Is there a way to edit out some catagories from tomtom's default poi's. I deleted them from my tomtom (the poi.dat file) but find I need certain catagories left on, like railway stations, petrol stations etc. What I don't want is embassies, vets, dentists etc.
When I do a search of anywhere local, these things always crowd out the important stuff.

I have 815, was hoping to try 835 if I remember how to do it.

hoping the WE-1gb is western europe.

As I say, I have 815 something or other, but was hoping to try something newer. Not completely struck on 815. Don't like the way you have to enter a country first, to search a city, original was better.
I dunno if you can recommend any maps? and sources?

Here is a 1Gb version of Western Europe , you have enough space on 910 why do you want to use w_e 1GB version ? Other versions will have more coverage.

yes mate, it was the only one I could find. If there is a bigger version, I will definately have it. Any links would be good.
I dont know what maps are available? Suppose Tomtom site would be a starter to see whats available.

This worked a treat, I have junked the embassies, vets, dentists, convention centers and all other stuff I never use. A lot clearer when I search for poi's around and about.
Took a little fathoming out at first, had to learn Italian or whatever language it was lol, but now I have a poi.dat file I can easily change for the default.

Now the new maps.. done the downloading (had to buy another months subscription), you showed a meta file there in your link. Is that a full file?

Sheeesh... it did work. And I did manage to save a copy of my old poi.dat with the changes, but I have tried on the new maps poi.dat (western and central europe 835.2419) and it doesnt work!

I did exactly the same, loaded the poi.dat in, tried to extract and it goes through the motions, even to the point where it says its finished. And there is nothing there.

I have uninstalled, and re installed. And even run CCleaner to rid the old stuff, but still the same with the newer file altho poi.dat files from older versions seem to be extractable.

Any ideas?

Its no biggy, coz I have used my old poi.dat file, but was hoping to sort out the latest one.

I ve just tried it on uk v8.35 and it extracted fine, deleted and recompiled poi.dat without any errors. I dont have any tomtom with me to try it right now, so i ll try it tonight.

Strange, i re tried the old file, it works, but the new file it doesnt, the new file is about 56mb. As I say it doesnt really matter, I put the old recompiled file in, 24mb, and it works fine, no more dentists and opera houses. I just wondered if I was missing information being a newer file, maybe more railway stations or whatever.


Just looking at tomplayer... have you tried it Nevo? I am tempted, but don't want to screw up the cracking system I have now.
I tried it a couple of years ago, and it was ok.. depending on how you converted your movie, but one of the things I remember disappearing off my menu was the 'where am I' button.

gonna start a thread on tomplayer, see what others people think of it.

Well it certainly took out all the dentists, pharmacists, embassies, opera houses and other stuff... what I didnt realise, it never included any stuff!
I only realised when i tried to look for a railway station... quite handy for me, seeing as I work on the railway.
So it seems the old poi.dat doesnt work with this new map? unless i put it in the wrong place?
I have now put it in the map folder, and the root, but it still soesnt work.

As I say, this is an older poi.dat, because for some reason the new one would not extract using Gestpoi.dat beta.

I know this sounds gobble de gook but, I am sure one or two of you know what I am on about.

well for some reason, GestPoi doesnt want to extract the poi.dar file from W&CE 835 maps.
It works great with earlier version poi.dat files.. but not the new.
And.. when I have replaced the file into tomtom with an older version, tomtom doesnt see the default poi catagories of the older file.

At the moment I have the full file back in which is working fine, but I am sick of trawling thru dentists and vets and stuff to get to interesting poi's

cheers again nevovx... if you do produce a file, without churches, car dealers, car repairs, casino, cinema, college, concert hall, convention center, courthouse, cultural center, dentist, doctor, embassy, golf course, government office, ice skating ring, legal-other, place of worship, rentcar fac, and parking, stadium, tennis court, theatre, vet, water sports, winary, yacht basin...
Then I would be very much interested in downloading it from you.
