The tech2 cards are intel series II+ so they are 5volt/12volt. That means you can write at 5 volts or 12 volts. The problem is that the tech 2 writes at 12 volts so you can't write to a 5volt/5volt card. You should be able to write with most laptop pcmcia drives.

Guys , just use an old laptop. I have an old Compaq PI with 166Mhz , it goes without problems. With the newer generation Laptos it does not work, because they no 12V to the PCMCIA card.

I don't know about aftermarket cards. Myfactory cards have a switch in the end of the card. Also my cards have to be written with 12 volts. They can read the card but not write back to them. Most newer laptops can't do this. I use an old Dell Latitude.

Pretty old stuff, but maybe not old enough to have a 12V PCMCIA.

The Tech2 also states the card is in write protect during initialization, but no switch to be found on the PCMCIA card.

You have 2 have the blue 32mb card to update to the latest software. The older black card is 10mb and doesn't have enough space for the new software bin file.

so i tried it and it overcomes the 12v not there issue
basically u run this then restart yr pc or lappy
on startup it wil ask u
start normally or cardware
if u choose cardwae it must reconfigure the pcmcia slot to do 12v or something

I just purchased a China clone Tech2 with GM and Izuzu PCMCIA cards. It's working fine, but I am not able to test the older 1998 - 2003 Isuzus. My supplier said that they don't have software for the older Isuzus.

I saw that you posted Tech2_Isuzu_V11.180_1996-2007, and have a few questions. Is this the software that I need? Will this work with a Clone Tech 2? And how can I copy this to a PCMCIA card?

I get the same error on 2 laptop on tried this on. One was an older Panasonic Toughbook and another an old Sony Viao. Not matter what parameters I changed the software would not load?

Just in case anyone interested - copy on CF card plus PCMCIA adapter doesn't work. I've tried cards and adapters pictured below (except cards were 64MB, not 32MB, because 32MB CISCO card has only 30.5MB actual capacity, TECH2 image can not be written on it).
Laptop sees CF card+adapter no problem, Memory Card Explorer recognizes, writes image, verifies written information no problem. But Tech2 doesn't see card at all, it says "no PCMCIA card detected". Two cards, two adapters - same result.
Considering that ready to go Tech2 PCMCIA card from China is under $20 nowadays, no sense to try troubleshot why CF+adapter doesn't work.

answer to all this is simple... you NEED a card reader/writer that can do Linear cards, also ALL WRITERS FROM ALI ARE ATA WRITERS
ALSO the card you need MUST BE A LINEAR CARD NOT ATA

old laptops with win98/xp you will have a chance to read and write them

here is something else, a 10mb bin file will write on a 32mmb card :congratulatory:

After two days of struggle I managed to run MCE 3.21 and correctly upload the image to Chinese Tech 2 card.

Dell Latitude D630 with PCMCIA reader - O2Micro OZ711EZ1
Windows XP Pro SP3

I confirm that D630, despite a message in MCE about another Vcc, is programming cards correctly.

buy a original one from ebay, dont use a clone, the early ones were good but these days they work a few times then its dead

The roms supplied by GM for Tech2 are not the same roms used in tech2win.I'm not talking about the bytes that tell tech2win whether the rom should run or not, there are significant differences between the roms of the same version.

So when members are requesting roms how do they know which tech2 it is intended for?
