Ive got sco openserver cd but how to I reset password?
Here's how to reset the password,
Just follow these steps:
Reboot the system with the SCO OpenServer Boot diskette / CD image in
the drive
Type ?tools? at the boot: prompt
The kernel will load. This may take a few minutes. Eventually, the system
will display some messages
The ?Restricted Rights? screen will appear. Press <ENTER> to continue
At the next screen, verify that the installation media is correct. Make any
necessary changes to the media selection and press <ENTER> to continue.
After a few utilities are extracted, the system will display the following
menu:
1. Execute a shell on ramdisk filesystem
2. Shut down the system
3. Run IQM to start initial system load
Choose item ?1?. An <Installation> prompt will be displayed
Clean and mount the hard drive root file system (fsck /dev/hd0root ; mount /dev/hd0root /mnt)
Reset the root password with the following command:
/etc/chroot /mnt /bin/su root ?c passwd
4. then it will take you back to <installation> just shut down and restart

This is the procedure:
Mount the SCO CD and start the DIS. Remember to choose to boot from CD. Press Enter at the Boot: line. It will boot then ask you to press Enter to begin the installation. Accept the license and it will ask which CD to install from. Just take the defaults.
When you see the keyboard selection menu, press [Alt][F3]. The screen will change to all black and a prompt <Installation>.
At this prompt type
cd /hdFS/var/opt/K/SCO/Unix/*/etc
then
/hdFS/opt/K/SCO/Unix/*/bin/ed shadow
Type these lines:
P (turns on a * prompt)
1 (the root line will be displayed)
1,1c (this is a command to change line 1)
root::11628:0:0 [Enter] [Control-D](When you press ^D the * will appear)

q
Thats all.:celticparty:

Dear Artur,
Would you please tell how did you upgraded your installation to V52? Did you updated it from within DIS (using Administration interface) or you have booted from DIS Base v52?

How can I get a boot "diskette or CD" and will this wipe out the DIS program already installed on the HDD and have to reinstall the DIS v57 onto the HDD again? Or will this be the way to reset the root password?
