Hi bro i use mi X-Prog-m china clone for 3 yars and i am hapy with this tool.
Xprog reed motorola procesors in circuit but you hav to lift some pins and hav to set freqency and much moor
Yes is not awesome but for china clone is veri nice,i use programmer for eeproms but for motorola procesors i do not believe him veri much i reed procesors from car audio only and may be from some old dashboard without check sum
And if your programmer hav counter in firmware it will never work ok.
I struggle from years to get good dump for atmega but with no sucses
Regards Stefan

I don't see any mention of an oscilloscope in this thread. If anyone is using a tool such as an xprog or anything else to read in circuit and they don't monitor the signals / voltage levels when having problems then they shoudn't really be messing with this stuff.

Tonda is right. It is true Xprog-M requires a USB cable of very good quality and short. I think the habit will work through the serial port. Do not happen then no problem reading or programming.

Stefaudio what is your problem with the atmega dump?

Yes Xprog-m wants slower PC. I nave two laptops Dell D600 and Dell D630 core2 duo.On slower D600 work more stable.
