Thank you,
this I have calibration and after recalibration occurs FC 329
Before that there was T90099.03 and FC was not there.
So I do not know what to do.
You can look for changes in the calibration in this file, I find, but I see no changes maybe have a real problem in the engine?
really do not understand, what happens

The kind of do not understand what happened. Discovered an error code the 2215th dismantle the nozzle, have tested to fit on to I regauging ECM and discovered the 329th FC In desperation, I gave a sort of new jets - FC 329 appeared and did not do stale.Nic The next day I drove the car and everything OK = just do not understand what happened and what it was. So far Ride car without problems. We will see after dlesi time. So far all thanks for your help and advice. Sorry translated in Google Translate

Calibrations:
Some info. The company I work for got some new vehicles with the new CM2250 ECM. They also purchased 2 complete engine packs. One of the vehicles had a problem with throwing a flash code on start-up that the electrical charging system was not in range during the self test of the system J1939. This actually prevented the thing from going in service and making money. Cummins engineers got involved and had us hard wire electronic relays with no luck.
After comparing calibrations with the spare engine packs and other OEM cals. I noticed they were not the same. The problem was corrected after changing the engine serial# calibration to the one the Vehicle manufacturer had changed to comply with their wiring and programming with vehicle systems. You cannot trust the ECM or engine serial# for calibrations. The manufacturer is the key to calibrations in today's computer age. When in doubt contact the builder of the vehicle before the engine manufacturer. Also make sure you make a work order so you have a copy of custom features and settings you can try first. This is a MUST to get in a habit of doing.
JcTech explains it in post 31 of this thread.

Hi m8
Try communicating with the ECMs with the ignition switch off. Connect to the Ecm turn the ignition On then Off and then try to communicate with it using Insite/Calterm. Could already be in Rom boot mode.If it fails on the OEM plug try using the Sensor Harness Plug.

completed or not
It can also show new error codes

If error codes are displayed is not the cpu dead in the ECM-board

Hi M8
Rom boot your ECM and then recalibrate using insite or calterm and that should solve your problem.
You can Rom boot it either by using the Rom boot cable as described in this thread or using Calterm.

Hi before you try to calibrate the ECM with Calterm, calibrate the ECM with Insite to the calibration number that your Calterm calibration is based on.
Most ISM CM570 calibrations are the same for the different ECM's

Hi m8
For celect Ecms use pins 10 (+) and 20 (-) and for celect plus use pins 04 (+) and 22 (-). I made a plug with a switch to select between the two ecm types maybe that could also work for you if you work with both types of ecms.

Thanks for your response. I have this Celect ECM whith this error:

INSITE has detected some ECM(s) are ROM-booted and must be recalibrated.
INSITE has detected the following ECM(s) are ROM-booted:
ECM-B[7]
Please recalibrate the ROM-booted ECM(s). If the problem persists, please record the error number and contact the local distributor.
The issue here is that the ECM do not have data plate and Insite reads the ECM as part number 3617033, which is not in celect ECMs part numbers. (I'm using a bench harness)

Hi m8
just calibrate the ECM like you would normally do using insite and after you complete the procedure the ECM will be servicable once again. Just make sure you use the correct part number to avoid damaging the unit.
Sorry m8 just read the last part of your Post and didn't realise your predicament let me come back to you on this one.

Thanks Donniemnemonic, for you responce. I have tried several times to calibratre ECMs in rom boot state with this foult code but so far any has not taking the calibration. I'm using a rom boot cable, to put the ECM in rom boot state, then Insite detect it as such, then says something that the ECM needs to be calibrated. Then, I start the calibration process but the process suddenly stops without completing.
I hope that someone can share it's knowledge (and time) in a tutorial or photos with a description on how to troubleshoot, identify components and fix this ECMs. Maybe I'm asking for too much... I just hope some of gurus here in DK can help us.

If the ECM has active fault code 111, the ECM is dead. Maybe you can recalibrate and re write the memory, but no guarantee. Replace the microprocessor, or buy a ReCon ECM
If the ECM has inactive fault code 111, only a few counts, then the ECM is OK. If the ECM has a lot of inactive fault code 111, try to recalibrate and rewrite the memory, no guarantee.
Fault code 111 is a fault with the microprocessor and memory locations.
If the recalibration fails half way, it may be that Insite cannot write to some of the memory locations in the ECM. That is why the ECM had fault code 111 in the first place

I have a wiring diagram of the cummins side and the dodge side of it back at the office. I should be back friday and can pm them to you. there is a 1939 on the plug but it is in a different location than normal for cummins. We had to build a plug system to work with it and it took 3 times even with diagrams before we were able to communicate with the ecm.
any other numbers on the ecm? as sometimes they lead to the sn of the engine.

If it stars taking the same calibration that is installed, when the message preparing ecm for calibration shows up and finishes, pull the 4 wire power plug. Make sure every epa cert is moved into the list. Don't wait the thirty seconds. Plug it back in and restart calibration right away using a fleet count. In 2007, I watched a Cummins tech do the same thing but the first ecm smoked <literally> when starting the engine before he caught his mistake.
ALSOP.. We have a cm870 with the same issue as JTECH. Both in insite and calterm. The ECM will communicate with them both but in boot mode. Tried all of the above plus even bought the cummins bench cable (wow$$$). The ECM was perfect until We started playing with it to find the limits, so it should be ok...IDEAS?

I have a CM850 ECM 3965159 that somebody tried to calibrate with a calibration for ECM 4921667.
the ECM communicates OK with Insite and Calterm, it has no calibration in it at present, and will not take a clibration with Insite or Calterm, I have tried Rom Boot cables, 5EED and 1D0A with Calterm,
anybody got any other ideas?

JCTECH,
Did you ever get that resolved, as we have the same thing (Caused by me on the bench)? :stupido2: It is an CM870.
I have had problems with Insite 7.5. It is extremely unstable for calibrations and work orders. Move every EPA certification into the right side box.
Make sure the CPL is a match with the original calibration. Last use a 12 volt battery in place of a power supply for the amperage . I would still go back to 7.4 to calibrate. One calibration installed 75% with 7.5 and the laptop simply shut down and rebooted. Version 7.4 without any updates took the re-calibration with no problems. This was on a CM871 with an ISM, CARB. certification. Also stay away from USB and use RS232 com1, J1708 Not J1939 for interface communications. My best instinct is the J1708 is your problem. This ECM will read J1939 but will not calibrate unless 1708 is used.
Keep us up to date how things work out.
Thanks.

ALSOP,
Thanks for the quick response. We have a 30 amp power supply on the bench...we can see that it takes 2.1 amps at 14 volts. We also tried it at 15 volts just to give it the additional Umph it may need (nice technical term).
We are using insite 7.4 for exactly the same reasons you describe above. We have tried it with NEXIQ and INLINE 6 (which is a POS, and I don't mean point of sale).... :stupido2::stupido2:
So our next trick is still yet to be determined, one hell of a learning experience but would like to be able to come to some resolution on how to calibrate.
So once again, thanks for the great input, and yes, we will keep everyone updated as we continue to try.

In the Intelect programs PDF guides on programming the older CM850 ECM's, about page 98 is a special instruction. The ECM must be programmed with key off. With Cummins it might apply to the CM870 version you are working with? I hope its that simple.
I also purchased the ROM Boot cable. Your not kidding $$$ WoW! The CM2250 was also a shock to the back pocket. The old saying if you want to play you have to pay really applies when it comes to Cummins.

OK, so here is something interesting...we have our power supply hooked up to the ecm...it shows amperage as well as voltage.
When the ecm is turned on, in standby mode (no key on) the amperage is a normal 0.1 amps at 13.8 volts. When the key is turned on the amps goes to a normal 0.4 amps. With the Cummins Benchtop cable, when we turn off the key, the amperage does not go down even after 30 to 40 seconds (or 5 min). If we hook up to a normal CM2250, and perform the same check, the amperage returns to 0.1 after a normal 20 to 30 seconds, like it would with the key off on a truck.
Thoughts guys??? :alberteinstein:

Maybe that's why you are able to program with key off. Sounds as if it's a n/c circuit inside the ECM if battery power is supplyed. The key switch might just excite the boot loader? Once activated it will stay booted similar to the old DOS desk top 886 systems.
I wish all of DK was like this instead of asking for keys and never seen again. I sure want to know what it takes when you get it figured out. If I find out something from a guy I know who has worked on the ECM I'll let you know.

Thanks for the information. You are right Calterm can be tricky.
Info on ECM is :
PN 3682729
ESN: 35080420
E/C: AG20002.18
We have been trying the calibration AG20079.12 as the recommended update for the ecm.
We only have USB on MAC, but work before on CM2250 very well. We always upload the calibration first, modify off line, then download back to ECM and it works. I tried this CM870 to put into 5EED mode to play/learn and it stays in BOOT mode. I have tried all of the above posts.

:manuscarf:FINALLY GOT IT !:manuscarf:
:alberteinstein: It takes, at least on this one CM870, both the J1939 and the J1708, using a Nexiq USB-Link interface on a MACBOOK Pro running Fusion with a Cummins Benchtop cable With a MODIFICATION to it to make it work. We had to supply the power through a breakout before the Nexiq and the cable....Picture to follow (when I figure out how to upload)
You must setup the nexiq for J1708 and NOT automatic detection. Use the J1708 on Pin 10 and 20 of the OEM port (50 pin for us). If you only try J1939 it won't work, Hercamps last post led us to check on a scope and data sniffer to see if there were any collisions going on in the data stream...what we saw was the initial data stream was on the J1939 then it was looking for the J1708 to transfer the calibration...so when you left it on automatic, it went to the higher speed ONLY and never went to the J1708 side.
On Alsop input, the pulling the power was the switchover that occurs with the power removed, That showed the need for the Keyswitch off..
Thanks all for your input, as each and every one put in a piece to add to the answer...and it is not in any book, I promise.

Now confirming The switch off mode...
When we switch off the "Key" with the calibration being installed, the amperage drops back down to the 0.1 amps that it is suppose to be at with the key off. So we can deduct that in boot mode, the key off doesn't have the same effect as in a calibrated state.
Yes to answer the question, we are going to do this again to confirm what we did can be repeated...

Was able to repeat the calibration upload and download...the upload (saving to the computer) took almost a full hour to do. The download to the ECM took 17 min.
During the download, we tried it with key off and key on and during the middle of the cycle, switching the key on and off multiple times. It didn't matter to calterm. The calibration finished ok and checked out on the bench for all parameters.

dear guys woul you be so kind and help with a problem with a Cummins Celect Plus 3408303
I was being able to acces to the ECM, but it told me that the ECM needed to be recalibrated, so I selected autodetect calibration and suggested the right for the truck,
I follow all the steps to recalibrate, but at the end of all the operations the last 3 steps failed and the calibration did not transfer succesful.
I did all of this from the conection inside the driver cab,
after not workinf the calibration download process, I decided to to try with the connection from the engine, and looked like it was going to work , because some more new bars reload... making look good, and before I was able to turn the ignition key on...
again the transfer failed, the laptop disconnect from the ecm and now
I can not with ECM....
what can I do... the ECM is like not detected.. insite tell me to check connection but I know all cables are good...
thanks in advance for your help...
I will appreciate it a lot any help...
TAMBIEN hablo espanol.
Last Update:
Now the truck does not turn on, I'm in troubles, 'cause the first problem was too much smoke, but now, I have to make it turn on..
Any help is appreciate it a lot...
just turn the key on and off again and connect to the ECM whilst the key is at off state... remember that the Celect Plus ECM calibrates using the engine connector and it calibrates while the key is off....
so when it connects, select your calibration file and start your calibration process and when it requests you to turn the key off, your key is already off so don't change the key state to on... just click OK and it will continue with the calibration....
the reason why it didn't connect was because it is in the ROM boot state...
DON'T Forget to thank if it is helpful.

Thanks Bud...Got that on Cum...s site too. They don't say much about the plugs or part numbers. Guess I'll have to wait until the truck shows up and look for the Delphi part number on the actual plug. I'll post it here then.
Thanks again for trying.

Hi everyone, I've got an Ecm from an early cm570 that I tried to recalibrate with the wrong cal file. I had three Ecm on my bench at the same time and accidentally plugged the wrong one in. Anyway the recalibration failed and I would have assumed the Ecm would be in a Rom booted state but it's not. I cant communicate with it at all and have no j1708 light on my DPA 3. I've opened the Ecm and there is nothing that appears burn or anything. Does anyone have any ideas for salvaging this or is it a lost cause ??

HI
Are you getting 100volts on the big green capacitor? If you check just behind your actuater harness you will see surface mounted transisters in between two heat sinks, they should be six in number, check that none of them have a shot circuit,if so replace and that fault code should be history.

Hi Hpcummins
Glad you got it working again, though I can't take credit for that you figured that one all on your own. Seems the more we play around with calterm the more we seem to learn.
Did not even realise that it was possible to revert to default and regain full operational functionality from Romboot without having to recalibrate. Nice share m8.:congrats:

Hi Campos
For these old celect ecm you need to choose the calibration file that matches the ecm part number,if you select a calibration from a wrong part number even if if the calibration is celect it will fail half way through. In these ecm's you get 2 rom chips 27pc256 if my memory serves me right, that are one time programmable and they have this part number and the range of calibration acceptable to that ecu and you can not change this info.
Hope this helps my friend.

What do you want to do to be exect?
You should know that you cant change serial or part number in the celect ecm unless you change the 2 ROM chips in the ecm and pre-program it as the ecm wont communicate with any tool if you put blank chips on it,old design i think.

How do you clean MC68HC05B4?
Take the micro off the board using your hot air station and use a small tool that can fit between the pins of the micro, turn you micro upside down and heat the pins using you hot air while scraping the waxx that is between the pins with your small tool(what ever it may be).
Now you will need very fine sand paper and just stroke your micro pins on it once or twice, this will ensure that your solder will hold with little effort and heat.
Good luck

Try using calterm... faults that Insite can't solve, can be solved by Calterm.
If it fails try pressing the Rom Boot button and reprogram it. other wise your microprocessor FPC (A.K.A Fault Processing Chip) is messed up inside the ECM.

220305220306220307220308220309
Ok, I got a second hand ECM from a VW truck (19.320) for free (that`s a good start). It was replaced for delivering lower performance than standard. Dealer replaced injectors, pump and so on first (with no sucess) and last replaced the ECM wich got the truck back to working order. They tried copying the whole image from the new ECM to this old ECM but it kept performing as before. No DTC codes on Insite. Could it be that Microprocesor needs to be replaced? (It has happened to me with some car ECUs like digifants 1.82 where I fixed stucked fuel trims by replacing the 68hcp11). So if anyone has a full BDM read that could help... Any other ideas? I`d like to recover this one.
Micro is MPC555LF8MZP40, looks like standard bosch BDM pad,but not sure, I`ve never read one like this.
I`ve added a few pictures of the ECM for you to have and hope it serves others that were wondering how to open it...
Thanks in advance!

I have this same problem with a 3618046 Celect ECM. It will not accept a calibration download because Insite cannot see an ECM part number and serial number. Why are these info missing, and what could have caused this?
Does this mean that this ECM is beyond repair?

the problem is with your eeproms inside the ECM.
1:Try reprogramming it using Calterm that should do the trick.
2:If it doesn't work then you can change the eeprom 28c64
3:replace with a new one or one from an ECM that is really messed up on the bottom board.
4:Reprogramme the ECM again with Calterm

can any body help me... i am trying to fix a cm530 cense as it was showing all the exhaust temp. 17.8f on a QSK60, i tried clearing all the fault logs and trend logs and reset the cense, but i am unable to calibrate it. tried a lot many ways to do it, my insite cense option of calibration goes grey not letting me to calibrate, any suggestions to how to calibrate.
i am working with bench cables 3163064
engine s. no.,33153393
Try to put it in Rom Boot and program using Calterm. that should clear your faults, Note that if you still get faults after programming with Calterm, it means there IS actually a real fault that needs to be attended to...

"Ortiz"
there obviously is a problem with the power supply on that ecm that has 12.3V on the green cap, resolve this by trouble shooting all the components relating to the power supply....rom your 12V entry pin on the plug to your green cap...you could also check first if that there isnt a short across the "big silver component"lol next to the green cap.
(hope that helps)

I have a 3619037 Celect ECM which does not communicate with Insite. Power supply seems ok as it has passed the "smell test" (nothing burned inside), and it has 12V on the shut down valve.
Please share where I could start searching for the problem.

Hi all.
Have been following this thread closely but have not found a sure solution for repair of fault code 111 in celect plus ecm. Others suggested replacing at28c64 memory but then there was a question of reprogramming the chip. Has anyone successfully repaired this or are we still battling for a solution?
Hello Donnie,
I now have two 3096662 Celect Plus ECMs, one has fault 111 (internal memory/microprocessor failure), and the other has fault 352 ( low 5v sensor supply).
Did you ever succeed in fixing your faulty ECM? How did you do it?
Or can some DK brother share a fix for 111 and 352 on Celect Plus?
Many thanks.....

Hi Mathura
Look closely at the diagram of the romboot cable again and you will find the celect plus diagram also on the diagram pins 10, 12, and 14 on the oem harness plug are connected to the romboot switch.

Code 111, it seems difficult to cure because there must be a component chips are burning and my country if the component is hard to find / buy unless imported.
I have a 11 pcs with the same damage since 1999, after I open one by one and I can only cannibals them just for this one pcs, that will be easy to re-flash it, just as well to learn from this thread.

"reflash / recalibration" progressing well, according to what we want.
At Insite display for the ECM repair is the same as when we connect the ECM (good conditions for test only)

Hi There All
If anyone can help i would greatly appreciate,
Im working on a (CNH) Case STX535 Quadtrac with a cummins QSX15 engine details as below :
Engine:
Model: QSX15
No: 79354114
Family: 9CEXL015.AAH
ECM:
P/N: 3408501
S/N: 32059403
D/C: 12152008
ESN: 79354114
E/C: N11953.01
The engine ECM has been throwing randow errors from one extreme to another from no oil pressure, high oil presure, low coolant temp, high coolant temp, no signal from crank sensor, no signal from cam sensor, even when the engine is not running with just the ignition on !.
All the Wiring and sensors have been checked and all test fine right back to the ECM, so am suspecting the ECM to be faulty or the ECM software to have gone corrupt ?.
So as assume i am looking at either reflashing the current ECM or replacing the ECM with a new one.
Either way i am going to have to program with insite using an Incal file something i have not performed on a cummins controller (programmed plenty case and jcb controllers etc).
Can any body tell me can this be performed on the machine or is an additional harness needed to allow on bench programming ?.
Also can any one tell me a step by step procedure or a guide to programming these as the last thing i want is to damage what could be a retrievable ECM or to damage a new ECM ?.
Also looking through my current INCAL disc i cannot seem to find the incal file that would be relevant to this machine/engine, unsure whether i am searching correctly or looking in the correct place ?.
Also is it possible to read an old ECM to retrieve the current file/info to flash onto a new ECM (pressuming the original file is ok) ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Before u go try do all of that is the ecm not throwing up a fpc (fault processing communication) error code....its this processor thats rrsponsible for all fault codes...it would be safer to first locate the fpc chip on the ecm and replace that before doing anything else
Hope this helps

Hi poptest
That cpl is generic to the other common n14 engines..meaning the following cpls would work the same:
2025
2391
2592
I don't have 2590 cpl as I usually reprogramme to 2025 and it works perfectly.
If you would like..I could send u the dumps for 2025 on Monday and remember you have to reprogramme all three eeproms not just 28c64.

Hello joe gp,
Right now, I have two C+ ECMs, a 3408300 and a 3096662, both with fault 111.
They won't accept programming from Insite, and I get this error message "ECM-C(7) Calibration download failed".
I did a robboot on the 3408300, and it still would not accept a calibration transfer from Insite.
Since I don't have any experience or equipment to program eeproms, do you know if Calterm can fix it without having to replace the eeprom?

Sorry just seeing your post now have been offline for a bit but hope i can help you with this, if programming fails with insite try using calterm.i usually program with insite and when it fail;s leave insite at the stage and open calterm without disconnecting insite and just copy the ecm code to a folder on my desktop and use that to calibrate the ecm with calterm. dont know what DLA you use but Nexiq allows me to connect to the ecm using insite and calterm at the same time.

Insite doesnt have a boot mode unless you are flashing with it.Then it is automatic. What you need is a bench cable with rom boot switch. That will manualy put it in boot friend.Usually works for me.

There are a number of resistors on the board, you have to specify which section it is that you are trying to fix... otherwise check all the transistors surrounding that area for short circuit.

Hi Camp.
Sorry for a late response. Hope I understand your post clearly but i once had an isbe ecm that failed and shorted between positive and negative and i resolved the issue by replacing the large surge protection diode inside the ecm. if that is your problem then just removing the diode will cause your ecm to work again but you will need to replace it for future protection of the ecm. hope this helps.

Did you try to put the key switch on and accelerate full throttle three times before starting the engine?
If so there could be an internal power supply failure, which could be lost of the 5volts to the accelerator pedal or there is no ground within the ECM to that circuit.

All you need to do is to put it in )ROM BOOT MODE)
Have your calibration cd and your insite ready for calibration and have an OEM harness connector with you (preferably a short harness connector with loose ends/wires)
Put together these wires from your OEM harness pins 10+12 and 14 together then turn key on while holding these wires together in order for the ECM to swith into ROM Boot mode...
after this process connect to Insite and calibrate the unit using that same part number. CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU USE THE SAME PART NUMBER WHEN CALIBRATING EVEN IF IT FAILS TO CALIBRATE AND WHEN RESTARTING THE CALIBRATION...
ITS WISE TO DO THIS PROCESS ON THE BENCH....
