I was giving a tip for anyone who uses Pomona Soic clips. I apologise for the confusion I caused. Absolutely ridiculous.

I'm sure we all get frustrated when our SOIC clips play up. We try to push the contacts back in position and they then ping out of their channel!!!! They are poorly held in place by a bit of melted over plastic which I think is feeble given the price of them. Anyway, a little tip. When I get new SOIC clips now I push the axle pin out and separate the two halves. Then I put a thinnish layer of epoxy resin over the top of where the plastic is melted to hold the contacts in position. That way, when my contacts sink out of position between the plastic legs, I can bend them forward quite forcefully without fear of them springing out and pi***** me right off. This little tip more than doubles the life of my clips.
Top tip No2. BUY 3M Clip. Note I did not put "Clips" but just "Clip" as you will only buy one.

Tried 3M clips. I'm sure it's a matter of taste but I didn't get on with them.

To be honest I can't remember the last time I used a clip as I always remove if possible but if I do use a clip then I find the 3M very robust if you get what I mean. I think I did cut about a 3/4 of a turn of the spring off of mine to make it more manageable though. They just feel really well made that's why I promoted them.

After many times of use, the clip will be worst because of its plastic case.

i agree guys
the farnell 3M clips are pants
as arthur says the spring is very strong so you'd think it gripped the chip perfectly
which is does not
the pasona ones i reckon are the best but do wear down with use
and the pogo idea is a good idea i must say
i have lots of pop pins i may have a pop at making something
but again as people say
if you can see it then take it off the board
were all in this game for a reason
and if you cant solder then you simply shouldn't be doing this
and if you cant take an eeprom off a circuit board again you shouldn't be in the game

yes i feel very safe doing it this way also , i have seen so many people asking for dump after the mess it up .
so really its it less than 1 min to remove a chip .
if your really sure that the dump wont change checksum when reading , then you can try the clip .

Using clip only if having backup dumps, and also not using when key data is stored in the cluster :)
Here, we are mainly doing same cars everyday over and over again :)
