View Full Version : Openbox/Skybox - add iptv streaming ulr to channel list?

As per the thread title, I just wondered if it's possible to edit a channel list and add an iptv/streaming link as a channel entry?

Are these boxes capable of playing back streams like this? eg. MP4?

depending on which box you have i don't see why not most of the newer boxes are said to play MP5 & can play some streams

whether the box could handle it well thats another question all together

Thanks for taking the time out to respond. I have the Skybox F5. Would this support it - and how would I go about adding the url to the channel listings?

The F5 isn't capable of streaming via URL's.

You will need a box with webtv facilities, such as the V8 or V6. You cannot mix satellite channels & streaming channels in the channel list. To access the streaming channels you will need to watch them via the webtv menu.

Yep. Got it working on my V6 box.

Delete the list that comes with the box & search for an m3u list on the internet. Some sites let you download as an m3u file, with others you need to copy & paste into notepad & save as webtv.m3u.

Theres a file in the downloads section that may help:-

http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=3165

I noticed though that not all streams play with sound. It looks like there's a codec problem that prevents sound from playing on certain streams.

You'll make a load of new friends on DK if you upload that list for others to share.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, I have loads of m3u files from a well known site but the m3u files contain .ts links which some may be aware only play for around 30 seconds, To play a .ts in VLC the loop button needs to be selected or in Kodi playlist Loader F4MTESTER is required and an F4MTESTER string pasted infront of the .ts link, Is there anything that can be done to make the .ts link to continue to play on WebTV on an V8S ? Thanks.

is the file actually named as a m3u file because a m3u file is simply a list of web addresses for tv channels when you open it up, i have had a php file which is a single web address for iptv channels which when loaded says it was successful but no channels.
there are free lists on the web such as....https://sourcetv.info/usa-uk-iptv-m3u-url-free-rtmp-streams-links-smart-tv-kodi-27052017/ you can try the file from here as long as you rename it as WebTV it will load but not guaranteed to work for very long but worth a try.

I downloaded the M3u list from here https://www.iptv4sat.com/download-iptv-england/. once I had it on my computer I renamed it WebTV.m3u. put the file on USB stick then put USB stick into my openbox V8S.

on openbox V8S:

Menu
Local Network Settings
Network App
WebTV
Green button (DELETE ALL)
Yellow Button (READ BY USB)

That's it you can select what ever channel you want and it works

well mine is working but after 22seconds of playing it freezes and I need to re-select the channel to get it to keep playing.

Does anyone know of any solutions that can stop it freezing? its like I need the constant loop function if I was watching it on VLC player

Cheers

Thanks for the useful info although just to add some useful tips from what I've gathered looking into said matter
I've came to the conclusion to add said M3U files it is best to use a San Disc memory stick because they can
transfer data in Linux as well as say for example Microsoft in other words different types of Data & also they
read digital data/commands as well. I've also trying loading said data using other sticks & it either does not
recognise web-tv file or in some cases it recognises it but when it tries to Upload it, it comes back with an
Error Message & it's not the data that is the error it's reading the stick anyway one can purchase said San-Disc
Stick (7GB) for just ?4 from Flee-Bay it's worth the purchase & it certainly does the trick

ok moving forward, and i am worried i may break rules here hence quoting you as an alert .... i loaded ( said success )a single entry thats a mix as follows

http://your.url.address:NUMBER/get.php?username=YOURNAME&password=PASSWORD&type=m3u&output=mpegts

it only shows one channel called "no name" so not working but must be close - am i missing anything ?

i know box not suitable but i want a play before committing........

i take it you are trying to load the url onto a openbox v8s if so it will come up as a success but you get no channels thats because you are trying to load a php file not a m3u file, m3u files consist of a list the web addresses for all of the usual tv channels.
if you have a android app for iptv loaded on a phone/firestick then you can input the web address you will get the channels.

yes v8s. so the only way it will work is if i have a complete list of channels ? i have tried several but all down.
ref the file above , why does it include the section " type=m3u " ?
cheers

the address will take you to a server that has the channels installed as a m3u files.
as i said in the post try it in a iptv android app, put in the address in and it will give you the channels you will also need a player such as mx player installed in order to watch the channels.

there is no specific file for web tv on a openbox, the m3u files must be renamed exactly Webtv then loaded into the open box in order for it to work.

i see, but i downloaded from a link found in the second page of this thread but , really, can't get it work. everyone says that it got work for them, but i can't get work.
before make them read by USB do i have to connect the box first to the internet ?

edit : I went to Tools and clicked Dump by USB, then choose Misc files, then Slect and Dump, after that i choose the 2nd option WebTV.m3u (Web Stream ) click Add after that Dump. once it reach 100% it will ask to click Info to see the result, if the result in OK. i returned to WebTV and i could read the webtv.m3u successfully. But the problem now is, there only a blank screen.lol

the box must be connected to the internet when you load the m3u file as the file is a series of web addresses for each individual channel.
