briangoo,

version means your navcore which is 7.903, i would update your navcore.
just follow my tut
http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f179/tutorial-how-update-tomtom-navcore-map-first-timers-176617/
then install the 880 map.

just follow the step by step you will be fine

read the tut again
clue boot loader

To run bigger sd cards you will need - full support for SDHC on all Tomtom
models, also needed to use Navcore 8.412 and 8.410
and bootloader Bootloader_5.5122.rar

copy the file system only delete whats after it to tomtom root.make sure your battery is fully charged, tomtom will
restart twice, bootloader updated

got the latest uk& roi map 885.4055 for you, here's the link mapuk8854055.rar - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download (http://www.4shared.com/rar/KX_8wA-s/mapuk8854055.html)

this map works on any navcore, but doesn't have iq routes or alg, which your navcore 7.903 does'nt support anyway.

no need for you to change bootloader or navcore, by the way your 8g sd card is not supported on your tomtom unless you change bootloader, thats why your tomtom couldn't see it.

once you download map just follow tut,

backup all your sd card files to a folder on pc
before you copy new map to your tomtom delete the map folder on your tomtom first.
if you get stuck, let me know

it always works in the end:champions::champions:

when you have downloaded the map, unzip it and you will have a folder called mapuk8854055 within that folder there is a anther folder called United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_885_4055 copy that folder to tomtom.

just follow tut for 4/ download fast activate Digital Kaos - Downloads - FastActivate_24.11.2011_Premium_edition_v1.8.8.0
read instructions.copy fast activate.exe to your tomtom, then while still connected to pc run fastactivate from tomtom
click on update meta.txt tab, when updated, then click maps/speedcams tab to patch maps and speed cams.

what software are you using to unzip your downloaded files?
winrar/winzip

i'm using winrar 3.91. it has worked with all other files

ive just got winzip & a newer version of winrar & the meta file still comes up a pile of books & when you click on it, it says its in a unknown format or damaged ???????????????

you should not have a file like a pile of books ( which i think you mean a zipped file) on your tomtom.

you should have downloaded the map file named mapuk8854055, which is zipped, then unzip it,then you should see a folder called mapuk8854055 within that folder, there is a folder called United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_885_4055.th at is the folder you copy to tomtom.

using winrar i downloaded it then it opened up 2 brown folders the 1 underneath is the 1 uk. click that & it drops down 17 files which start cline.dat, cname.dat. the last 1 is meta file size 205,045 & thats the pile of books as you say zipped but the other 16 look like a a4 piece of paper with the right hand side folded a bit like a sd card which i assume means its unzipped & when you click on the last 1 17th it comes up ( this archive is either in unknown format or damaged ) so cant be unzipped

thats all looks right 17 files.
" when you click on the last 1 17th it comes up ( this archive is either in unknown format or damaged)" that file is fine its a sytsem type file for tomtom so unknown to pc.

just copy the folder United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_885_4055 with all 17 files to your tomtom, then run fast activate
as tut say's
