Has anyone ever thought here of compiling all the info of a total revamp of the Clip unit, Ie, a detailed repair list with a list of components that should be upgraded or replaced, a few layout photos & the re-flashing files all placed in one post so that everyone could fix their clip unit ??
Would save hours of trailing through this worked for me but didn't work for him posts,
Life would be a little easier,
Or perhaps a section in DK for fixing all of our gear ( A diagnostic unit repairs section )

PC ask for CAN drivers and HUB usb but not for ISO drivers !

I tried downgrading my version of clip. When connecting it tried to update firmware and wouldn't work after that.

I have just bought Consult 3 from obdfactory (?195) which is running clip V109 ok. Maybe when your clip dies replace with consult 3 and get the added bonus of the nissan software?

There is a easier WAY to repair CLip (at least flash chips).

According to Freescale (in present owner of Motorola chips :)) ) www.freescale.com/files/microcontrollers/doc/user_guide/MC68HC16ZUM.pdf (http://www.freescale.com/files/microcontrollers/doc/user_guide/MC68HC16ZUM.pdf)

The CPU that is inside CLip (both cards have one - ISO and CAN) HAVE capability for BDM (see page 4-42 / chapter 4.14.4 from manual).

Now, let's dig more...

In this happy family this particular CPU that power Clip (more precisely MC68HC16Z1) have only 1-Kbyte static RAM and use external FLASH also external RAM for program execution.

By checking pinout (page 3-7 / figure 3-4) the pins involved in BDM business are:

pin 59 - VDD
pin 62 - VSS
pin 64 - FREEZE
pin 66 - BKPT/DSCLCK
pin 67 - IPIPE0/DSO
pin 68 - IPIPE1/DSI
pin 69 - RESET
pin 71 - BERR
pin 86 - DS

Now...at page 4-45 / figure 4 -8 we see Freescale recommended BDM connection.

After i check (by measuring traces) i found BDM connections on both cards - they are EXACTLY as producer recommends (see photos attached).

As we found out BDM port for this CPU, we need a software for flashing, and i found PROG16z or PROG32z from P&E Microcomputer Systems (as info, but unfortunately NOWHERE to download).

I also found hardware interface for BDM (pretty simple).

The main concern is to find a software to put CPU in Background Debug Mode (BDM) and load flash thru BDM port (prog16z or prog32z are perfect for that).

Also for testing you could try Freescale Background Debug Monitor. I also atached s19 to hex convertor

Maybe someone who has some free time can test that and report evolution of this project.

Seems that you have a problem with power supply /regulator on that board, or you have faulty MCU which resets itself non-stop.

Hello, I have a problem with my can-clip.
My probe, always works well, and I have always successfully updated the firmware up to version V123. Green LEDs are always ok.
My problem is that with the following software versions: V124 and after. when I open the software, now says that it was not possible to update the firmware of the probe, and stops at 20%.
If I go back to software version V123 everything works ok.
I have tried changing the oscillator 32768khz but has not changed.
How can I solve my problem?

Did you notice with which firmware you have problem, for ISO or CAN board?
Try trick with renaming APPLI files, first with ISO, then CAN, when it goes without 20% error, then you'll find problematic board,
then try resoldering with hot air or replacing flash memory IC on that board.

You can use dump from your "old" flash chip, anyway it must be programmed before going back on PCB,
I think that those dumps are already posted somewhere in board.

I was a ISO led problem, and i solved making a jumper in MCU 1 and 132 pin to send the signal on to the rest of ICs.
ISO board start now but 20% firmware error. Before this I see in Strobe pin of LM311 I have 12v is that correct? I remove the IC and test in board and 0V IC pins there is no short circuited. is LM311 faulty?

Replacing the oscillator 32768khz
Improving connections
HOT-AIR heating

but the green led ISO off, the program does not see the probe.
You can help give you some ideas on what else can I do?

I have a second problem with the clip on. The update stops at 20% .Wine is a plate with a USB plug
I have no idea because I've already done:
Soldering, Replaced in the new 32,768,
I replaced with new ones and programmed 29F800
I programmed a new 24LC01

You can be shure that a lot of people would like to know that :)

There is CPLD that might be important as well... but to be honest ... nobody know exactly what are all the reasons for 20% update problem.

If hardware fault you always get error :) this think is normal.

Before replaicing all parts did you check any voltages on components?

That pin 24 EA :

External Access. If this signal is active (high), the
8051 fetches code from external memory instead of
the internal program RAM. If EA=0, the 8051
fetches code from external memory starting at
0x1B40 (AN2131).

So it's ok to be connected to GND (pin 23) as you don't want AN2131QC to run code from outside.

Hi guys i have an issue with my clip. Booster pack on car fried my clip so i replaced the 2 quartz and 2 AN2135 on both boards. Now i have firmware update (renamed files in directory) and all leds light up on clip. I can read the vin number from a 2013 traffic but cant detect any ecu on network test. Any help would be great. I have a not bad clone can clip V127 with AN2135sc (with 2 green leds on) (automatic VIN is ok ). But it's not possible to update to actual firmware to V154. block to 74% (and 20% on other old clip version V132 for example).
I would like to know if its a problem on pcb can or iso. when can clip receive a new firmware, what is happening on pcb. Is it 2 firmwares ? one on ISO pcb and 1 on CAN pcb ?
is it possible to load firmware manually ?
any information are welcome

I have a problem with the probe CAN CLIP (PCB version, such as the photo attached). The problem is that the software update probe stops at 74% and goes no further.


Drivers are correctly installed, the program just tested versions of the V151 and V153 on a variety of laptops (before work)
After connecting the power and USB light up all the LEDs 2x 2x red then green.


After renaming the file "applcan.s19" passes away and connects to the cars after KLINE (eg. Laguna I ph1). I know it does not solve the problem but I think there is a fault on the PCB CAN \ USB?


I bought CLIP (china clone) a few days ago before the error was merged with two cars Espace IV and Laguna And after that came the above described error. Installation in these cars is OK because other diag interfaces works


Please, any tips guiding me to the cause of the problem. Flash memory on board CAN is broken for some reason? Could this indicate a problem with the software?


Changing the software (on PC) version of the V151 to V153 could cause such a problem?
The connection with internet WiFi run time with Clip software may damage something, or is it just a myth?

I just received my CAN Clip from China (Gold PCB version with AN2135SC/36).

The problem is that I have a non blocking error while testing multiplex network : Short to earth on CAN Low
The software (V153, via VMWare on my macbook) says it's non blocking but it could generate false diag.

The fact is, I can seem to access to my ECUs but I don't know if everything is really available. It seems to work on my Laguna and Scenic but shows the same multiplexer fault on 2 cars (short on CAN L).

Could this be a software related problem or is it a hardware fault ?

I bought a Renault CLIP Can, it's detect all drivers but can only turn on 3 lights (don't remember if it is CAN or ISO). I've already swap the 32768 khz oscillator, but still no luck. I've notice that the PCB have some differences between the images that were post here. What can I do next ?

I have 3pcs Can clip with 74% error. Change iso flash, can flash, iso AN2135SC, can AN2135SC, iso eeprom, can eeprom, can oscillator, iso oscilator, usb cable. All parts reflow. 2 red led and 2 green led light, and after start make only 74% in status bar. Software V143 nad V156. System Win XP, Win7 32bit Profi.

Hello. I have a RLT2002Probe, if I connect to the car and USB only appears two new devices. This is the ISO after re-enumeration and CAN after re-enumeration. Two more are missing. And fails to update the internal program hangs at 74%, however, if I rename the file applican.S19 upgrade takes place and the program starts. Оscillator on the PCB CAN I replaced.
What could be the problem?

I have this sp19-b altera 926573 that gave me random lost communication errors at first, then stopped working completely. when connected to the car there isn't any leds activity, no relays click, no usb connection, completely dead.
using an external power supply there is a small spark so there's something happening (no fuse blown so until now so I guess it's not shorted), but visual inspection didn't revealed anything. zener diodes looks ok, fuses pass continuity test, did some rework even if everything was already apparently without continuity problems, and measuring the voltage on the board there is some juice.
somewhere I read about replacement of oscillators and chip, but in my case the pcb layout it's different. plus I can't identify my oscillators' value (r143pac8?)...

bought as replacement what looks to be a sp19-c model, with an2131qc hoping to don't encounter the 2135's problems.
for my fortune this is a DOA, the pc recognise it, installs it with three drivers (one generic hub usb, one iso and one can). but when the can clip tries to read the vin, the green lights goes off, first from iso (the board with the usb), then from can.
replaced the 32k oscillator from the iso, then on the can. I did some hot air rework, but the problem remains.

what should I do, replace the 2131 or look for something else? the problem is that I don't have/know to use a programmer for the 29f800.

PS: the strange thing is that the red light from the iso gets brighter only when plugged to the usb, and when connected to the car the relays seems to be too silent (desoldered and tested them and are ok)

I have a SP19-B copy and everything is fine with it except one thing: it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting randomly. The first thing I wanted to do is the DPF regeneration on a Laguna ph2 but as it disconnected and reconnected, the Clip did not provide live datas anymore. Moreover, the DPF regeneration program did not end even after 1 hours. I use it with V164 Clip and also tried the 130 version with no luck :(.
So the question is: Why does it disconnect?

My clip broke because of cable problem (disconnected during software update).
The problem was corrupted flash on ISO board (missing some software).
I downloaded ISO board flash dump from this site, flash but still I have problem. Software update fail, but when I remove appliiso.s19 lip works fine (I can do full diagnostic on my car).
Any idea what should I do. Maybe different dump?

we have a second clip dongel in the workshop.

Unfortunately, the USB port is broken in this case. The soldering track on the board has been damaged. And to be able to use this dongle but it must be updated via USB to use the new clip software 176 can. Does anyone have any idea at which point of the board I can solder on a new USB cable (I simply do not have the right circuit diagram), because I suspect that at the connector from one board to another, there is a possibility to solder the cable. or whether it is possible to update the dongle via RJ45.

My issue is my clip (old now) works fine on a clio 2 rs but wont identify the vin on my twingo 2 or megane 2 rs. I have changed software and all the lights come on fine but it wont connect via vin, or manually when i enter the vin? i cant connect to the car at all any more. You may have a damaged CAN transceiver PCA82C250. The ISO board works and you can diagnose older cars, CAN does not communicate.
In my Clip clone version of "GOLD", Can transceiver is in this place:

I have CAN Clip v183. Tested it on three cars. All cars have an old OBD connector.
In all cases all four lights on the Clip are on when connected. I entered VIN manually on the Clip with all cars because searching did not work..


1) 1993 Clio. Computer test list shows "petrol injection" only.
It get a red progress bar which goes to like 90% then nothing happens.


2) 1991 R25 V6 Baccara. Computer list shows "petrol injection" only, while this car has many other computers.
Petrol computer test doesn't work. I get a message to check clip and USB connections.

I bought this CAN Clip new on Ebay for 82 GBP. Maybe that was too cheap?

The only disappointed I have is that on my R25s only the injection ecu is show in the computers list.
One of the cars is in permanent limp home mode (the automatic gearbox). I really was looking forward to reading the fault code using the Clip.
I tried all R25 variants which have a AR4 automatic gearbox on the Clip.

When using the Clip on my 1993 Clio using ISO I *do* get a list of computers, even those that are clearly not in this car.

I was surprised to find that one side of one relay solderings were loose when moved. I resoldered this relay and then all the relays and the Clip worked again as when it was new.....

Hello everyone. hope you're doing well.
my Can Clip suddenly decided to not work with my Renault Symbol (Clio 2 without multiplexed network) but it works fine on CAN cars like Megane 3, Laguna 2, etc. Gotta add that both CAN and ISO green LEDs light up, and, since moving from 190 to 195 i was forced to do a firmware update which worked.

Replaced two 7002 SOT23 components because one of them was cracked and probably was bad but it didnt solve anything, replaced the 2 LM2901s and this didn't fix anything. traced most of the ISO board and everything seems in order, checked resistors and even the FMMT619s (for now, in circuit, and they seem ok).

It's starting to get on my nerves, i went through all 44 pages of this thread and no go yet. still doesnt't want to work on either K or L line.

SRAM chip LP62S1024BV-70LLTF gets unconfortably hot, and is powered by the 5.1v rail, not the 3.3v rail. anybody came across this? other two LP62S1024BV-70LLTF on the CAN board get warm but not scorching hot like the one on the ISO board. something seems wrong. anybody want to test this for me? touch the package of the RAM chip while powering the Clip from 12v.

finally fixed my CLiP. problem was SRAM chip LP62S1024BV-70LLTF on the ISO board. i believe it to have been short circuited internally and it was getting super hot, more than 80 or 90 celsius. Ordered from TME.eu this chip: AS6C1008-55TIN. The older versions of CLiP have a bs62lv1027ti-55 SRAM chip. The main difference between the old SRAM chip and the new one is that it is 55ns and the old one is 70ns. The code in the MC68 has no problem with the new 55ns part, no errors, just that i had to have a few tries before i fully soldered it on the board. My first SMD chip replacement, almost gave up. With no RAM detected by the MC68, it pulses 5.1v to pin 3 of the L04A voltage regulator and errors out with logic 1 (Vcc) on BERR, RESET and HALT. hope this helps someone sometime.

The CPLD chip can be damaged (but it can be programmed), especially the cy37064VP100. don't waste time, replace the chip.

CAN Part is always working, but sometimes it does not regonize the ISO part. When this happens all crystals on both pcb show 50hz ... when everything is working all crystals on works normal. seems that 3v3 also missing on iso board when problem occur.

also the VIN detect never worked. it is brand new from china... really annoying.

I never was able to read data on my twingo 95 when the engine was running. The device gets disconnected. Can you tell me what clip do you use that works well while engine is running with the 12 pin connector?
I already tried 2 clips the gold board clip and the green board.

I am happy to announce I found the problem after many tests.
The usb cable supplied with the can clip is too long and the voltage drop causes the can clip not to be recognized by the windows computer when the engine is on.
I tried a short cable and it works. Not perfectly though but enough to get some data when the engine is on.
I am using the gold board with the AN2131q chip.

I finally, have salvaged it by resoldering its relays and by cleaning a solder blob melt in between the pins of a large IC creating a short circuit....
Now, it works again!!!

hi, what do you mean by gold? there are more than 3 versions? if it's the one with an213.... chips i have a half ideea that since some chips were discontinued decades ago they refurbish with recycled ones or they messed the original layout too much and newer products are a bomb clock in terms of reliability, so if you can send it back asap. it happened to me a bad pc platform, in fact now i have a dedicated w7 spare laptop.
otherwise you can try the things already posted, swap quartz, replace l05's, but don't get too much into it as it might be less expensive to buy another one from different supplier (pay attention as there are 2 or 3 main suppliers and many cloned ads by child of a b1tch)

some more information, in case someone cannot repair their Clip. I have china good clone. Don´t remember if it has ever worked or not, but now my ISO light is off. Started troubleshooting flash and eeprom, switched AN2135 and to no luck. Then started looking at HUB IC, marked "CY7C65113C" - and noticed that from datasheet - pinout on the board does not match. easy to spot on my board - pin 1 and 5 connected together - if it is like that on your board, then you dont have Cpress IC, but rebranded GL850G
so far this is all I know, can update if there is interest.
