I have just recently looked into the and decided on the dreambox 800HD. The spiderbox connects to a server and get 'gift' channels

You can watch 3pm footy probably on both boxes but the dreambox is going to require a lot more work from you then the spiderbox. If its the footy you want then the spiderbox is for you as the 'gift' will give that to you now whereas with the dreambox you are going to have to create the 'gift' yourself with a lot of reading on google. The dreambox is probably the better box in the long term just my personal opinion.

you can also use your subscription card with the spiderbox as well
also i have not missed a single premier league game since purchasing the spiderbox using only the gift channels provided, also remember the gift at present only lasts 12 months from activation the seasons nearly finished if you got one now you would miss the end of next season footy. your option then is as the dreambox google cardsharing

Remember the spiderbox Gift can & will be switched off at some stage (most likely this happen around the start of the football season ) forcing you to buy another receiver or another code to be manualy entered yourself.
(No such thing as a free Dinner) as they say.
The Major UK problem with the Spiderbox is they are been sold and servers run / shared by individuals such as DarkMan over on Alshit.co.uk based in Willesden Lane Killburn who has invested heavly in the Spiderbox and continues to bad mouth other simular receivers thus he & others are pussing these receiver and there notoriety.
These Receivers will do what it says on the box but are limited to how long untill the individuals opperating the servers decide to pull the plug, The spider is not a high bit of tech and other than the free gift would be ranked as one of the lowest receiver you could buy.
Buy and learn how to use a proper linux receiver and it will hold you in good sted for years to come , forget about this bit of crap that will be nothing more than a door stop in a years time.

if you are set not to get the spider box, i would suggest you have a look on the vu+ duo. it is better than the dm800 and much cheaper (almost half price of the dm8000)

Technomate 800HD is in the marekt, just wait to see how its users will rate. It is Linux, not clone and picture on TM(as far as my experience ) is better than Dreambox.

Well when it comes to a Spiderbox it does......
It is been sold by less than honest dealers like over on Alshit.co.uk, who used to sell clone receivers as original ones before the clone dreamboxs flooded the market.
The free gift will be switched off to increase revenue for dealers at some stage when they feel the time is right. this is the main reason dealers like Alshit.co.uk are heavly invested in this product, because in the long run they can make money.
This product is just an easy way to receive certain channels but will be used as a tool once you have bought one in getting more money out of you.
By buying a Dreambox or some others receivers you have the control to share or receive shares privatly without the need for commercial servers linked to receivers like the spiderbox.

But you can use the Spiderbox to connect to a CCcam or newcamd server as well (admittedly it's only stable on CCcam versions up to 2.12 at the moment), there is also an update muted to be out soon that will allow you to use it as a server?
Also the gift is only ever offered for 12months anyway, once activated the clock will tick down on your 12months, it's not intended to last for ever, it's just 12months, you then have the other options of CCcam and newcamd to fall back on, if you so choose.
Yes personally I would agree the linux receivers such as Dreambox and VU+ are the better machine, but that is for me personally and for the features I'd choose to have, for others the Spiderbox will suit them down to the ground, easy to use, update, offers futher options and you've got the bonus of the 12 month gift in the mean time. :)

Well said m8.
I brought a DM7000s when it was first released it's a great box but many just want a cheap HD box and not pay the extortionate prices that DM charge for there's.

the best card to get footie on is sky italy but it is very expensive at around a ?1000 a year
As for bootys question these boxs are very simlar in how they work to the techomate linux boxes they both decrypt channel via a server the spiderbox come with the gift which is a server that send your box the code to open the channels. where as the techomate linux box you set your own server up either for free or you join a pay server this is all basicly one forum or another of cardsharing

would it be fair to say with the event of a new patch to be released shortly for the spiderbox to act as a server, it would not matter for one minute if the gift was turned off.
although its not a linux box, and it will operate with cccam as a server surely a spiderbox owner would be in a simular position to a dreambox owner, meaning he / she would also have to google c/s

I know the Spiderbox isnt an open source linux box but the chipset is STi7101. This has a budget processor that clocks at 266mhz and is linux compatible.
Therefore I suspect that the Spiderbox is infact running a closed source version of Linux.
I cant be sure though.

you are correct about the chipset the ip box and qbox hd use it the latter with enigma 2 it would be a big job but i guess the main software / firmware could indeed be re-written

Yeh good point. Its very possible. Im sure it could be done by the usual suspects but it wont be because of the 'gift'.
To be honest when I first heard about the Spiderbox I thought 'what a load of crap' but its actually not bad spec wise. I still hate the idea of a commericial 'gift' server though. This commercialises our hobby.
The fact that its so simple to use means that people dont really need to learn the sat hobby properly. Therefore it literally creates a web of noobs (as the spiderbox name suggests). This easy access means the tv companies will crack down much harder on our hobby!!!
All i can say is Spiderbox=bad news in the long run.

to be honest although the gift is on my box i seldom use it, the eaglebox acts as a server the spiderbox a client you could say i've already googled cardsharing lol
but no one knows exactly where the gift originates wether indeed its a commercial server or what, there has been no surgestion anyone could take a renewal after 12 months.
it maybe somehow be in the best interest of the supplier to devolop the server side of the spiderbox to continue marketing in the event the gift does switch off.

If indeed the box becomes 'fully featured' it will be a very good buy. However it could go the other way. They could start to charge for the 'gift' on an annual basis. This would not be good news:afraid:

to be honest with you i can't see that i think the supplier is treading a very thin line at the moment marketing as a gift,
to carry on as a commercial payserver would bring to much atention and again its more than obvious who and where was running it

True but it can be indirectly implemented. I.e. some guy in China runs the server and the site for the 'gift' and the ****man gets backhanded payments.
Stranger things have happened. It seems that this guy is getting braver and braver as years go on so you never know.

You can obviously afford it then, alot of people don't have that sort of money to spend out atm, and to some even ?400 is too much. The Spider is a great box with very good connectivity (HDMI, 2x Scart, RF) as well as 2x CI and Card Reader for a very good price. My Dreambox 7000s is now in my loft as it's no longer needed.
