There's no bad tool, and believe me, I have a lot, doesn't have AVDI, but ads, Vvdi (all products from xhorse), lonsdor, tango, and last time autel im608. If some tool can't do something, I hope other do it. Lonsdor is cheap tool with cheap updates, for me worked. Autel has more price update and tool price but works ok too...

2. I never clicked any trial offers, so that's out of question too.
3. Disable Wi-Fi - very good idea, but I think once I had problem - it didn't want to start unless updated.

Anyway, it's even worse now - it's bricked, "Fault 31".
And something tells me there will be not much help from them to unbrick it.

Question: which tool would you call "better than Lonsdor"? In addition to SBB, SKP900, OBDSTAR X100 plus, Autek iKEY 820.
Requirements: under $1000, no tokens or paid updates (or at least, these updates won't convert tool into useless brick of plastic), NA market. No Mercedes needed, no BMW needed, mostly american and asian cars, VW would be nice.

Or after latest updates just about any tool will be better for these requirements than Lonsdor?

Ok, guys, here's some update. I'm trying to fight with customer support right now, trying to tell them it's not right to treat customers like this, removing previously free menus and models. Their rep asked me if I have proof of what was there but removed now. I don't have any proof because my device is bricked now. These of you who have free version and were smart enough to turn Wi-Fi off for the last 3-4 months - could you send (here or PM me) screenshots of Ford, Dodge, Chrysler, Subaru menu, all unlocked models? Let see if we can change anything.

Update - I found beautiful video dated Sep 17, 2018, which shows many makes and models all free and unlocked.
I will show this video to rep, see what she says.

I guess it depends on version now, apparently there are few versions with different update prices.
This is for model which currently sells at $700

Lonsdor K518IS Latest Update Policy:
Menus are divided into two parts: Free Menus and Subscribed Menus.
1. Free menus are free for lifetime.
2. Subscribed menus can be used for free for 180 days. You need to pay for them after the trial period. After the trial period, subscribed menus will not work properly if you don't pay. And the menus will disappear after updating the device.

Look I rather pay more for the tool to work then buy tools which partially work and don’t have to pay nothing, I just charge extra to customers to pay for updates as long as the tool does the job I am happy to pay, cheap Chinese tools have come long way for perfection and they are working on them hard and they are dead cheap compare with ZEDFULL and others.

I second this, OBDstar and Lonsdore have pretty much the same coverage except OBDstar's subscription rate is reasonable.
They also are not making previously free cars now payable.

Let's face it - they sell you tool for $800 (or whatever it is today) which is absolutely useless (free coverage way less than SKP900 after all latest "free updates"). And THEN they will RENT you some more coding for a year (removing all extra cars when rent is over) for $800. So for $1600 they let you use their tool for a year. Just WOW. I'm pretty sure they were thinking they found "good" way to rip customers off. But at the end it just looks miserable. XTool (NA division) was trying to do similar thing with their AutoProPad, but I guess after they started losing customers they changed their policy and wording on websites - now after 1 year of FREE updates you either pay for one more year of updates, or keep whatever software was already installed and updated, nothing gets deactivated. At least this is how it looks, if someone knows otherwise please let me know. So if I buy AutoProPad Basic today for $800, I will get tool which has all current software and WILL HAVE current software 1 year from now, and that software WILL NOT expire. So I'm actually buying, not renting. And guess what? While update is $600 per year, I might as well buy another AutoProPad with one more year free updates, and sell old one (with still current software!), it will be worth more than $200 anyway! Actually, this is what I most likely will do.

You see - when I bought it, they were telling different things. There's NO WAY locking menus/cars which previously were free can be called "fair" or "normal".
They still insist they didn't lock any previously free menus, but it's simply not true. I remember some Ford smart keys were available, now NONE, other people here stating they previously were able to program other models, now can't.
I will see if they at least will fix it for me (as I mentioned earlier - it's bricked now, on the way to China), and then - I will sell it, bye-bye Lonsdor, no Lonsdor products EVER again in my life.
For example, when XHorse messed with their Key Tool - made firmware "global" and as result few cars disappeared from remote menu, they at least helped me to roll back firmware to the version I wanted, and that problem was created unintentionally in first place.
This is general discussion, not just "what works, what doesn't".
But back to your question - "what works, what doesn't" - without subscription almost nothing works, all more or less modern cars are locked. That's my point. I used it ONCE (!!!) since I bought it in 2018, the rest was done by SKP900 and other tools because it was EASIER and FASTER. So there's absolutely NO WAY I can justify $600-$800 updates.

I bought lonsdor when it just launch and if you look at my previous post I informed on what worked and what didn't. It was a pile of absolute rubbish, to begin with, and couldn't do a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara while SKP900 did that car without asking for a pin. As the year passed they finally got it to a level that is acceptable and they have now stolen all the free options. I used the lonsdor quite a few times to do MK7 transits blue remote over the year. Saves me loading up my laptop or using a dongle with MVP. This week I went to add a key on an MK7 Transit and it is now paid-for option. I thought to myself how is this possible. I wacked out my SKP900 and did the job in 2 mins.

I would advise not to buy this tool and invest something that is not going to steal from you. I am compiling a list of all the paid-for option that were free when we first bought the device. I will also include a list of all paid-for options that you can do on your SKP 900. I will post in public domain so anyone thinking about buying this device think hard about what they are doing. My advice is to save your money and invest in something worthwhile. Personally, Abrites AVDI is still the best tool on the market.

Please let me know if you will make such list. My tool is on the way to them, I will insist to install firmware from June 2019 or something like that, before they "upgraded" (in fact - downgraded) firmware and locked most menus. I recently bought hextag from Microtronik.
On whatsapp they nearly every day they were asking "Do you want to place the order sir?,Do you want to order sir?"
I've ordered and now a friend discovered that in 2019 isn function (the reason I bought it) is free but in 2020 I have to pay $1000 yearly subscription.
Nobody told me this,can't find any information about this on the website!
I also tried to read cas3 and cas4 with it.Guess what? Error! I tried to contact them on Facebook. They didn't even approved my post.nobody came back to me. The sales don't answer anymore (on whatsapp)..
If I decide to pay for the subscription it's not going to be easy to get my money back.
Luckily I paid with PayPal and I'll send it back.

I think it’s possible to add card with Lonsdor on megane IV. I didn’t have do test on megane IV. But if you can do twingo 3 and trafic 3. Hitag aes 4A i think is same way. Just protocol is different. I used it for coding MQB key for VAG. It works fine. Jmautoman if you can do video of programming card megane 2017. It will be good.

Yes it’s right same as Clio V from 2019 you can have flip key or card. Megane IV 2017 too.Megane 3 same in some country like Renault Fluence.

It is a waste of money. VVDI2, ACDP, and CGDI prog does great job and no subscription and all of them can be acquired for the price of Autohex. It was a total waste of money and deceit. Their website had no mention about annual subscription.

I have question for you. From my understanding you turned off updates, right? Can you look at update history - what date was last update on your device? My bricked Lonsdor (still) on the way to China. If they will be kind enough to unbrick it, I will insist to install older firmware, just need to know which date to tell them. I will see if they at least will do it (I already asked, their reaction - "What??? Why would you go for older version????"). BECAUSE.

It's unacceptable when you have to fight with manufacturer to get what you paid for originally. I don't care about any European brands it does, don't need any. It had some coverage for NA and Asian vehicles and I expected it to improve because I PAID FOR UNIT WITH FREE UPDATES FOR LIFE except paid options which were in separate section of menu and I didn't care about them at all. Now I have to fight to get my original outdated menus back. BS.

BTW - I already see on eBay people trying to sell them used. Not surprised.

AD100 pro software + special dongle for FIAT cost about same money as whole Lonsdor and still work worse than Lonsdor.

MVP Pro have all softwares and you only pay for a token and in case of Fiat I believe 2 tokens (1 for precoding and 1 for programming)

What is the cuurent policy of updates? The last notice from user lonsdor was that the period starts from the day whey you pay, not from the day when the trial ends? Is this true, can anybody paid the subscription and can tell about the period? Does basic version contains trial version so I can buy the subscription later or I will have only FREE part of menu?

What is the dealer key in terms of Lonsdor? This key contents the working remote part? On the video on youtube I see that yes, the remote works while making dealer key. I need this tool to make Fiat/Iveco/ Alfa Romeo models, I also have TMpro with modules but I want to make a BSI OBD reading on some models without dismounting. I ask because for some models Lonsdor writes that it can configure Remote part, but for others there is only Dealer key and no Remote mentioned.

There was no app for Astra k on lonsdor tool this app only updated in December 2019 I could be wrong but not in my lonsdor tool until now.

Grande punto has 3 different type of delphi bsi so it hit and miss some work some dont here is a reference

Yes,sure, I have TMPro with all modules for Alfa/Fiat/Iveco ID46 cars and I prefer to make the keys from dump if there is a possibility. For me this is strange that LOnsdor can read PIN and make keys from Marelli BSI with NEC and Motorola BSI(Ducato/Daily) but cannot read Delphi from my own Grande PUnto :) I will try another car and write here, there is a lot of italian cars(and Boxer JUmper also) here as we specialized on it

I tried 2 times on Grande Punto 2007 and also failed to do via OBD with Lonsdor. I don't know if software is not complete or this BSI is something different than others Delphi which I read with success, like Doblo 2010, Fiat 500 2009 and 2013.

Yes after 2015 that means 2016 and younger.
If you try it wont allow you to read or write flash it just flashes lights once and the it says read pincode failed.

This machine is unable to make key precoding correctly, the remote won't work.
Tried with factory keys reopened, with or without changing eeprom chip.
But if you put the correct precoding to the key with other machine, it teaches it fine and the remote Will work too

I saw report by person who did 2 times full remote key all by K518 and all worked, remote also. Only problem was to place properly new key in K518 slot for precoding but I guess it's better put only PCB without shell for precoding and this problem should be gone.

Maybe it depend which tool you use to unlock original second hand remotes as some might have done it wrong. I just reminded myself that my friend had such problem with AVDI. Apparently there are 2 versions of that key and need other renew files, something like that... But I know he programmed key and remote also didnt work, so changed key and worked

All what you wrote is correct, there gives 2 kind of keys. The choice depends on the data, what you can find in BSI. However, it toke 2 days tó make a perfectly working key to the car.

Unlocking was made with X2, coz I knew the AVDI failure. The @ the end working key too.

Precoding was made Always with the whole key, not just the pcb. That could be a problem.

As everybody knows, Tango is unable to make the precoding correctly, was used to make a 7936. At the end that chip was precoded a teached by Lonsdor to b able 2 start the car.

yes , but IF tool read PIN code & made dealer key , programming is an easy job , cheap & safe !

Maybe OBD2 cable problem or defective relay switch inside tool , EEPROM is read by standard CAN ( obd2= 6/14) , programming vendor CAN ( obd2= 1/9)

But if stupid MONKEYS prefer eat bananas than understand :damnmate:

There was a big question in me, what happens when the time runs out and you have to connect the machine to the net. Some days earlier that happened: got a prompt to connect to the net to update activity (or something like it). I had no other choice, so I did it. The tablet was re-activated by Lonsdor, but no updates were downloaded. I can use it like before, and all functions are running fine what would be disabled after updating. The red update mark stays on.

Reading the pin is Always ok (@hyundai & kia) as far I know, but sometimes it can't program the key. The pin is correct if you can program it with other device.
