View Full Version : ZoneAlarm KeyCode Problems

OK
I've installed ZoneAlarm V9 and inserted a key code which works, but when the PC is restarted, it reverts back to the trial period of 15 days. I've been told to insert the key then modify the "zllictbl.dat" file to "read only" in properties to overcome this problem. But each time the PC is rebooted, it still reverts back to default with a trial period.

Yet in V7 it works fine with no problems with a full term of use.

I've used the ZoneAlarm removal tool to have a clean install, but when re-installing it always remembers my key and its always inserted automatically. Where if its a fresh/clean install I should insert the key manually. So somewhere there are hidden files left behind holding data of ZAlarm

XP Pro + SP3

Any clues of how to fix this with a patch etc.?? :banghead:

Thanks

before reinstalling have you tried using a reg cleaner to take out any entries that may be left in the registry associated with the software.

Hi thanks

Yes I tried 2 reg cleaners and tired regedit to remove all Zonealarm and Zonelabs entries.

Have read that some zonealarm hidden files are left behind to prevent modifying such as the "zllictbl.dat" file and preventing re-entry of the same codes etc. as you could with the older versions of various software programs.

thanks

I haven't used this particular torrent myself (I'm just using ZA Pro myself), but if your copy is reverting back to a trial
after you reboot, you need to take a few additional steps to keep it registered. ZoneLabs caught on to the read-only trick;
you need to take it a bit further.

Important : Disconnect Internet
Install ZA and reboot like usual. When the system reboots, it'll ask for your key. Enter your key and immediately reboot. (You don't want the software doing an update yet.)

Boot into safe mode. Open Explorer, and locate zllictbl.dat. In Vista and 7, you'll find it in
"C:\ProgramData\CheckPoint\ZoneAlarm". (ProgramData is hidden.) In XP, it's in C:\Windows\System32.
if you have previous install it do this:

I need to completely remove ZoneAlarm, or there are remnants of
ZoneAlarm on my system

Solution

If possible, first try to uninstall ZoneAlarm normally from your Start
Programs ZoneAlarm menu. If this fails, or you want to ensure that all
ZoneAlarm files were removed from the system properly, continue with the
steps below.

Please make sure that you have the latest version downloaded first:

ZoneAlarm by Check Point - Award winning PC Protection, Antivirus, Firewall, Anti-Spyware, Identity Protection, and much more. (http://www.zonealarm.com/trial)

01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
(Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning
10.) Click OK
11.) Double click C:

Note: In the future steps if you do not see any files or folders, please click
the "Show Files" link to view them.

12.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
13.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder (if present), click Delete, and choose
Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs -
> ZoneAlarm folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as
possible.

14.) Close this window
15.) Click Start, My Computer
16.) Double Click the C:
17.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
18.) Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
19.) Double Click the System32 Folder
20.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder (if present), click Delete, and choose
Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs
folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as possible.

21.) Locate and delete the following files in the System32 folder if they are
present:

- vsconfig.xml
- vsxml.dll
- vsregexp.dll
- vsdata.dll
- vsdata95.vxd
- vsdatant.sys
- vsmonapi.dll
- vspubapi.dll
- vsinit.dll
- vsutil.dll
- vswmi.dll
- zlcommdb.dll
- zlcomm.dll
- **bleep**.dat
- zpeng24.dll

22.) Clear your Temp Directory per the instructions below.

- Go to Start -> Run
- Type %temp% and click OK
- Select all of these files and delete them

23.) Clear the Prefetch folder per the instructions below (Windows XP only).

- Go to Start -> Run
- Type Prefetch and click OK
- Select all of these files and delete them

24.) Remove the necessary registry entries:

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start -> Run -> and type regedit. Click on Help -> Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

To remove the needed registry entries, go to Start -> Run and type in
regedit. Choose OK, and use the folders on the left side of the Registry
Editor window to navigate to the specified directories below. Note that you
will remove the entire folder specified (eg, Zone Labs, vsmon, vsdatant):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
26.) Restart the computer.
27.) Try to install the latest version again

First, bring up the properties and go to the security tab. You need to set Administrators and Authenticate Users permissions to Read and
Read/Execute ONLY. Turn off ALL write permissions. This will stop ZA from resetting the read only flag. Then make the file read only. You're done.

That's it, reboot, and you're good to go.

Thanks for that,

OK done all as above, but still same

My versions of XP Pro & SP3 has no properties as you state above either for ZoneAlarm or Windows etc. But if I look at Properties for ZoneAlarm its already set for read only, but greyed out. ???

The licence I put gave me some 65000 days, but as soon as the internet is turned on its updates and reverts back to trial leaving my key in its place but the trial is running for 30 days etc.
