Hey there, I stumbled upon this site when trying to figure out my airbag module 98820-5aa0a for a '15 Nissan murano. My issue is that the car was in a collision. It was reset by the rebuilder, and I had no airbag light when I recieved the car. However- the dealer pulled a current stored code for airbag module malfunction. Weird that there was no light but this code existed.

I sent it in to myairbags.com for a reset and now I have a solid airbag light with no blinking. Trying to figure out what happened to my module. Thanks, looking forward to being on the forum. Any help is appreciated. I tried scanning it today with the Autel619 diagnostic tool but there was no communication.

Thanks from the USA

I had a problem with my programmer so i was forced go send in a similar module from a 2016, and myairbags f*ucked it up. I can still communicate with it but they loaded different flash software in it when they tried to clear it.

It was part number 5AA0B and when I got it back the light was still on with a configuration malfunction code and my scanner said it was part number 5AA0C. Needless to say they gave me the run around over the phone and I'm basically screwed. Dealer wants over $800 for a new module.

So I can tell you they don't have a clue when it comes to programming these. I have fixed many of their mistakes in the past.. if you need modules cleared in the future, send them to me

Oh no :( Thanks for the reply.

This sucks. I really don't want to have to sink $800 into a new module. The guy I bought the car from said he can take the module back and try to reset it again, hopefully this time getting rid of any codes and the light.

I called and asked myairbags twice to make sure they can do a 2015 Nissan Murano. Both times it was "Sure no problem send it in."

If they load the wrong flash software is the module bricked? Can it be reverted? Do you offer these services? :)

I will save your note for future resets. I think I made a mistake by going with myairbags

Also- any idea why I would have been getting the B1420-00 code when scanned by the nissan dealer? I never had any airbag light, and it would do the 7 second light on check when turning the car on, then went off. That's the whole reason I sent it in to myairbags in the first place393561

Thanks Angel. Would you recommend sending it back to myairbags or try another guy? What was your guys name that has experience on these modules?

The person I bought the car from is in Missouri city, Texas, I wonder if its the same guy?

Can the module be fixed if the software is wrong?

Any other tips? I have the module boxed up today and ready to send somewhere.

From what I have experienced, once the module is programmed and you put it in the car you will get a code for ECU Malfunction/Error but it is only a history code and can be cleared with the scanner. I usually switch the car ignition on and off a couple of times then clear the code with the scanner and everything is good. Most likely your module has been reprogrammed but they probably did not test it and used an incorrect dump from a different part number as repairmymodule has mentioned above.

Thanks Yaz. I complained to myairbags and informed them that this is a common issue as reported here, and they had me send the module back as RMA for warranty repair.

Will keep you posted on what happens

The first time, I tried cycling the ignition and connecting my scanner (Autel619) but there was no communication.

Thanks to everyone for the help, any more comments are appreciated

Yeah no problem, it's good that it's covered under their warranty and they will give it another try. When you get the module make sure you ground it first and then plug in the connectors. Try using another scan tool also to read and clear the codes afterwards. That scantool is okay but sometimes it has problems clearing history codes from what I have experienced

Will do. What SRS scanner/reset tool do you recommend? Maybe one thats easily available on amazon and simple to use

It really depends on your budget. There are some decent scanners, the maxidas ds708 is good and you can get a used one locally for under $700 USD. The Autel Maxisys MS 906 is a good scanner and it priced at around $1400 USD. The one I am currently using is the Launch Scanpad 071 which is decent but the ones I have mentioned are better in my opinion. I paid $1400 USD for mine. I actually upgraded from the scanner you are currently using to the Scanpad. They are all pretty simple to use and also depends what you will be using them for. For basic automotive usage I recommend the DS 708, its a little outdated so you might want to get one that is updated already updated.

Alright folks, myairbags took back my module last week and the customer service rep said they redid it and retested it several times. It is arriving today. Going to bolt it in, connect the connectors, then connect the battery with my fingers crossed. Really hoping to see no airbag light. If there is- I will check it with my scan tool and if that doesn't work I will take it to a local collision shop to check what codes are being thrown.

Will report back later today

Just connected the module. Exact same situation as before. Solid airbag light, no blinking.

Not sure what to do next. I really need to get this car running, its been in the garage for a few weeks. My Autel619 scanner is not communicating when trying to scan the srs control unit.

Should I take it to a collision center tomorrow to try and have them read/scan the codes?

Any advice is appreciated. Myairbags is really disappointing me

Try using another scanner that is updated to be able to read and clear faults codes on newer vehicles. If that does not work then the data in the module could be corrupted or something was not done right when programming.

Alright, the saga continues.

Myairbags took a second pass at it and of course, still airbag light on. I called them and verified what they did, they said their program uses a vin number and performs a hardware test, which my module passed prior to shipping back to me.

Took it in to Nissan dealer. Following codes exist:

B1427-55 ECU SETTING
B1414-00 UNIT MALFUNCTION

The service procedure for the B1427 is to write the configuration to the airbag module. The dealer indicated that the unit malfunction code could have been triggered due to the B1427 code existing.

This is the procedure:

CONFIGURATION : Work Procedure INFOID:0000000011506347
1.WRITING MODE SELECTION
CONSULT Configuration
Select ?Re/programming, Configuration? of air bag.
When writing saved data>>GO TO 2.
When writing manually>>GO TO 3.
2.PERFORM ?AFTER REPLACE ECU? OF ?READ / WRITE CONFIGURATION?
CONSULT Configuration
Revision: October 2014 2015 Murano
INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT
SRC-45
< BASIC INSPECTION >

Perform ?After Replace ECU? of ?Read / Write Configuration?.
>> GO TO 4.
3.PERFORM ?MANUAL CONFIGURATION?
CONSULT Configuration
1. Select ?Manual Configuration?.
2. Touch ?Next?.
3. Select the ?Type ID? searched by using FAST (service parts catalogue) to write the ?Type ID? into the air
bag diagnosis sensor unit.
4. Touch ?OK?.
5. Check that the configuration has been successfully written and touch ?End?.
>> GO TO 4.
4.CHECK ALL ECU SELF-DIAGNOSIS RESULTS
1. Erase all ECU self-diagnosis results using CONSULT.
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
4. Check that all ECU self-diagnosis results have no DTC.

The dealer has never done this before, and he didnt have the required USB drive. So I will be going back tomorrow to have the procedure done. I'm really hoping this works and I don't need to have a new module installed, but there is no way to tell without doing the configuration process. Will report back later on with what happens.

Just an update on the same issue my customer had with his 2016 Murano. He ended up finding a used module for $250. We installed it and the light went right out

Thanks for the follow up. No programming needed? It was the exact same part number as original? I'm ready for this to be over and resolved, it is so frustrating that no dealer knows what they are doing and all comments are contradictory.

Today the service manager told me that there should be no configuration, then he found the tsb and retracted his statement. Part of me wants to just order a brand new one and skip the possibility that the reconfiguration procedure won't solve the issue, but then I would never know.

I'm not sure if it was exactly same part number or not because the label was missing. I expected the light to be on but it went right out as it was supposed to so I was surprised. As far as a brand new module goes, I know it will need Initial Configuration performed by a dealer level scan tool. So you may be in the same position you are now after buying a brand new module.

The thing that concerns me with your module is one of the two codes you have the B14xx Control Module Fault code usually means they f'ed up your module during programming. When we got the module back from Myairbags it only had 1 code and that was the configuration required code

Yeah that's strange. I am hoping that the dealer consult 3 will be able to reprogram/rewrite anything that myairbags messed up. In the TSB screenshot, it looks like it has the option for reprogramming and also rewrite ecu configuration.

At this point I have mentally prepared for the worst as I need to get this car back on the road. If the configuration /reprogramming this week is unsuccessful, I'll have to shell out the $400 for a new module and take it back for configuration. Such a pain in the ass, but this is part of the deal when buying rebuilt cars. Much smaller price tag, much larger headaches.

It seems like myairbag put file from a virgin module. I had configured those with consult 3 plus without any issues. I don't remember for sure but that b1414 I was able to erase and then configure the module, no codes and no light on. So you should be fine.

The saga continues! Had it at the dealer today for reconfiguring. They tried going through the procedure and there is a part number mismatch so they couldn't proceed. The module is telling them its 98820-5AA0A and the VIN number is telling them it should be 98820-5AA9A.

I ordered a new module 98820-5AA9A. :( $400

It should be in on wednesday and I have an appointment to take it back for reconfiguring. FML

Either the guy who I bought my car from installed the wrong part and somehow coded out the airbag light (is that possible?), or myairbags loaded the wrong file. Maybe both.

Not sure what I should do with my old module when the new one arrives- maybe sell it as the part number it supposedly is?

I dont get why they didnt tell you that the first time when you went to the stealership

The first dealership didn't have their computer, apparently it was out for repair and they couldn't do the programming.

Honestly dealers are such a pain in the ass, they all seem to want to have nothing to do with fixing my car. Maybe oil changes are all they want to be in the business of.

Wow they are as dump as they come, that one digit difference would of been ok, they should go through configuration but they have to go by the book, too bad for you that you had to spend $400 dollars, I would have love to take a shot at it. I would had a better chance that dealer or myairbag!
good luck

PLC auto or others, would you be interested in taking my old one after I get my new one set up, to see if you can restore it to the proper software? I figure if I can get the right software installed, I might be able to sell it and recoup some of my lost money

Thanks

I wouldn't mind taking a shot at it. I have done these modules so it shouldn't be an issue. PM me if you want me to do it for you. You should send it to someone closest to you so you can reduce the shipping costs. I'm in Toronto Canada.
