i am having trouble programming clear dump.
upa usb reads mcu success
verify success.
but the problem is when i want to program the clear data to MCU.
when i press the program button. i get write error.
i try with security bytes , and with out security bytes.

Mask == 3k85k
is there a step that i am missing?
here is the steps that i am taking.
lift pin PTA0
connect to pin out HC08AS20 PLCC52
press Auto Buad rate, if success go to next step
read
verify
program.
those are the steps right?

Steps are ok, but when I did similar unit from Corvette (as was mentioned above), with MCU 3K85K inside, I lifted IRQ and RESET to read/write it without problems... :)

Corvette has a different board than Colorado though. These GM mods are very tricky to do. To make life easier, take the MCU out and do it that way.

Did you remember to solder a crystal to the mcu xtal pins?

best place is to salvage them from some used electronics. I believe you will want a 4mhz for that mcu, but you can try different ones.
check google images for "oscillator crystal"
here's an example Unstable Crystal Oscillator (http://www.jestineyong.com/?p=1452)
If you read in circuit, it will use the crystal on the board since you won't lift the xtal pins. If you read out of circuit, you have to solder a crystal to the xtal pins (unless you resolder the chip on an adapter made for your programmer that has a crystal in it's circuit). I just got my upa-usb and haven't played with it yet so not sure where the settings are in the software, but there should be a setting to match the xtal frequency. xprog-m has the xtal setting, but unfortunately, xprog-m doesn't work well with the 908.

does any one know where i could buy a adapter for MCU PLCC52, 3K85K,
adapter for UPA USB.
or is it better just to read these MCU's on board?

Bump, help me out with post #15
lwood,
I haven't been around this forum as long as you have. I haven't been around module programming as long as you have either.
What I had hoped to find in this forum is a group of people who like to help each other and contribute ... not for fame, not for "thanks", but because they actually enjoy helping others and participating. I'm happy to say that I have found other people here like me who fit that description. We can joke, have fun, and help each other without expecting anything in return.
I PM'd you a few weeks back asking for a password for a file for a civic, because I had broken my chip trying to remove it. You could have given it to me, but you didn't. I really was surprised that you wouldn't help me out with that.
Putting your snub behind me, I helped you in this thread anyway. I really don't care about "thanks," but astonishingly, for someone like you who rattles people to get them to hit the thanks button, claps for his own thread, asks people to rate his thread, I have to say I am surprised you don't subscribe to your own philosophy by giving thanks to others.
On top of that, as experienced as you are, it seems like you aren't taking the time to learn or understand what you are doing, or even to research before asking. Google and the search button for this forum will give you a wealth of information.
Anyway, GM makes different modules with different MCUs, and they come in different size packages. Some have more pins than others, and some have different style pins, even for the same series MCU (e.g. 52 vs 64 pins). Some you may have luck in circuit, some you may not. Some the circuit holds some pins high, some low. All this makes for trickier in-circuit programming if you don't take the time to learn what you are doing. The general consensus is you will get a more reliable read out of circuit. Also, you can do it without thinking much.
I googled "UPA-USB programming adapters" for you and found the following: Adapter for UPA-USB (http://www.ecuvonix.com/adapters-upausb-p-323.html)
You will notice, they have those shiny oscillator crystals on the adapter. You can do it without the adapter. The adapter doesn't do much other than make the connections easier for you.
No need to hit the thanks button.

Lawdag1, u are right man. U help someone and he doesnt even say thanx or at least say if the solution worked. That sucks. Genuine members are obsolete................
