Transit Custom BCM D or Full flash

If I am upgrading a transit custom BCM do I need to swap D flash and full flash or would D flash suffice as I suspect D flash is what holds the vehicle configuration data. Please correct me if I am wrong

Also just in general would i transfer all data from all files to a new bcm or would the Dflash usually be enough?
