VW MFD2 DVD unlock

found it on another forum but i don't have the mfd2dvd myself so i didn't test it.

NOTE:
this firmware upgrade is designed for EUROPEAN MFD2 DVD units.

how to:
1. burn both images at LOW SPEED (2x-4x)
2. turn ignition on and make sure there are no power supply interruptions (you can start the engine to have good current)
3. press NAV button on your unit and put VWMFD2DVDEU0030.iso into MFD drive it will start to update the firmware - THIS MAY TAKE UP TO 30-40 MINUTES
4. after update done press NAV again and put the UNLOCK CD. unlocking takes just a few seconds the screen will show progress bar in a loop but once it completes single cycle it is safe to remove the disk from unit.

after that you should be ready to use self burned DVD+R DL disks however you still need to burn them on GOOD QUALITY DISKS AND AT LOW SPEEDS (2x). this has been tested with the VW EUROPE v7 MAP and reported to work ok (still, i didn't test it myself).

TEST THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

did the firmware update to my MFD2 DVD last night, worked fine. Put in the Cd with the new SW, the machine showed the current SW and the one on the disk and asked for confirmation to update. Selected yes, and the process took ca 30 minutes. Then tried the other file/disk, the one that is supposed to take away the copy protection. Could not get any proper response from the MFD2 using that disk, and the backed up navi DVD did not work. Need to continue to investigate, perhaps someone here can give some tips.

Like digitalt_kaos, me also successfully updated firmware and everything works fine. But the second CD didn't work. MFD2 sed "Wrong DVD". but I inserted burned CD.

Any idea?

You should try to burn the unlock image to an DVD disc, from what i have read.

1) Burn the image from the folder Firmware> VW_MFD2_EU_Firmware-> VWMFD2DVDEU0030.iso to a CD (not DVD!)
2) Burn the image "Unlock DVD MFD2" on CD (not DVD!)
3) Pressing the NAV button on the navigation system and sets the CD with the VWMFD2DVDEU0030.iso image, this process
may take up to an hour!
4) Set the CD with the image of "Unlock DVD MFD2"
5) Now you can insert your burned their cards DVD and it should be recognized!

Yes, I made firmware update and unlock successfull!

But my device still not reading burned navigation maps. As I konw the problem is that only few burners can burn correct navigation maps and I don't have the burner from the list:

Hi,

unlock didn't work here either. I burned sw30 update to verbatim cd-r (8x) and mfd2 dvd unlock to verbatim cd-r (8x) too. Same type cd-r's but only update worked.

For some reason, unlock doesn't do anything, no flashing screens, no instalallation bars, nothing. Now I'm wondering could it be that unlock cd-r has been burned too fast (8x). It is possible that it has to be burned with 1x-4x speed but it's weird that software update works no matter how fast cd-r is burned.

Now I'm heading to shop. I'm going to buy some slow cd-r's and couple ouble layer dvd's for the V7 navi. Let's keep this topic active!!

I got it working.

1. Burn the VWMFD2DVDEU0030.iso to a CD (max burnspeed 8x, Verbatim CD-R)
2. Burn the image "Unlock DVD MFD2" on CD (max burnspeed 4x, Verbatim CD-R)
3. Pressing the NAV button on the navigation system and insert CD with the VWMFD2DVDEU0030.iso image, this process may take up to an hour!
4. Push NAVI-button in MFD2 and insert the CD with the image of "Unlock DVD MFD2". Two bars keep flashing (installing..). It's a endless loop, so when the installation bars have once flashed in MFD2 after that it's safe to eject CD.
5. Burn the V7.iso to a DVD (max. burnspeed 2.4X, Verbatim DVD+R DL)

not tested myself, only one friend of mine has mfd2 dvd in his car but he lives in another city and it's difficult to set up a meeting to update. i will see him on the last weekend of april (24-25) and will try the unlock for sure.

PL menu for MFD2 DX is not the unlock. I do not have unlock for DX units, as far as i know the DX does not need unlock, they should read copied CD's without any modification. yet, i'm not 100% sure of that, i don't own one, my knowledge is based on what i read on the internet.

I know that DX navigation system for VW doesn't need unlock, my question was, is that file maybe unlock for MFD2 CD based nav. system, but ok , now is clear what's that file :)

Burn software and unlock on two seperate disks: i did it on a CD_ROM Verbatim -R (speed 4) and the map on Verbatim DVD + R DL (speed 2.4). Used Nero without changing settings.

like i said before, i had a chance to try this on touran mfd2 dvd and... i messed it up. the battery on car was new so me and my friend (owner) turn the ignition on put the first CD in and left the car alone. after about 25minutes we stepped in to see the progress and we saw an error saying 'flash rom invalid or empty...' and the screen was shifted to the side a bit. when i took out the cd and put it back in it start to loads again the SH-Graphic System and at one point it shows up the same error. The unit is completely down at the moment, no radio or CD playback available just showing the error all the time. from what i've googled so far there are two possibilities:
A - the power voltage dropped at some point
B - the CD was burn with errors or too fast

or both at the same time. now my plan is to burn the same image with different software at very slow speeds and try again. i will have a chance to fix that unit on the 8-9 may weekend... untill that time my friend will have to drive his car in silence :(

Hello everybody, I'm new to the forum and tried to follow the procedure for updating my MFD2 DVD to firmware SW30.
I certainly did something wrong because the disk is not recognized and the upgrade procedure will not start.
I burned the folder "dnl" found in the zip file VWMFD2DVDEU0030 following the ?billboard? instructions.
Could someone help me?

on my gti 5 I flash mfd2 with the ultimate firmware V30 succesfull, I burn the unlock CD on a verbatim at 2x speed, insert in the MFD2 two bar of progress appair for a few second, i burn a verbatim DL at 2,4x speed but the MFD2 return me an error "DVD not compatible"
... in the first page i read the dvd burner is not in the list of "compatible" can be that one the problem?

There is two maps on the cd with .cfg .uli and .dnl files. But the rns couldn't read them...

I managed to update the software version and the unlock cd seemed to work ok. Now I only need a suitable DVD to burn the map on and will let you know about the result.

I think the most important is the speed...when I try to write with UltraISO and MagicISO, the minimum speed was x4.
With CloneCD you can chose x1 or x2.
It is posibile to be in close connections with burner (working dvd was write on NEC).

Thanks to all of you and especially the guy who started it all. I managed to burn successfully the v7 map with clonecd 2.4x on a verbatim dvd+dl. However I would like to ask if anyone knows whether maps could be modified to be used with the MFD2. More specifically I need a map of Bulgaria to be used with the MFD2. This information will probably also be interesting to people from serbia, croatia, romania and so on who own the MFD2 navigation but do not benefit from using the comlete map services in their countires. Thank you in advance!

ok, this weekend i managed to recover my friend's MFD2 from error (flash rom invalid or empty) by burning the upgrade CD once again in Alcohol. after that the unlock CD, which showed progress bar in a loop. Then i tried the DVD-DL but it didn't work. i think i have problem with the burner, the only one that i have is TSST crop which obviously is not the one i should use. now i'm looking for someone who has the listed DVD burner and then will try again.

For starters: I can not find the poi's that are already in it. What files are they in? What is the extention? If we know that then the next question is where to get the speedcams in that extention. After that we need some graphics I think, after that .......

Maybe this is a cause...if you can't upgrade to sw30, the unlock cd don't unlock your MFD.
Try to burn with 2x speed and chose one of good result burners...for example Nec 3540 was ok for me.

It is like you said. SW 30 is loaded already. Just the TDK did not load. So I got a Verbatim DVD+R Dual Layer and it works like a charm on a RNS2.

Yes, you can unlock RNS2 DVD with unlock cd.

found it on another forum but i don't have the mfd2dvd myself so i didn't test it.

NOTE:
this firmware upgrade is designed for EUROPEAN MFD2 DVD units.

how to:
1. burn both images at LOW SPEED (2x-4x)
2. turn ignition on and make sure there are no power supply interruptions (you can start the engine to have good current)
3. press NAV button on your unit and put VWMFD2DVDEU0030.iso into MFD drive it will start to update the firmware - THIS MAY TAKE UP TO 30-40 MINUTES
4. after update done press NAV again and put the UNLOCK CD. unlocking takes just a few seconds the screen will show progress bar in a loop but once it completes single cycle it is safe to remove the disk from unit.

after that you should be ready to use self burned DVD+R DL disks however you still need to burn them on GOOD QUALITY DISKS AND AT LOW SPEEDS (2x). this has been tested with the VW EUROPE v7 MAP and reported to work ok (still, i didn't test it myself).

TEST THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

I have successfully made V7 maps work with the MFD2 rev. B on my Passat. I did not upgrade the firmware to V30 -- only used the unlock CD. Burner used is a TSST that came with my ASUS notebook, media - DVD-R DL Princo. Thanks a lot for the information and download!

I upgraded from Europe V6 to Europe V7 with the software in the first post of this thread.

In V6 and V7 the navigation-lady could talk to me, but I really wanted the upgrade so I installed it a half hour ago. Now I have no voice anymore...

The language of the system is set to American (metric) and I cannot change it because it's grey. I'm from Holland so actually I want the lady to talk Dutch to me.

Anyone who know's what to do? I really don't like this at all...

- eron CD-R 52x for update at lowest speed
- eron CD-R 52x for unlock at lowest speed using MagicIso (all other burning software applications couldn't be read by MFD2)
- verbatim DVD-R DL 4x at lowest speed using blindwrite 6 software

Hi guys many thanks for this thread as it is really fun, I have learned alot from you, I will appreciate your help as I am new and just bought my passat 2007 with mfd2 dvd navegator.
Can any body kindly tell me why I can not play dvd on my unit even in none motione condition?

I burned the 2 files as image with CloneCd and ImgBurn at 1x and i tried also with 2x, but the discs are not recognized.
Could it be that the files are not suitable for my MFD2

Hello guys, i solved. i clean the reading head of the DVD unit and after i have instaled the new softs .

Guys unfortunatly i have the next situation . I install the new firmware V30 and also i have unlock the unit , but when i put the DVD with the maps nothings happen . I have only the message :"The Navigation System being activated Please Observe RTR" and of course it's remain with this message . Can somebody Help me with this ?

Have you tryed to burn the Maps DVD with 1x (CD Burner XP) ?

Help me guy's.
Tried to unlock my mfd2. First loaded v30 firmware ok. Than loaded unlock CD ok(got cycle). Than when I insert dvd with map mfd2 displays dvd incompatible. Map was write on dual layer verbatim on 2.4x speed.
What is wrong? The navi is 1k0035198b.

I don't have version 47 software (USA version), this software is initially installed in my RNS2DVD.

I have next FW:
- for MFD2DVD USA ver. 47, 49, 50
- for MFD2DVD Europe ver. 28, 30
- for RNS2DVD Europe ver. 28 only :(

found it on another forum but i don't have the mfd2dvd myself so i didn't test it.

NOTE:
this firmware upgrade is designed for EUROPEAN MFD2 DVD units.

how to:
1. burn both images at LOW SPEED (2x-4x)
2. turn ignition on and make sure there are no power supply interruptions (you can start the engine to have good current)
3. press NAV button on your unit and put VWMFD2DVDEU0030.iso into MFD drive it will start to update the firmware - THIS MAY TAKE UP TO 30-40 MINUTES
4. after update done press NAV again and put the UNLOCK CD. unlocking takes just a few seconds the screen will show progress bar in a loop but once it completes single cycle it is safe to remove the disk from unit.

after that you should be ready to use self burned DVD+R DL disks however you still need to burn them on GOOD QUALITY DISKS AND AT LOW SPEEDS (2x). this has been tested with the VW EUROPE v7 MAP and reported to work ok (still, i didn't test it myself).

TEST THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

I,ve tried with the magnet to update to version 0730 but started ok and then stopped with no version to load (see atached jpg).
The last firmware is erased and now no Nav is in the unit.
any idea?
