you must programmer step by step ,i used with USB-UPA:
1. Erase chip atmega 64
2. Program eeprom , Flash
3. Set Lock bits and fuse bits. Program lock bits, fuse bits.
4. Copy Xprogbox 5.51 to C:\ and run Xprognew.reg
5. Run XprogDesktop.exe and update .

I had the '--------------------' hardware ID when I made the mistake of having the MOSI pin wrongly connected when programming the Atmega64. No errors in programming and no errors when updating the firmware. When I eventually sobered up a bit and connected everything correctly and re-programmed it all worked.

Solution Dunker gave me, but the problem was in the same programmer. I used MKII isp, now programmed ATmega 64 UPA-USB and immediately appeared Hardware ID.

This is normal for xprog. Rosfar on the other side read only 512k and is correct also. Xprog use the whole range of addresses for this mcu from 0 to 1FFFFF, despite the fact that only some blocks are used. The unused blocks are filled with FF. Rosfar use only the blocks that contains data hence only 512k is produced.

You will need to have upa 1.3 installed but no need to be plugged in. Load your dump in upa and use the script to convert your dump. The script has 2 choices, convert from rosfar to xprog or convert from xprog to rosfar, then you must save the converted dump. It is easy to use.

To prevent atmega brick do not touch JTAG and SPIEN fuses.
Also this firmware has bugs.
For example,if you got an MCU that hangs on bypass security,when you press cancel,the windows program is cancelled but the programmer is still doing bypass security.
To get it out of that bug,you need to disconnect it first,and reconnect again.

I am having the same problem.. flashed with another xprog and also ponyprog but still getting "device silent" Error no light lighting up on xprog either... Tried a 5.0 flash but still the same.. every thing verifies fine... once lock bits done then verifies wrong... cant see what i am doing wrong... programmer was faulty prior to flashing but cant remember what was wrong.. think it wasn't reading anything but think led was lighting.. any help work by great...

Another thing that i notice is that the xprog sowftare find the device like xprog com 2 compare to the video that upload it that is writing also the (xprog-m).
Maybe the fdti eeprom is different,in mine is blank can somebody upload the fdti eeprom file?

I'm just wondering if the above issues are programming errors caused by incorrect connections to the Atmega. I've not yet heard mention of grounding (during programming) the pin between the normal GND and MOSI pins but it does apparently need it.

Make Sure To Disconnect From Programmer ..

The 2 GND pins being shorted together stops the Atmega from functioning.

DOH...

Had Another problem getting it to update kept showing hardware as "------------" but tried differant computers and differant usb lead and low and behold it all worked..

So have now updated my other Xprog with no problems what so ever...

with pony prog only i had to connect 12 volt transformer to x-prog power jack before i could read and write did not even erase the chip just write flash , eeprom and lock/fuse bits
open x-prog soft and hit update
100% all good tested on 1L15Y and 0L15Y , 3DJ33 , read write all good

Hi all
I have an xprog m v 50 and i tried to update it and i failed
I have bought a tl866a and s51&avr with extreme burner
I changed the atmega64a and tried to program it with usbasp s51&avr it always say error
Usbasp found on port but power on failed
So i changed to tl866a but with it i can read the atmega and erase it say succeful but when i want to program it says error adress 0x00000 buf val 0x0c ic val 0xff
And also when check the id it says ff ff ff
If any one can advise i will be appreciate

Usbasp work fine with xprog, bat need powered xprog. If you necesary i have(in other laptop) .hex .epp and fuses for Extreem Burner.

hi i did mine with ponyprog it is somewhere in this post , had to replace the 100 ohm resistors with i think 330 ohm and i had to power it up with 12v

Did you try loading the software and reading anything? I had the same problem with vvdi2. But somehow it was working.

Hi,

Does anyone has an issue with 5.5.1, like you read successfully eerpom or MCU, then you want to read/wrige again, and software always hangs on Check Device..?

Before it was working fine, this problem just started recently. Tried on 2 different PC - same.

To get it working you need to replug device and restart the Xprog software, and again only for 1 time.

Never program Atmega with Xprog. Anyone knows why are the Read and Write buttons grayed????? Blank check and erase device is ok successfully.
On pics, port is unidefinied because xprog is unplugged. If plugged in and port is ok, problem is the same.

I tried with 5.5.0 with 5.5.5 and with 5.7 (this one works, but I dont have any access) and nothing works, hopefully this one does!

Can you share ept file for FTDI chip? I reprogramed atmega via TL866A but unfortunately "device is silent"
When I conncected to MPROG3.5, my FTDI is blank.
I tried put EPP to 93c46 but my TL866A cant read and write this chip.

I have managed to update it to 5.5.1 with success i have all the authorization i tested HC11 and tried to read it as MC68HC11E9 with security bit i get an error message that says "XPROG-m hardware supply voltage too low Check XPROG-m power supply" anyone experienced this issue after an update??

Ok, I need help.
I had this software working fine in my computer and my HDD failed.
I had a friend install new HDD and had lost all my programs and files.
I am trying as I did before to install and wont work. I have box all setup but I can seem to

The 2 GND pins being shorted together stops the Atmega from functioning.

DOH...

Had Another problem getting it to update kept showing hardware as "------------" but tried differant computers and differant usb lead and low and behold it all worked..

So have now updated my other Xprog with no problems what so ever...

I have only been a member of this forum for thirty minutes now. My XProg Box is finally working for the first time since I bought it. I kept getting device is silent prior to doing the necessary research on this forum. Turns out I was experiencing an issue with both my USB cable and the corrupted firmware on the newly purchased Atmega64A! :-) I wanted to say you guys ROCK! Thanks sincerely for sharing some great technical knowledge on a common issue that many seem to be having with these XProg boxes. If you have never got yours to work, there are no lights visible on mine when it is initially powered it up. That is normal. That does not mean the device is silent. Peace out everyone! Knowledge is power!!
