which was listed, but the phones refused to accept the codes.

One was resolved by using the MEP4 code, but the second is still a mystery.

So be advised when using this free unlocker on newer phones. Never try the code more than twice.

Slightly different layout to the original but this supports more MEP's than the old one.

My question really is once it's unlocked, would it stay unlocked if I upgrade the OS, or is it like the iPhone where its just a tethered unlock. I have always used iPhones so please excuse my noobness!

Thanks guys

Have you tried using the MEP4 code?

If the phone is from a network that piggybacks another network (Tesco piggyback on T-Mobile, Virgin use O2..I think) then a different level SIM lock may be used.

Also check on how many attempts are remaining. If it says '0 attempts left' it's gonna cost you more to reset the phone.

This free tool supports a limited range of MEP's but many of you will still find it useful. If this tool does not support your phone (i.e. MEP not found) then you'll need to post a request in the Blackberry unlock code section once it is up and running again!

Sadly I can't confirm if those are the correct code as the boss has f!cked the PC up & my box won't work.

Most blackberry's use MEP 2 or MEP 4. MEP 2 is if it's locked by the main carrier, i.e. AT&T. MEP 4 is used by networks that piggyback on another network.
You should only need MEP 2.
