well, I dont have that much of expirience on programming pics, but I can read protected pics, and in one of the tabs you can have the choice to remove something called CP, I guess is copy protetection..

I bet you can`t read protected Pics. Microchip did lots of efforts to prevent stealing info from its products.
If somebody like you can read protected Pics, the bankruptcy is behind them, and no rumours heard ... Anyway can NOT be done by sw, only by savant methods.

I am to new to the PIC programming to assure that mate.
I read a lot of information regarding that protection, some say they are 2 ways to do it: one is non-invasive method and the other is an invasive method.
I just can say that I actually read a confirmed protected pic, and I programmed that same info into another pic, and it worked fine.
I dont say that I removed the pic protection, or dissembled the source HEX code...I was just able read the contents, save it to a file and then copied it to another pic.

Yes Meat, it`s about slicing the top of the chip and re-connect the fuse burnt in the programming process.
But...this job is done under microscope with " proper " tools for the job... That`s why i said " savant " methods.
I found a firm on the net : they said :

" we can break more than you can protect ! "

and of course charge accordingly !

You don't "slice" it off :)

You dissolve it with various compounds until you get to the transistors that need changing. Another method is to bombard the chip with electrical noise until you get past the protection. This can be done without any kind of expensive crap, you just need a special programmer. Not always successful though.
