fiat bravo 1.6 16v , over heating problems ???????

hi

i have got a fiat bravo 1.6 16v , it starts fine , but its overheating ?? the water and oil are not mixing , but its been sitting for 18 months ? is there a special way of bleeding it ??

the heaters inside the car are blowing cold , even when the dial is on hot ??

theres a bleed nipple on the heater pipe at the rear of the engine m8 .. a black plastic circle , unscrew and run and topup water till it runs out and put back in

there a couple of bleed nipples i think mate. the heater matrix gets clogged up on these mate. try blasting it clear with jet wash

Also change thermostat, just next to the battery, big bulbus thing
did one 2 weeks ago, fat smelly bloke not been back yet.

thermostats more than likely has failed i would replace it,was the water level low if not stat has stuck.

As the heater cold is and the engine runs hot, then the fan on the water pump will be separately touched.

Could be anything, I had an astra-f the other day, bottom of rad bellow where fan switch screws in had all this brown clay like shite in it so a 3rd of the rad wasnt being used, changed the rad and it was a liitle better untill it over heated again. I pulled the head off and every waterway between head and and block was blocked with a hard brown shite, hammer and screwdriver to remove it. I also pulled the waterpump off and the impeller was completely corroded away

guys have said you plenty of things what to do,i was have once such car and i was replacing coolant and the same thing happened to me,try to replace thermostat and through the niplles bleed the air out of the system. it would take some test drives but in the end it would be okay.

I owned an astra F diesel which developed the same symptoms as you mention was having to top up radiator with about a litre of coolant every week although it never overheated, eventually pulled the head off to find it had cracks between the cylinders had to fit a new head - megabucks.

As to the Bravo, Fiat engines are notorious for air locking the cooling system and for heater matrix to clog as already said.
Perseverance when filling is the only way and it can take some time to expell all the air.

Also does this have an electric fan and if so is it cutting in?

I have the instructions some where for filling the cooling system on an Punto Mk1 and I think the procedure is similar on all of these fiats.

The best thing to do when you fill it is open all bleeds and then put pressure tester on filler (header tank or rad) and make sure all the bleeds are bleeding

Thermostat deffo!!!! The matrix wont get clogged by sitting but the stat will suffer.
