I need a bit of help
Can anyone tell me when I connect to DCC my DM shares the same IP as my router DM ends in192 etc etc .38
and my router should end 192 etctec 1.1
but I if put the router IP to what it should be then its says network problem but if change it back to the same as the DM it then connects and says network ok
anyone shed any light on this
and this just the beginning
cheers

best bet is type ipconfig into a dos box on your pc, this will tell you the pc ip address and the router host ip address
typically the router host address will be on oneof these
192.168.000.001 (192.168.0.1) or 192.168.001.001 (192.168.1.1) or 192.168.002.001 (192.168.2.1) or192.168.001.254 (192.168.1.254)
make sure that address is the host ip address on the satellite box, and the primary dns to start with as well
so lets assume your pc is on 192.168.1.2 and the router is on 192.168.1.1 , your sat box may be on 192.168.1.3 , or 192.168.1.38
the last digits will range from 2 to 254 on all slave devices and will be 1 on the router itself
if your router has a different host address like 254 (infinity hubs) , or uses 0.1 instead of 1.1 then amend accordingly
no 2 devices should share the same ip address (so each of the end addresses is different)
so checking a router in the admin panel you may see something like this
router host 192.168.1.1
laptop 192.168.1.2
tablet 192.168.1.3
mobile phone 192.168.1.4
xbox 192.168.1.5
etc etc
the subnet mask is always 255.255.255.000
the host ip address is always the router ip address
the primary dns is usually set to the same as the router ip address, unless its set to the isp dns servers or google or opendns public server addresses instead

Hello ramjet
Thanks for your reply
I get that they are supposed to be different as said above
But if put into DCC and press connect the DM ip addy ends in """.""".38 and the router is as you say ending """.""" 1.1 he green line which runs across says check router IP ...BUT if I put the IP of the DM """.""".38 into the router section when I press connect it says network all good then I can talk to the DM
sorry if its a repeated question but I cant get my head around it

Do you have dcc set to concect through router and not direct crossover or switch/hub if it is any of the latter two option it will not recognise your router no matter what you put into ip section

sorry to say I didnt understand the first explanation so repeating it does not help
this was why I explained how it should be
you need to connect the router to the dm using a straight wired ethernet cable, and another straight wired ethernet cable to your pc (or maybe wifi if using a laptop)
now you are either obtaining an ip using dhcp which means the router is giving out the ip address, or you set it manually
you would not get a .38 ip address if using dhcp, so it appears you have set it manually so ensure all the digits are correct
you did not mention the number in the third array , but I would assume it should be 1.38 if your router is 1.1
also you did not mention your pc ip address either
neither did you mention the results of the ipconfig command in a command prompt box (dos box)
the more info you provide the easier it is to see where your problem lies
so to recap, you should have 3 ip addresses here, all matching apart from the last array
router 192.168.1.1
pc say 192.168.1.2
dm say 192.168.1.38
I would start by writing down your router ip address having done the ipconfig
then write down the pc or laptop ip address and ensure the first 3 parts of the address match the router address
now ping the router from a dos box and ensure it answers you 3 times
then ping the dm ip address and ensure it also answers 3 times
and make sure you have done what happy_highlander says and ticked the router box so you have 3 items on screen , not 2

DM 192.168.332
PC 192.168.1.322
router 192.168.1.1
this is what they are
and the connection is through router

Change DM address to DM 192.168.1.33 or enable DHCP on the DM which will also do the trick. However it is preferable to have a static IP address on your DM for maintenace purposes.

Sorry
it is 192.168.1.33
DCHP ticked also (in the DM)

you can also assign ip address in router using mac address and dhcp :)
http://docs.fortinet.com/cb/html/index.html#page/FOS_Cookbook/Install_advanced/dhcp_mac_address_reserve.html
also might help type of router ?

have you hit search under router and let dcc find the router ip for itself or uninstalled dcc then reinstalled it.

OK then shouldn't really be a problem unless you have a block of addresses reserved in your router's DHCP table.
Looking at your first post, is the only problem you have is not seeing it connect via DCC? If so it could be a send socket error with DDC. Why do you need to use it as opposed to a standard FTP app?

DM 192.168.1.33
PC 192.168.1.36
router 192.168.1.1
this is what they are
and the connection is through router
well, if you have ticked the little box saying router in dcc you should have 3 items onscreen, and you should not need to enter the ip address as you should be able to use the search and it finds them
also you havent said if you can successfully ping the router and ping the dm from the pc in a command prompt (dos box)

when I click search under router it only comes back with DM ip
im in my router settings now cant see anything that would indicate any change
yes it pings
@satsmo just don't want it conflict with anything

ok , so you should have 3 items onscreen in dcc with the router box ticked on top left (in connection type)
the lefthand one is the pc (this computer) and the ip address is the pc ip address of 192.168.1.36
the righthand one is the router and should say 192.168.1.1 from a search
the middle one is the dreambox and from a search should show as 192.168.1.33
there should be green lines between them all, which looks like the letter T but in green
any red lines indicate a failed connection, usually with a socket error message
if successful it will say something similar to this
Telnet Connected
FTP Connected
Enigma2 detected (dm800)
ps , your dm seems to have changed ip from 1.38 to 1.33 after looking at your posts again, you really need to fix the ip manually in the box image

Bingo
yes I get 3 green lines but only when the IP of the router is the same as the DM if not the same then no green line between the 3
the. 38 was prob example
when they are the same then I can edit etc etc telenet
