I need to do a conversion on a car from Canada (KPH). The Audi instrument cluster is made by Bosch and marked RB4. Any advice on this conversion. Seen online that the dash has a 24c08 on the front side of the cluster. I know this car probably has Immobilizers (key codes). Can I just unsolder the eeprom out of the original KPH dash and solder it into the used/recycled MPH cluster that I purchase from a local yard?

no you cannot resolder eeprom because the calibration of the needles is diferent. in kmh top centre is 130 kmh and in the mph tacho is 100 kmh so your tacho will lie about 17 mph. You need to buy a tacho with a scale you need and someone or me will help you with the calibration. Of course you need to read and write eeprom.

Possible to extract the immobilizer and write onto the replacement cluster?

more easy way is to put other ciferblat and recalibrate
dont forget thanks

Okay please explain. ciferblat??
I already have the OEM KPH dash taken apart and I read the 24c08 EEPROM. The vehicle shows 157,686 kilometers, and I will need to make the replacement MPH cluster read approx 97,986 miles. What about the key codes/immo?
OEM cluster is - 8E0 920 900H

just give me the two reads and the max reading of each rpm and mph needles and I will give you a correct dump

Lockwoods in Leeds uk
they make a dial sheet for conversion, thats the quickest way.

Okay I am waiting on the used cluster to show up tomorrow. I can post the other dump then.

Well I am in the USA, and the used cluster only cost me $40 USD shipped to my shop. For someone purchasing this car they will want it to read in miles NOT KPH

Okay finally the other cluster showed up and I got a chance to get it apart.
The KPH cluster has a 0-8000 rpm tachometer, but 7(000) RPM is the last digit on the overlay. The speedometer goes from 0-260 kph. The dump is below labeled 02A4_KPH and displayed 157,686 KM
The MPH cluster has the same 0-8000 rpm tachometer with 7000 RPM as the last printed digit on the overlay. The speedometer goes from 0-160 MPH. The dump below is labeled 02A4_MPH and it displayed 121,810 miles (VAG # 8E0 920 950H). I would like to get the miles as close to 97,986 miles (157,686 KM)
I had a question on the Immo? Will the codes be transferred over to the new dash board or will I have to find someone with a VAG COM to reprogram the keys to the replacement cluster?

just change coding in dash with diagnostic
Coding

+00 = 1. K-Number (Europe/USA/Rest of World)
+01 = Smaller Fuel Tank Volume (All-Wheel-Drive)
+02 = Seatbelt Warning (NAR old - up to 45/2004)
+04 = 3. K-Number (Rental Cars)
+08 = 2. K-Number (Australia)

Don't know enough about these cars and don't have a VAG COM handy. Was hoping I could do everything I needed by reading and writing the 24c08 eeprom

easier to make a diagnosis using, if you broken dump 24c08, the car will not start at all.
china clone vag-com price 20-30 usd

Yes you need to do coding of the dash with vag com of course, but you will never change speed needle calibration through coding. Just have a look what speed you see in top of the dash?
Just swap the ciferblates write the file and do coding with vag-com or anything that can code vag.

Sorry if I am slow to learn. What you are saying is keep the original electronic board/motors/etc that came out of the vehicle and just use the overlay (ciferblates) from the MPH dash that I purchased?
If that is what you are saying I shouldn't have to program any keys because they are already in there. However the display is KM how do I change it to miles? Can I do that in the EEPROM dump?

it's a waste of time to choose this way....the easiest way to do this job...recode the original dash using vcds to display miles insted of km....fahrenheit degrees instead of celsius...change the scale using scale in mph from new(used) dash...adjust impulses per miles in adaptation...1 hour job....without risk and headache...where are you located ?

You must compare the mph to the kph dials
If they are EXACTLY equal throughout the range then YES
otherwise you need a replacement recalibrated sheet from Lockwood international in Leeds. England.
[not just 100kph equal to 60mph, but check low speed and high speed are equal]

I already transfered the calibration of needles in eeprom that I atached, so write this 24c08 in your original dash, put the miles scale in it, and do coding with vcds. Easy job.

It is not necesary to use recalibrated sheet it can be done in eeprom!

I did 1 on a 2006 passat with autoboss pc max, you just go to coding section chose your country put your code and write job done. :motz:

but how can you see MPH? [I assumed dials are marked only in kph, unlike mph version which has both mph and kph]

did a lot of them and this is good known isue for me. just swaping the dials and changing calibration in eeprom. Need to do the calibration because dials speed reading is diferent it lies in the midle about 30 kmh.
And how did the dial show miles per hour?

in passat dial readings are in same places in all audi is diferent, so passat is easy job! audi needs advanced skills

I look forward to seeing the resolution of this problem by diagnostic means, seeing is believing.
ps
What are "advanced skills" then?

there is no solution by diagnostic, you need to transfer calibration editing eeprom with hex editor.

I would like to thank everyone who helped with this thread. I switched over the gauge overlay MPH to the original KPH instrument cluster. I did write the EEPROM 24c08 with the calibration changes that aivarys put in the file that he emailed me. I then was able to use my Autel Maxidas DS708 to code the original instrument cluster to US and it reads miles now in the odometer display and the temperature display changed to ?F instantly.
THANKS EVERYONE I guess I was trying to make this job more complicated than it actually was
