you could use it as a server if you have a cable card also (if you know how to do it ,but if you have little experience you will find it difficult) but discussion of these topics are not allowed .google is your friend mate .by the way if your using a dm500c as a satellite server (which will work) you wont be able to view the channels on that box.

Anyone successfully flashed with an USB-serial adaptor? I've tried using one but can't get it to work. Without dreambox, the drivers installed fine. After running dreamup and clicked on connect, the com port goes intermittent after I switch on the dreambox power.
Tried other versions of dreamup and it's still the same.

piopat
6th December, 2010, 08:21 PM
all you will have after flashing dm500s box are all the fta channels (on satellite),likewaise with a dm500c (on cable)what the other guys are talking about is using a dm500c as a server rather than throwing it in the bin.
if people only want their cable xhannels back all they need to do is buy either a kryptview a780 or a starview 6 and flash them with the required firmware (do a scan ) and attach the box to their broadband router .
if your wanting pay satellite channels you need to read up on cardsharing ,however its not a topic that is allowed on this forum so thats about as much as i can say.

Is it possible to use a crossover cable instead of a null modem cable, thee seems to be conflicting opinion on whether it is a good idea?
How Do I Use Dreamup?
If, for any reason, your box won't boot, you will have to use Dreamup to flash an image instead of Flash Wizard Pro or any other method. You won't be able to connect via ethernet so no ip address is required. It may be that the process simply hung up during flashing or you accidentally pulled the plug half way through (yes it did happen to me). This will get you back on track.
Required
Null Modem Cable (this is NOT the same as a serial or rs232 cable, although it looks the same)
Image File (.img) or a (.nfi) file
DreamUp Program
Instructions
Disconnect all cables from your dreambox, including the power
Connect the null modem cable to the dreambox and to your PC
Load Dreamup.exe
Click Connect and you will see a message like this
http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/1434/dreamup1fv2.jpg
Connect the power and the bootloader should be copied to the box
The message should now say 'Box attached and Ready'
Click Flash on the right hand side and select the image to be flashed
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5605/dreamup2tc0.jpg
Click Yes or Ya (depending on the version)
Note: If you're flashing a backup image, select NO.
The image should then be uploaded to the box
There will be a countdown timer at the bottom of the program
http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/9351/dreamup3kk2.jpg
After the image is uploaded, it will be flashed to memory
The finished process should look like this:
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/2238/dreamup4ka6.jpg
Click OK and close down Dreamup
Power off the dreambox for 30 seconds then power up
If any errors appear, check all cables are connected properly and repeat the process but do not use the PC while it's running
Good Luck!

hi i am trying to use Dreamup to flash my DM500C with USB-to-serial connection with a null modem cable.
May I ask how long do i need to wait after I power up my dreambox? I have waited for a few minutes but there is no 'Box attached and Ready' message. Hence, I wasn't able to flash my dreambox.
piopat
5th January, 2011, 05:01 PM
a usb to serial adaptor requires whats called a driver which you install on your pc (the driver is a bit of software that simply put helps your pc to see the box so it can send the new image to it) the driver either comes on a disk (which you get with the adaptor) or if you got no disk you have to go online and download a suitable driver .if you dont have a driver you need to get one or the pc wont be abe to see the box. you may have a driver installed on your pc and may still find that the pc cant see the box ,if so this is most likely because your pc runs on windows vista and vista is incompatable with most if not all usb to serial adaptor drivers .i was unable to find a suitable driver that would work with vista so in the end i bought an older second hand dell desktop pc (it has 2 usb ports and 2 9 pin serial ports) and all it cost was 50 euros ,i can connect the null modem cable direct to my desktop and flash any box.

hi i am trying to use Dreamup to flash my DM500C with USB-to-serial connection with a null modem cable.
May I ask how long do i need to wait after I power up my dreambox? I have waited for a few minutes but there is no 'Box attached and Ready' message. Hence, I wasn't able to flash my dreambox.
ok, i think i have found out the answer for myself.
i have found an older PC with a serial port.
after I switched on my DM500C, it took only about 5 seconds for me to get the 'Box attached and Ready' message. I tried to flash it using the latest Dreamup software from the offical Dream website but it couldn't work. However, I have success with flashing using another Dreamup version 1.3.3.1 which I got from someone else.
Below is the link to Dreamup 1.3.3.1:
DreamUP_1_3_3_1.exe (http://www.mediafire.com/?crevo9lxaf0ven8)
By the way, it took about 12 min for the flashing to complete.
I had no success earlier on with my 2 laptops running on Windows XP using a USB-to-Serial adaptor. Attached is the pic of the adaptor that I used.
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4820/usbtors2321.jpg
I was told by the storekeeper he had feedback from buyers that this model may not work and recommend me to buy another more expensive model. Hence, for future buyers of adaptor, perhaps it might be wiser to get a more expensive one.
piopat
5th January, 2011, 05:52 PM
if the problem is with the drivers being incompatable a more expensive adaptor will make no difference . the adaptor is not at fault its the drivers incompatability to vista that is the problem ,xp laptops can suffer with the same problem. using a desktop with dreamup (for flashing )works 100% on all boxes ,all tho it can be slow flashing that way .newer dreamboxes such as a dm800 can be flashed via web browser which takes only about 4 minutes ,however flashing a dm500 you need the dreamup way or maybe ftping an image to the /temp folder may work.

i recommend that if your going to reflash a dm500/change the image that you do perform a flash erase first .open dreamup and look just above where you see flash and you will see flash erase (click on that to erase the current image )and then flash the box as normal. newer versions of dreamup may not have the flash erase option (as when the newer boxes such as the dm800 are reflashed the new image overwrites the old ) so when using a dm500 to flash erase or if you have the message aborted by user you will need an older version of dreamup such as dreamup 1.3.2.1 .

well done gerry the error message "aborted bu user " is usually because the wrong version of dreamup is being used ,you have to remember that there are newer versions of dreambox such as dm800hd and dm500hd and newer versions of dreamup specificly for flashing them.

@Piopat
good to know that dreamup is model specific ...if you have a list of models to s/w versions i think you will save a lot of panic attacks and grey hairs
@sipvox (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/members/230278-sipvox/) & mtv1
some feedback on flashing with dream up ...
i had used dcc to change my dm500s from gemini 4.70 to pli jade (3 ver june 2009 ).. but it looked like i was using a lot of onboard storage for this ..
i then used dreamup because this specifically mentions erasing before flashing (not the great idea i thought it was)
what ever you do .. do not click the "flash erase" button... if you have the wrong version of dreamup - it will still erase the flash (thats what happened to me), and you are left with a brick until you can find the correct version
if you make a note of your dm box's ip address before making any changes .. flashing over serial cable takes a few minutes ... flashing over the serial cable & network connection at the sametime takes only a few seconds.
everyone has a reason for flashing and mine was (and still is)
trying to find an image that is up to date and well documented for a newbie
1-
gemini 4.70
-doesnt appear to like me trying to record to shared hdd on my pc from my "silver style" remote control
- i suspect my dm500s is a clone and read somewhere of little surprise timebombs
2-
pli jade 3 ver june 2009
- doesnt appear to have a good way to stream from pc to dm .. doesnt have a plugin for vlcf
if anyone can recommend an up to date dm500 image that is geared to uk users i would appreciate it

for my DM800HD, i still not solve it yet although i strictly follow the steps given.. i don't know why.. it is still "connection prepared. now switch on your dreambox". If i switch off my dreambox, i will lost the COM2 or any COM that is plan to be use for flashing. I use the Null Modem Cable that connected to USB to Serial Adapter to my notebook. However, without the adapter, it did not detect or use any COM. If I use null modem cable DB9 female to USB (notebook), then it detected as "Unknown USB device" and asking for driver which cannot be found anywhere in the forum or websites.

Don't mind them bullies on here. I'll fix that MTV for you don't
you worry about that. MTV is sound he's just getting too big for

longer than he is. I'll e-mail him later & put him in his place. I
had to take a senior member to task here lately for bullying a

Now what about your problems BIGBOY, you're a bit of a bully

i know usb to serial adaptors can be troublesome because the drivers dont work well if at all with vista . but usually if the flashing process starts (even for just a few seconds) and you have the error aborted by user message thats a good sign that a different version of dreamup will work . you could try a desktop computer and null modem cable that will work every time , you dont say what dreambox you have but you may be able to flash via web browser or ftp or telnet the image in to a dm500s .

Hi All,
I've went to SLS to purchase a null-modem cable.
As below,
http://img254.imageshack.us/f/nullmodemcable.jpg/
But once i power up more dreambox, nothing pop up and the bar is not running. Why is that so? Im quite confused with null modem cable and serial cable. On the packaging itself , is called as serial cable Female/Female. I've tried plugging into my PC and dreambox. it fits.. but the only thing is it can;t connect.
Pls advise.

in store they only sell null cable cross or straight
to correct what i mean is
The correct one "null modem" is cross configured RX/TX and thats what is required. A standard RS232 cable will be straight through.

I was having the same issues as yours the first time and thought have bought the wrong cable or dreamup was not compatible with win 7.
What i do for it to work is to start dreamup with the power unplug from the box. Once press connect on dreamup, then i start to plug in the power cable to the box. Maybe you could try this and ensure is a null modem cable.

Hi, thanks for great guide. I've tried using Dreamup but I got stuck right after "loading flasher" or something like that. Dreamup was able to detect my dreambox 500 as recorded in the log box below the program.
It stayed there for bat 20 mins and couldn't proceed. I've tried dreamup ver. 1.2.2, 1.3.3.0 to 1.3.3.3 and .3.3.7 none of them works.
Anyone can help? I got a null cable frm eBay but can't confirm if it's one.

if your laptop / pc has a 9 pin connection you only need a null modem cable to flash the box ,if your laptop / pc does not have the 9 pin connection you need a usb to serial adaptor that connects to the null modem cable .
usb to serial adaptors require you to install a bit of software called a driver in your pc ,in simple terms the driver helps the pc see your box (and vice versa) via the adaptor but in my experience windows vista is just about incompatable with the usb to serial adaptor drivers ,in which case if your box is a dm500 you will need to find a desktop pc (with the 9 pin connection ) to flash your box .
newer boxes such as a dm800 can be flashed via web browser .

If it identifies it then you need to click flash. Browse to the file you want to load to it then it will flash it to the box.

you dont say what box you have (this info helps as you may have alternatives ) all being well (when using dreamup) dreamup will recognise your box (example it will say dm500 etc) and all being well the log box will say power up /plug in your box . if dreamup doesnt say now power up your box i assume your using a usb to serial adaptor which is very problematic.

when you plug the box does it say anything in the log box ? ,i think your problem is the usb adaptor (its hard if not impossible to get them to work with windows vista ) try and get the use of an old desktop computer and connect the box to it using just the null modem cable .
you could also try flashing the box via telnet (have a look at this thread )

Good Luck!

Hi Guys.
First of all I?m a complete newbie writing this post for two reason first any quick guidance but mainly to allow me to download what I think may be a valid solution to my problem; a jtag. Any advice is very welcome, I don?t want to come across lazy as I am determined to find a solution on my own if need be and perhaps this jtag download guide may well be the solution.
Problem
I have basically killed my box (dm500) via flashwizard6.3 and uploading an image which locked up at 84%. The box now is not responsive via remote or in terms of what it puts out on the tv which is a black screen. If unplugged and plugged back in the green light of front of box will illuminate for about 5 mins before going out completely. I basically cannot now install an image via the network method as the box has no identify (ip etc)
what I have tried
I have tried various versions of dream up to no avail using the usb/null cable method the consistent statement coming from all versions is ?connection prepared, now switch on the dreambox!? I power up the dm500 and nothing happens.
Many thanks

Use an old PC or laptop with rs-232 port. Use null-modem
cable ONLY. Use Dream-up 1.3.2.1 & image should flash to
box alright. USB-rs232 cables are very problematic with Dream-up software. Some will work, but most won't & you must have precise drivers to enable USB-rs232 cable to function properly with Dream-up software. If 1.3.2.1 does not
work try 1.3.2.4 or others. J-tag can be very daunting & does not always solve the problem

Hi,
I am a new member and also very new to this Dreambox. I have just bought a DM500c. When i go into Setup, it ask me for the password. So i check with the seller but he said that the Dreambox is being lock by the main supplier and they wouldn't know the password too.
Can i use this method to delete this lock?

mate there should be no password/pin number on a new box (your seller is talking through his ass ) if the box is locked and he wont help you send it back . there is a default password on most boxes such as 0000 ,but the box is never locked when you buy it .also you should be aware (if you live in the uk or ireland ) a dm500c is of little use to you unless you know some one that has a private cable server .
ive worked on many boxes that have never been locked by a default password ,a box is only locked once the owner changes the default password .

How are you, Pio, good to see you on. Thought we had lost you to the "brain drain". Do you ever look thru SG-Sta*hub thread. You
would be a big addition to that thread (DM500 & DM800HD). There
are some very Hi-Tech members in that region & if you & them got
your heads together the outcome could be very interesting.
I suspect HowPeter is in SG-region. Traders over there often lock
boxes before selling them on. Punters then have to pay trader to
upgrade box when encryption type changes. If Peter flashed new
image using Dream-up That would remove menu-lock. As you say,
Pio, in Eire/UK he will need cable-server & would be better to return box & get DM500s box. No trouble finding Sat-servers.
In SG-region DM500c works fine as they still use Nagra1 type encryption.

hi eamo mate as you say peter could reflash the box and then the pin lock wouldnt be an issue ,but as you say he still would need access to a cable server . the satellite option using a dm500s (atleast for me ) is a better option as at worst you always have all the free to air channels .

heres a couple of options you can look at
http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f34/guide-flash-backup-image-via-telnet-760/
Howto Flash via the root.cramfs method
It means that you use the network connection (or crossover cable) to FTP the image to your Dreambox and to flash it manually.
This way is only supported by the CDK boxes or what are also called Engima 1 boxes.
the DM500, the DM56xx and the DM7000
When you have an UTP (LAN) connection between your PC and Dreambox, do the following:
1.Rename the image into root.cramfs (in small letters)
2.Copy this root.cramfs with a FTP-software to your Dreambox in the subdirectory /var/tmp
3.Push on the Dream or Menu button on your remote control to get into the Enigma menu
4.Go to the System Settings menu and choose the Software update
Now choose Software update where you will see 2 possibilities:
1.Internet update
2.Manual update
Now you choose the last option (Manual Update).

Null Modem Cable (this is NOT the same as a serial or rs232 cable, although it looks the same)
Bit of help needed here, I've seen websites that sell dreamboxes selling RS232 cables. I'm confused now as to if I have the right cable?

5th September, 2011, 02:48 PM
a null modem cable has a 9 pin connection at both ends and it connects direct to the box and also can connect direct to a computer that has the same 9 pin connection that is on the back of the box . a desktop computer will allmost always have the correct 9 pin connection but a laptop in most cases will not have the 9 pin connection ,hence you then require a usb to serial adaptor . you connect the serial end of the adaptor to the null modem cable ,you would then connect the null modem end to your box and the usb end to your computer .
a usb to serial adaptor requires a bit of software called a driver ,the easiest way to explain why the driver is needed is that the driver helps the computer see the adaptor if the computer cant see the adaptor the cable wont work . the usb to serial adaptor can come with a disk which contains the driver which you install on your computer or you may have to go online and download the driver .
the problem is that windows vista is incompatable with most if not all of the drivers available ,so you may find it impossible to flash your box that way . if all you have is a laptop that does not have the 9 pin conection (and runs on vista ) you may have serious problems flashing your box ,a desktop computer will work maybe your kids have an old desktop computer or you have a friend who has one that you can use for about 15 minutes . there are one or 2 other methods that can be used to flash your box that are a bit more technical.

before flashing a dm800 you must know what sim and bootloader version your box is ,most newer clones are sim 2.01 bootloader 75 or 76 (BL75 OR BL76 ) newer boxes are ssl82 . so before flashing your box connect it up and power it up and see if it has an image (an image is the tv software ) if it has an image you can watch the free to air channels .
now to see what particular image you have power off the box (there is a switch at the rear of the box ) and power it back on ,now look at the tv screen and it should say the name of the image such as dreamelite or blackhole /or the GP (the gemini project) or pli etc (if the box has no image you will need to give the boxan image and this is called flashing the box .next you want to know what sim and bootloader version your box is ,so power off the box (via the switch ) and then power it back on and look at the little lcd screen at the front of the box and it will display certain info including the sim and bootloader versions of your box .
so simply put if the lcd display says your box is sim 2.01 and bootloader 76 (BL76) you need an image with the same sim and bootloader versions .if you cant find an image to suit your box before taking a chance and using the wrong image read as many threads as you can on this forum (to find an image ) or ask a senior member on this forum if they can point you to where you can download a suitable image for your box .

Dear Devilfish,
I tried to connect my laptop to my dm but it is not connected. I waited for a long time also. Currently my DM cannot boot up it is just showing me a wallpaper of a car. Nothing is happening tried to unplug the power supply on and off but it's useless. My remote control also cannot off my DM nothing is working. My DM do not have a off button just a standby button.
Pls advice . I just bought it only from an aquaintance which I think cheated me.

if your using a usb to serial cable connected to a null modem cable you need a driver ,a driver is software which either comes on a disk with the usb to serial cabe or you have to go online and download it . to put it simply the driver software helps your pc see your dreambox ,without the driver your pc cant see your dreambox.also as mtv says make sure you have the correct version of dreamup ,some say dreamup is universal (the neweset versions maybe )but not the older versions .

I have box (DVB 500) which says the tool to be used is DVBup .I think this ia OEM or duplicate from China. If this is same as DM500? any ideas? .
I was just playing around with the communication setup when it suddenly crashed and failed to boot . my bad.
Nothing is coming up on the screen i.e. it is not booting . There is a green LED on the box . so i think it is a good sign.
after reading through the post i feel i need to reflash the image.
should i use Dreamup to reflash the image ? which version of Dreamup should i use?
If Dreamup downloads the relevant image automatically when it detects the version of the box? if not, then which image should be flashed and where I can find this image.?
help me please

some times images fail because they are in some way corrupt ,so the best thing to do is change the image . you can download the correct version of dreamup from the last link of my signature area (i marked it for use with a dm500s ) also you can download an image from the same link the image is called nabilo maxvar v8 .

there is a 9 pin port on the rear of the dm500s if your computer/laptop has the same 9 pin connection all you need is a null modem cable . if your computer/laptop does not have the 9 pin connection you will need a usb to serial adaptor ,the adaptor connects to the null modem cable giving you a null modem end to connect to the dm500s and a usb end to connect to your computer/laptop .
however this can be very problematic ,the usb to serial adaptor requires a driver to be installed on your pc (simply put the driver which either comes with the adaptor on a disk or has to be downloaded online is software which helps your pc see your box) however windows vista is incompatable with most drivers so you may find you cant flash your box this way .
a simple sollution is to get the use of an older desktop pc which more than likely will have the correct 9 pin connection ,then all you need is a null modem cable .

my final question does all this stuff acutually flash the box to view all the sky channels and do i need to connect my ethernet cable afterwards with my modem after i have completed all those steps thanks
you do connect the box to the internet using an ethernet cable but just flashing the box wont give you the sky channels . flashing the box only gives you all the free to air channels .
in order to get the sky channels you need whats called a c line ,just so you understand here is an example of what a c line might look like
C:pdiddy.dyndns.org 12000 user20 share20
(the above c line does not work its just an example)
a c line is not free you have to buy it from whats called a payserver this is called cardsharing , the payserver charges say about ?120 a year for all the channels as opposed to sky charging about ?700 .thats as much as i can say on this topic as cardsharing talk is not allowed on the forum .if you have further questions on this side of things you can pm me if you like .

you need to get your box first and flash it (if you have problems here let me know ) then connnect it to your router ,before you can run you have to learn to walk . when you have done this get back to me ,but if your questions are about cardsharing do it via pm so you dont break forum rules .

BOX ALIVE & SPEAKING TO US means dream-up version is OK and your cable is good. Com-port selection is also correct.
When using dream-up always say NO(nein) to FLASH-ERASE.
It appears something on your working image is causing a conflict
with dream-up loader. You could un-install any add-ons that are
not vital on your image & then try back-up again
Might be worth a shot to try USE NETWORK option on Dream-Up
Connect null modem AND LAN-cable to box
Tick USE NETWORK box & use following settings;
Local IP(pc)----use router IP if box connected direct to router
----use PC-lan IP if box connected direct to PC
Remote IP(box)----use dreambox IP
Don't go near option SELECT ONE
Select correct comport setting, then hit CONNECT
If Network settings are correct box will flash in under 3 mins
If flash takes 12-15 mins, network settings are incorrect
As always DO NOT power-up box until prompted by Dream-Up.

When you select BACK-UP option using Dream-Up the complete

Using dreamup v1.3.3.4 on win 7 and so far so good and also you can use usb to serial converter if yr computer doesn't have the rs232 port. Take note though not all converter are compatible with the dreambox.

if someone has problems using a usb to serial adaptor its not the fault of the dreambox ,its down to the drivers required .simply put drivers are are a software that either come with the adaptor on a disk or you download it and install them on your pc ,the drivers then help your computer see and communicate with your box .the problem is that most usb to serail adaptor drivers (if not all ) are incompatable with windows vista and they even have a problem on more laptops with windows xp .
if you have a laptop with the same 9 pin connection that is on the back of the box (or a desktop computer with the same conection )you dont need a a usb to serial adaptor and wont have to worry about incompatable drivers.

C-line is a set of digits entered in Cccam/cfg by user to enable

a dm500c is for cable (the c stands for cable) so the dm500c will be of no use unless you have access to a private cable server and even then you likely wont be using cccam .

Would recommend D.K.1.1 or older PLI-Jade image as newer Pli-Jade images have limited range of Symbol Rates in Auto-Scan mode
In SG/Sta*hub areas Dreambox will clear channels if using correct

Never claim to be an expert but if you cannot get green led to light up you either need to J-tag Dreambox or replace faulty component

Sorry about all the versions but some suit one box & not another. DM500 & DM800 are most popular boxes & most
software etc. is designed for popular Dreamboxes.
Most important when using Dream-Up to ensure correct com/port is selected & Image chosen is compatible with your Dreambox i.e. bootloader etc on image matches box types
When you find correct version of Dream-Up for your box you could try "select network" method when flashing box. It takes less than 3 mins. You need both LAN & null-modem cables

Jedi, think you are UK based. If you had DM500s boxes with Sat-dish there are many ser*ers for C/S at around 100-150 per year. Your boxes are DM500c, so you need a cable server for UK.

Yes just follow tutorial to the letter. You may have to try several
diff versions of Dream-UP to find compatible version for your box
Think 1.3.1.0 version suits a lot of DM500c clone boxes

Anyone heard abt 501-c? Claim to be better than 500-c. But got no ethernet port and the rs232 is female instead of male.

if it has no ethernet port you cant cardshare (unless you use a device simillar to what kryptview used called an i connector, and i dont know if that works on a dm500c),i think if you can get access to a cable server and if your advised to get a dreambox get a dm500c .

Better to do it on a desktop pc with a null modem cable.
Those converters are not the best and dont always work.
Visit OpenPLi - Open Source Set-Top Box Software (http://openpli.org/) for your image or our download base.
You might need this software

Download Dreamup 1.3.3.4 thats the most popular and add an ethernet cable with the null modem cable it will speed the flash process.
Dont always work first time might take a minute might take an hour to get a connection.
Patience is the key and try other versions of Dreamup if 1.3.3.4 doesnt work.

obviously your box is stuck with a permanent green light so the only option is to change the image ,the image is the name for the tv software . you dont say what dreambox you have but as your asking for a .img file i have to assume your box is a dm500s .
as andy says usb to serial adaptors dont always work .what that means in simple terms is a usb adaptor needs a bit of software called a driver (which is installed on a computer ) and again simply put the driver allows the computer to see the box and communicate with it .however the newer laptops these days run on windows vista and in my experience vista is incompatable with most drivers . some people have found one that works but from my experience ive never found one that works .
so as andy says the easiest way forward is to use a desktop computer as they will have the same 9 pin connection that you have on the back of your box ,and all you would need is a null modem cable and no need for a usb adaptor or drivers .
perhaps your kids have an old desktop computer ,or maybe a friend or family member ,you would only need it for about 15 minutes .you can download the image and dream up to a usb memory stick which you then stick into the desktop computer .
there is another method the root crampfs method but i think if your struggling using a desktop would be the best sollution . if you need a tutorial i can direc you to one .

i assume your box is a dm800 or simillar if you have the no ca error message it means you have used an image with the wrong bootloader version for your box .
power the box off via the switch at the rear ,then power it back on and look at the little lcd display on the front . it will display various info such as sim version and bootloader version ,if for example it says sim 2.01 bootloader 76 then you need an image with the very same sim and bootloader versions .

After previous post I managed to download DreamUP zip file, is that correct for DM500-S
piopat
7th June, 2012, 08:45 PM
thats what you need ,as its a .zip file you have to open it (its what we call unzipping the file) so you need a program called peazip or winrar to unzip this file .once unzipped you will be able to see dream up proper ,then you connect a null modem cable to both your box and your compter and open dream up and flash your box .you will need to download a suitable image .

What is the best way to get ccam onto DM500?
piopat
22nd August, 2012, 03:45 AM
you can usually install it using the remote control , that means if you have a suitable image (an image is the name for the tv software) and your box is connected to your router then you can install cccam that way .
however again with a suitable image you can use dream control center to FTP (ftp means to send a file ) cccam into your box .

Hi, I am new here. My blackbox 888 had hang. No image and the LED is on. Anyway to fix it. I try to connect my ethernet to the box set but cant get any connection...pls advice...
piopat
26th August, 2012, 03:04 PM
that box is the same as a dreambox dm500 ,if you cant connect via ethernet that leaves one alternative which is you need to use a null modem cable and dreamup to flash the box .
a null modem cable connects to the 9 pin connection on the rear of the box ,your computer needs to have the same 9 pin connection so you can connect the null modem cable to it . if your computer has no 9 pin connection you will need a usb to serial adaptor ,in effect this connects to your null modem cable giving a null modem end for your box and a usb end for your computer .
when using a usb to serial adaptor you need whats called a driver ,simply put this is software (which you download) that helps your computer see and speak with your box ,if you have no driver the usb to serial adaptor wont work .
in my experience its very difficult if not impossible to find a driver that will work on newer computers especially those running on windows vista . i personally gave up searching for a driver and bought a second hand desktop computer ,most desktops have the same 9 pin connection that you have on the rear of your box so then all you need is the null modem cable and no adaptor or driver is required . so if you have access to a desktop computer thats better ,or maybe you know someone familly or friend that has one .

Was trying to do a backup using Dreamup 1.3.3.9 and connecting the Dreambox to my router, but it was not detected by Dreamup.
I checked "use network" and inserted the relevant IP addresses. Dreamup stays at "connection prepared, now switch on dreambox"
Am currently using a clone DM 800 HD (non-SE). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have a Dreambox DM500S.
It used to work fine an I have flashed it successfully via ethernet using FlashWizard Pro before. Last time I did this using an OpenPLI image, it hanged during the Writing and verifying Cramfs partition.
So I connected it via Null Modem cable using a Serial to USB cable adapter. (Drivers for this adapter are installed)
DreamUp doesn't seem to recognise the Dreambox when I power it up.
I tried using Putty to connect to it also using the Null cable and I do get a connection using 120000 as baud rate (which is a bit of strange speed setting).
This way I cam change boot parameters and access the bootloader menu where I can set IP addresses and select a boot method, etc. I'm trying to avoid the NFS booting way for now as it's not that straight forward.
Any ideas why DreamUp won't recognize my Dreambox?
Thanks in advance =)

He did a reset as the channel keeps hanging. There is noting wrong with the machine, I suppose as when i plug it in my room, it works perfectly fine.

if the box is hanging (stuck) while trying to start up then id say your image (thats the tv software ) has become faulty or corrupt ,so i suggest you change the image thats what we call flashing . i assume its a dreambox (as this is a dreambox thread ) but what model dreambox have you got ? .

ok heres some thing you can try (your Dreambox must be connected to your router) and you will need to download and setup dream control center, you can download it from this link
4shared - My 4shared - shared folder - free file sharing and storage (http://www.4shared.com/dir/boPK5x59/sharing.html)
and you can find instructions on setting up dream control center in the following link in mtv1 tutorial
http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f39/dreambox-control-center-setup-dcc-224608/
obviously if the dcc or the image are zip or rar files you will need to unzip/unrar them .
once you have dream control center downloaded and setup do the following:
1. Rename the image into root.cramfs (in small letters) all you do is click on the image name one time to highlight it then right click on it and you will see options (click on rename )
2. now open dream control center and click on FTP (bottom left corner of the screen),now you should see two big boxes of files ,the box on the left contains files in your dreambox and the box on the right contains files in your computer ,and in between the boxes are two little arrows one points left the other points right . so in the box on the left double click on the file called var ,then double click on the file called tmp . now look in the box on the right and find the root.cramfs file and click on it once to highlight it ,now look between the boxes and click on the little arrow pointing left (that should send the file into the box on the left ,if it does that means the file is in your box ) if you get a message saying this file allready exists do you want to over write ? just say yes .then you can close dcc .
3. the next part you do with your dreambox remote ,menus can vary a little from image to image but hopefully you wont have any trouble . i use nabilo image and this is how i would do it ,press the Menu button on your remote control ,then press number 6 (setup) ,then choose expert setup ,then choose software update .
4. Now you will see 2 possibilities:1. Internet update 2. Manual update
Now you choose the second option (Manual Update).
hopefully then you should see some thing like this this
http://openpli.org/images/wiki/000847_soft2.png
if you see the above press the green button and all being well the image should start installing . when its complete you obviously have to go through the installation process by choosing language and setting time and date etc and by scanning for channels .
let us know if the above works .
