[Video] Intall DAS & XENTRY 09-2010

Hi DK users!

I've taken a lot from DK so its time to give something in return.
I made an video explaining how to install DAS & XENTRY 09-2010 following Zolookas text guide and tools.
It was made on Virtual machine but you can do it same way on your laptop or desktop.

Description of video:

01? Install Partition Manager.
02? Disable DVD drive so that you can get all letter for partitions correctly at first time.
03? Make Partitions.
04? Create account STAR.
05? Enable DVD drive.
06? Login using STAR account and prepare Install using Zolookas tools.
07? Place DAS key.**
08? Install DAS (long, long process just wait, even if you think its stuck :sleep: just wait... )
09? When you get the message Setup complete don't press the Finish button go back to
Zolookas folder and run after_installation.bat, only then press the Finish button.
10? Disable Automatic hotfix installation.
11? Disable Online Update BG service
12? Install Xentry & Activate
Here you must be around the computer because you need to delete one file from folder
F:\Programme\Xentry\bin Note that bin its an hidden folder so take precautions
before you start installation of Xentry, go to folder options and make them visible
so that you are able to delete the UserConfig.xml file once its created.

If you fail to do this, installation will never end and gets stuck with message creating folders and icons.
If it happens go to task manager and terminate process then repeat process of installation.
You don't need to uninstall it just reinstall.

Now the activation stuff, its 09-2010 and old xentry keys don't work...
actually they work if you replace CommonLic.dll
from folder C:\WINNT\zak\StarUtils\ when you try to activate StarUtilities with old key
it will accept the key but Xentry will not work. When you star Xentry its gives
same license error but the great Zolookas made an executable to fix that so
you just need to execute xe09.exe and you have your Xentry working.

13? COM port settings

14? (NOT ON VIDEO)
Go to folder C:\Programme\DAS\Bin\ and edit file cal.ini
LOOK FOR LINE
PLATFORM=PART_W
EDIT TO
PLATFORM=PART_D2

I did your steps and still the same....not working,,cames up and goes and never opens like my other version 01-2010

How did you conclude it would not be suitable? If the video is as it was when I had a look at it, the file shown at the video did not have the same attributes as the correct one from the forum (perhaps intentionally, the video just showed the file that needs to be replaced, not intended to show details of the exact file that should replace the original one).

I am runing standard XP , AND THE APPID IN THE SHOWN VIDEO IS 253 BUT MINE IS 252.
HOPE THAT YOU HELP TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE STARUTILITIE DOESN'T accept all proposed xentry activation

Looks like you are demanding that someone fix your installation... i personally don't like those capitals letters my friend.

App id 253 its for virtual environment video was made on virtual machine thats why you see 253...

To resolve your problem you must redo some steps:
1 copy CommonLic.dll do the folder were your starutil is,
can be in C:\WINNT\zak\StarUtils\ or C:\Windows\zak\StarUtils\
2 open starutil paste your xentry key
3 run xe09.exe

I installed it fine without any error,

once i try to connect to a vehicle i reach till the ( Devaloper license warning ) and thats it !!
it hangs , i try to go forword ( F2) , ( Enter ) but it wont proceed to the next step !

I install DAS and Xentry successfully.
Does anyone have installation guide for EPC & WIS 09/2010 ? I downloaded EPC_0910_1of1_b1.iso and wis0910.nrg

installation instructions you should find inside the dvd,..they are there from years,...but you can not install these updates,..you need base dvd's:
epc net full set from 05.2010
wis net full set from 07.2010

and then update to present release!

I don't have Serial port in my new laptop i use ( USB TO RS232 ) cable , could it be possible that this is the couse of my problem ?

Yes very possible,
i had no luck using Usb-Serial or Pcmcia card,
but others have these above working fine...

and as soon as i used laptop with real serial
worked fine

The thread topic mentions DAS & Xentry (and some talk about WIS and EPC issues), which one did you have trouble with and if you were unable to connect with the car, you must have had some kind of an error message. Would you mind telling the details?

It is worth checking your COM device.

If your are using a USBtoHUB serial device with Prolific drivers you will most probably have problems.

Try using a "real" com device , among the best ones being those with the Oxford chipset.

One more thought, DB_member is also quite corect to ask which application you have trouble with connecting.
Is it DAS or Xentry you are having trouble with ??
What fixes have you applied ??

I have not tried Xentry yet , when i pic a car i am redirected to DAS from Xentry i guess this happen when i choose a car that is not supported by Xentry .

so i am assuming that i have the problem with both DAS & Xentry

In 2010.09 you need different Blacklist fixes for DAS and Xentry.

Backdate your computer and install all fixes including timeout fix.

Did you install DAS with a single admin account on the computer? Any guide would suggest setting up another account just in case something like what you've observed happens. Unfortunately it may be too late now.

You may get some help with the STAR account password though.

People who read the guide carefully know that default password for user STAR is User$star2004

make certain too create 2nd Admin Account,
because STAR has a tendancy to pop that password
back ON again,

For your help before installing DAS install starutils from below and then install DAS.

You should end up using HHT for these cars. Did you try from DAS? You can start HHT directly too (if I remember right, not all HHT cars appear in that case but I don't use HHT often and could remember wrong).

Hi, when you get the message, just press "enter" key ! It will open starUtils.

You should end up using HHT for these cars. Did you try from DAS? You can start HHT directly too (if I remember right, not all HHT cars appear in that case but I don't use HHT often and could remember wrong).

HTT-WIN pops up depending on requested check on some vehicules e.g. 210.025 EVE (injection system). In version 09-2010 it still works.

What I mean instead is that there is no data for some cars e.g. W126, W140 while we are able to select these cars in xentry.

I had the same problem. You need to manually install .net framework and delete the two lines within prepare.bat which refer to .net framework and you should be fine.

You are supposed to use DAS for the W210 and the A168. Xentry probably does not correctly start DAS if you have not applied the timeout fix and if you cannot start DAS directly.

The straightforward option to use a shortcut to DAS32R2.EXE file and change the language parameter there have been posted all over.

A more complete option is to modify the current shortcut to login2.bat or login3.bat and the language settings there would be my favourite.

In any case you have to extract the language files to the thesaur folder.

With the latest BIOS it would support 2 times 1 GB memory sticks, assuming both connectors are good.

I have not seen a big difference above 512 MB RAM, at 256 it is slow. More memory would certainly not harm.

I solved my problem in this way
1. Go to f:\Programme\Xentry\bin\
2. Change attributes of ?asam3d.ini? and remove ?read only?
3. Open ?asam3d.ini? in a text editor such as notepad
4. Look for ?Drivers=T? or any other values and change to ?Drivers=D?

now I get this message after vin check

I've taken a lot from DK so its time to give something in return.
I made an video explaining how to install DAS & XENTRY 09-2010 following Zolookas text guide and tools.
It was made on Virtual machine but you can do it same way on your laptop or desktop.

01? Install Partition Manager.
02? Disable DVD drive so that you can get all letter for partitions correctly at first time.
03? Make Partitions.
04? Create account STAR.
05? Enable DVD drive.
06? Login using STAR account and prepare Install using Zolookas tools.
07? Place DAS key.**
08? Install DAS (long, long process just wait, even if you think its stuck :sleep: just wait... )
09? When you get the message Setup complete don't press the Finish button go back to
Zolookas folder and run after_installation.bat, only then press the Finish button.
10? Disable Automatic hotfix installation.
11? Disable Online Update BG service
12? Install Xentry & Activate
Here you must be around the computer because you need to delete one file from folder
F:\Programme\Xentry\bin Note that bin its an hidden folder so take precautions
before you start installation of Xentry, go to folder options and make them visible
so that you are able to delete the UserConfig.xml file once its created.

If you fail to do this, installation will never end and gets stuck with message creating folders and icons.
If it happens go to task manager and terminate process then repeat process of installation.
You don't need to uninstall it just reinstall.

Now the activation stuff, its 09-2010 and old xentry keys don't work...
actually they work if you replace CommonLic.dll
from folder C:\WINNT\zak\StarUtils\ when you try to activate StarUtilities with old key
it will accept the key but Xentry will not work. When you star Xentry its gives
same license error but the great Zolookas made an executable to fix that so
you just need to execute xe09.exe and you have your Xentry working.

Better to update to SP3 first. DAS installation would attempt that but may not always succeed (I think specifically with odd languages which should not be an issue in your case).

You usually do get Antivirus SW, the need depends on how you use the computer.

Better to try with one memory stick in one slot and if you get the memory failure beep codes, abandon that memory slot. From the IBM T30 documents you can figure out the exact beep codes.

Do you have a single memory stick at 512 MB or 1 GB? That would be sufficient.

My T30 will be only used as a STAR machine so was wondering if I would need virus protection as I have no intention of hooking up to web (except for the SP3 update).
So therefore there shouldn't be exposure to potential viral sources?
Should I go ahead and put MSE on or something free? Would been to be as lite on resources as possible though.

I currently only have a 256 Mb stick. I tried it in the vacant slot, but got the beeps (and completely blank screen).
But I wasn't sure if you can only use the second slot provided there's a stick in the first one?

Interestingly, when I set up the STAR user account, Windows selected the yellow car icon as the graphic. How did it know?!?!?! :-))

Anyway, got a few issues. DAS doesn't run. Can make it run through XENTRY but not from the DAS icon on desktop.
Also can't find simulator mode.

Which DAS/Xentry release are you running?

Xentry start window is a frame for several applications. You should be able to start WIS locally but EPC is intended for on-line access and for TIPS there is no other option except on-line even available.

09/2010 DAS should run from the desktop icon without any tricks (time-out and blacklist fixes should be sufficient).

Are you referring to the Xentry icons at the left side of the window when you open Xentry and start selecting the car? This could be an issue with your registry keys although the tool should do it right. Is your star diagnosis registry key "Compact4" and only that?

OK in regedit, under STAR DIAGNOSE - COMPACT4 there are three items:
Default,
HERMANN
NETZAKTIV

There's also:
HMS990 ON (Only has Default in this folder)
HORFIX (This folder contains Default and UpdateFlag)

Looks OK to me except that you should change "XD" from above to "PKW". This should not explain your problem though, with "XD" you should just be missing the Cars option at the DAS vehicle selection menu. I don't know what could cause your issue.

I would try to reinstall DAS. It would be useful to have a hard drive image after major installation steps, then you do not need to start from scratch if something goes seriously wrong. In your case I would try to install DAS on top of the existing installation but use tools as if you were installing it the first time.

Perhaps someone else can answer your other questions.

The lan.id file should be dependent on the creation time/date, so you would need some new keys but that is not a problem, you can always request new keys.

You should not need to change this file to make DAS run correctly, you would need it for Xentry. As long as StarUtilities accepts your (proper) keys, I would not expect this file being your issue, never know though.

I assume you mean WIS NET Standalone, any time before WIS installation should be OK. But shouldn't you make DAS work first, does not make sense to spend time on other applications if you need to start from the scratch again because of DAS issues?

I agree entirely. Reason I asked is because when you kind guys supply our DAS and Xentry keys, there's also a WIS key displayed too. So was wondering if that needs to be entered in order for DAS and Xentry to work.

My intention is to get DAS working first and then tackle WIS and EPC later.

BTW, I already have a WIS and EPC key generator. Would I use those or do I use the WIS key supplied here on the forum? (Or doesn't it matter?)

When I ran the DAS setup, it didn't ask me for a language selection (like it does on the vid).
Also, it said time for installation would be something like 80 mins (I think). That doesn't sound long enough for a complete install on a T30 running at 1.6GHz and 256Mb RAM, does it?

Just wondering if either of the above are reason why DAS wouldn't run from desktop? i.e. it didn't install all of it?

It would be completely safe to install on top of the 09/2010 setup. Hopefully the issues you have seen previously would not get inherited from this baseline (but were coming from your previous DVD content).

You cannot apply the time-out fix before you have installed DAS. DAS does not install if the release is too old, PC date needs to be set within about 3 months from the release date.

I've always had the "real" DAS desktop icon, not the one you make for das32r2.exe but for the "Cobra\DbDlm\Login2.bat" file (not sure if it was on the desktop or if it was only at the programs menu). For the 11/2010 you should at least be able create the short-cut yourself.

Maybe some of you guys have already encountered it and know a solution.....if I had to make a guess then the problem is either with my Xentry key (which was made with an old keygen that doesn't even open up developer mode, but it's supposed to work with 2010/1 Xentry...), or the also old commonlic.dll (but since I read it somewhere here that is only necessary to put the key into Star Utilities in which I was successful), or maybe the problem is that I'm installing on a 60Gb hard-drive? :S Though everything seems to have installed fine...only windows is complaining about small disk-space left on the "Recover" drive, but I don't think that has anything to do with this....
Anyway if you guys could help me out with this, I'd be really grateful.

60 GB is just fine, I have D-Recover with 1GB and no problem. I understand you did enter the DAS key but the installation still complains at some stage of DAS installation about the DAS licence key. I have not seen that myself. I hope someone else can help you. It is a pity when 95% of installations go (relatively) smoothly but for some odd reason not all. The standard issues get well covered but it is unfortunate that those 5% get less help because so few have ever faced those same issues and so few are really able to help.

Don't be afraid of requesting help, I've only tried to cover some easy cases so that the real experts would not need to spend their time. If anyone does not like questions, they should not be annoyed, nobody has to spend their time on these forums if they do not want to.

I understand you have made a lot of homework and you've already tried to install at least two different DAS releases and still faced problems. I feel you do deserve some time from experts, everyone at the forum should be able to enjoy the diagnosis SW if willing to work as hard as you have done.

I'm grateful for any input I receive from forums and particularly thankful to you DB as you've always offered support and suggestions.

I'll try this install (11 2010) again, but if it fails I will try a third and final disc. If that doesn't work, I will probably give up.

Hi DK users!

I've taken a lot from DK so its time to give something in return.
I made an video explaining how to install DAS & XENTRY 09-2010 following Zolookas text guide and tools.
It was made on Virtual machine but yo
01? Install Partition Manager.
02? Disable DVD drive so that you can get all letter for partitions correctly at first time.
03? Make Partitions.
04? Create account STAR.
05? Enable DVD drive.
06? Login using STAR account and prepare Install using Zolookas tools.
07? Place DAS key.**
08? Install DAS (long, long process just wait, even if you think its stuck :sleep: just wait... )
09? When you get the message Setup complete don't press the Finish button go back to
Zolookas folder and run after_installation.bat, only then press the Finish button.
10? Disable Automatic hotfix installation.
11? Disable Online Update BG service
12? Install Xentry & Activate
Here you must be around the computer because you need to delete one file from folder
F:\Programme\Xentry\bin Note that bin its an hidden folder so take precautions
before you start installation of Xentry, go to folder options and make them visible
so that you are able to delete the UserConfig.xml file once its created.

If you fail to do this, installation will never end and gets stuck with message creating folders and icons.
If it happens go to task manager and terminate process then repeat process of installation.
You don't need to uninstall it just reinstall.

Now the activation stuff, its 09-2010 and old xentry keys don't work...
actually they work if you replace CommonLic.dll
from folder C:\WINNT\zak\StarUtils\ when you try to activate StarUtilities with old key
it will accept the key but Xentry will not work. When you star Xentry its gives
same license error but the great Zolookas made an executable to fix that so
you just need to execute xe09.exe and you have your Xentry working.

3. Open ?asam3d.ini? in a text editor such as notepad
4. Look for ?Drivers=T? or any other values and change to ?Drivers=D?

Well after one week of messing around, I can finally say that I have managed to solve the problem. I'm going to sum it up what did I do to help anyone else who might have gotten the same error.
So all I did was that I first installed the 2011/1 DAS with Xentry, changed the commonlic.dll file then generated a key with an old Xentry keygen I got (it's supposed to generate non-developer keys), then I installed the 2011/3 DAS. But I could only install it like this because the 2011/3 DAS wouldn't install first. It kept complaining about no Xentry key present, no matter what I changed or what kind of key I put into Star Utilities, it just wouldn't accept it (though I heard that if you use a correct key you could install it first, but to me it only worked like this), and it refused to even start installing. And after install, the key was present and all I had to do was to apply Zolooka's 2011/3 Das patch, and that was it. I started up Xentry and it worked. Yaaay! To my surprise however I noticed that although the key I generated was not a developer key, but it opened up all the cars and buses and all the stuff the developer key does....I guess that must be because of that patch.
I hope this helps anyone else who encounters the 2221-1 error.
I'd like to add as a side-note that after installing the 2011/3 Das, the anti-virus software identified the commonlic.dll file I changed as a trojan and it quickly quarantined it without even asking first, so I had to restore the file and then disable Symantec anti-virus from the services.msc command line. Without that file there were no keys present in Star Utilities and it kept up showing an error :S

What about Xentry?

I'm sorry, I don't have it.

I tried this and not working. It could be because I'm using Xentry Diagnostics-program V 9.1.6, (2010-12-21) and DAS-program V 6.7.0.0, 2010-12-07
which probably doesn't have passtrough support already.
If someone has a workaround please share.

How can Xentry being newer than DAS not have passthrough support?

Common sense tells me it must have it but i believe you need a license. Cal.ini & slave.ini are not the only files you need to configure ceaser. Asam3d.ini has setting(s) to select the type of interface

As u can see T is selected but if you change it and run xentry, Xentry changes it back once you pass the "safety information" screen and recieve the error "No Selected Toolkit Device Available".Thats because the ASAM_3D_Server.dll looks for a license file Xentry.lic to see which device(s) are licensed to run with Xentry.

So i would assume you would have to Re-mortgage your house in order to purchase a valid license for the interface.

I made an video explaining how to install DAS & XENTRY 09-2010 following Zolookas text guide and tools.
It was made on Virtual machine but you can do it same way on your laptop or desktop.

01? Install Partition Manager.
02? Disable DVD drive so that you can get all letter for partitions correctly at first time.
03? Make Partitions.
04? Create account STAR.
05? Enable DVD drive.
06? Login using STAR account and prepare Install using Zolookas tools.
07? Place DAS key.**
08? Install DAS (long, long process just wait, even if you think its stuck :sleep: just wait... )
09? When you get the message Setup complete don't press the Finish button go back to
Zolookas folder and run after_installation.bat, only then press the Finish button.
10? Disable Automatic hotfix installation.
11? Disable Online Update BG service
12? Install Xentry & Activate
Here you must be around the computer because you need to delete one file from folder
F:\Programme\Xentry\bin Note that bin its an hidden folder so take precautions
before you start installation of Xentry, go to folder options and make them visible
so that you are able to delete the UserConfig.xml file once its created.

If you fail to do this, installation will never end and gets stuck with message creating folders and icons.
If it happens go to task manager and terminate process then repeat process of installation.

zockolas I follow the guide and video.

Look I have begun to install the package xentry das 03.2011

But following the video.

I get into the application starkey star manager utilities give DAS; apllicacion SAVE

I have requested the keys in the garage forum forum and have given me the keys to give, Lewis, xentry.

The case is set for the key you give to me as making it easier to key starkey appears select the application manager to give. Accepts both keys and the result sets. SAVE SUCESFULLY.
And even trying the keygen give the result is the same Save succesfully
Close the STAR UTILITIES.

You get in the DIRECTORY STARDIAG and run the SETUP

Begin the installation by selecting the language both Spanish and English
Puts checking your system.
And then see a window like in your video that says:

Setup has expeirneced an error

Please do the followinf:
Close***8230;
Empty yor temporaly folder
Check your internet connection
Then try to run setup again

(error code -6003)
I like the video pulse (0k) and makes continuous

star diagnosis setuo is cheking your system..

It takes a while and wait out the end of this window that says

Driver repair not successful, AppiD is even: 252
1.shut down system
2.make system free from tension (batteries and Ac adaptor) for 10 sec
3. resteat system and chek ***8220;xentry***8221; star key

And I do and nothing the same error

And hence the installation fails

Looks like you would not have a valid licence, obviously. Can you elaborate your preparations before you started the installation? Did you follow a specific guide and/or which tools did you use?

Platform? Windows XP SP3. Did you try it? What sort of errors occurred? If you did not try yet, perhaps you could use the old video for 09/2010 and we'll try to help with remaining errors, if any.
