Mercedes CLK W209 (2004) Speedometer displays "------"
The customer purchased the car with the speedometer already showing "--------" but said that the previous owner said that it happened when they disconnected the battery... i thought this only happened when swapping the cluster? Can this happen when the battery is disconnected?
Thanks

I had that problem on a W211 once. the coding was not ok, warning was off or something like that. recode with star (in fact, it ask me to fix this as soon as I went into cluster module with STAR). if not, like they said before, wrong cluster, or wrong dump. but without STAR, makes it difficult to diagnose that properly.
keep us inform on your finding!

Yes, this can happends with battery disconected
if it dash from this car
just use Xentry , or Star ,adn errased the errors, if this not work
then you can use china Tacho ,and do only in options:
KM.... NOT KM+FLASH...(I think this is work..but i forget)
or maybe its KM+FLASH...NOT KM
try it
I was have same problem .....many years ago (4,5 yars)
and it will work

Shall I get a sdconnect c4 clone for das/xentry clone? I think it would be good tool to have in my box? Will this do it?

first make diagnose with Star and read km from ezs then make dash same km. check Vin in dash. erase errors.
if not work put virgin dump in dash or virginise yours and readapt on car.

When you say dash and flash u mean flash what?
diagtech
22nd September, 2012, 08:52 PM
If you flash dash it stops the dash looking at ezs thats why you get the dashes if you flash it with miles required this will resolve your problem enigma will have this option in menu
enigmauk
22nd September, 2012, 09:04 PM
I presume it's dash plus EZS option as it says it does both by OBD but obviously we all know it doesn't

mate try to understand what we told you.
its enough to lock communication between dash end ezs by flashing dash even via obd and problem will be solved
diagtech
22nd September, 2012, 09:20 PM
Read between the lines flashing dash stops dash looking at ezs for miles and vin no so stopping this communication will cure problem

OK some info on this, the guy who sold the car to customer called me today and explained that the speedometer was replaced on the car and every since it shows "------"
So I will need to virginise and re-adapt with star? I don't have Star (its ordered SDconnect C4) is there another way as I will have the car tomorrow?
Thanks

if you have access to original cluster, you could transfer memory. if not, and you don't have access to STAR, than those m8 already told you what to do.

maybe this helps, posted from member Ne0:
IN THIS CLUSTER VIN NOT STORED !!! ONLY SSID !!!
First step : readout SSID (Key ID) from EZS (EIS) with Xentry.
Second step : clear first 64 bytes (0x0000 -> 0x003F) of dump to FF - set mileage to zero, cluster get current mileage from EZS.
ATTENTION !!! If you not do it, EZS may get bigger mileage from cluster...
Third step : write to 0x0040-0x0043 SSID (readed from EZS),
for sample 9019D01D
Sample :
0x0000 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
0x0010 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
0x0020 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
0x0030 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
0x0040 90 19 D0 1D <--- THIS IS SSID

I found the original post and it was for 2007 car.
Does anyone know if SSID and VIN are important on 2004 cars? Or is it ok just to change mileage to 0 and readapt?

Hi ! Try to connect with the car by mean of DAS, then go to SBC (Sensotronic Brake Control) read and erase errors, end live SBC. May be it will help. Someone earlier may get inside of SBC and the disconnected DAS .... "_______" may occur in that case. REgards!
