Not sure if these can be unlocked by code! If you know someone who has one (locked of course), then get the IMEI from them and we'll try a code! To unlock a Huawei modem you just need to insert a non-accepted SIM into the device, it will the ask you for the unlock code. In some cases branded dashboard software has been doctored to stop the code being asked for, in this case just download and install the PC version of Mobile Partner.

The Huawei code writer software is really only used on the E220 and code calculation does not work on these!

PC installs of unbranded Huawei Mobile Partner can be found HERE (http://www.dc-unlocker.com/downloads/Huawei/Not_customised_managers)

How to use your Huawei Unlock code:

1. Ensure that you modem has been completely installed on your
PC. If this has not been done, you will not be able to unlock the device. USB devices have built-in CDROM emulation and installing is as simple as plugging the device in and waiting for the task to end!

2. The correct way to unlock is by inserting a non-accepted SIM card into the device. You should get a box appear asking for the code and once entered the modem is unlocked! Remember that you only get 10 attempts so don't keep trying codes if you get errors!! Some providers have their dashboard software "doctored" so that it doesn't ask for the unlock code! The simple way around this is to download a PC install version of the generic (i.e. unbranded) Mobile Partner dashboard software, you can get that HERE (http://www.dc-unlocker.com/downloads/Huawei/Not_customised_managers)

3. You may want to de-brand your device by flashing new dashboard software to the device itself, for most Huawei devices you can get the upgrade tool HERE (http://www.dc-unlocker.com/downloads/Huawei)

4. Remember that once you have unlocked your device, you will need to set up a new connection profile for the new network. This is done using the dashboard profile management setting under Tools.

Things to remember:

Any Vodafone USB modem with a -Z suffix to it's model number is made by ZTE and thus can not be unlocked with Huawei unlock codes!

The "Flash Code" that is usually also given is only used should you need to upgrade your devices firmware to a version not authorized by your original network. In most cases you will never need to use the Flash Code but if you do, take care that you really understand what you are doing!!

Only ever attempt to upgrade firmware and/or dashboards (unless PC installed versions) with the same model number. For example the E160 and E160G will not use the same firmware because the devices are quite different internally!!

Another useful tool is MDMA (Mobile Data Monitoring Application) this allows for a detailed signal read-out and a host of other features, you can also use it as a dashboard replacement! Although MDMA does not (currently) support SMS it does however support USSD commands which many using pre-pay SIM's will find handy. The MDMA Tool can be downloaded from HERE (http://www.nerve.org.za/mdma/)

You need to setup a new connection profile before you can connect to another network. Very few providers use the same APN or passwords! It sounds like your modem is unlocked but simply missing the connection profile! This assumes that you have some level of signal showing of course!

I'm making the assumption that you are from the Philippines from the networks mentioned.

With the exception of the E220 I have found no need to upgrade firmware on Huawei devices! The dashboard and firmware are effectively two different things and should be treated as such!

I also assume that your device still works on Globe Telecom as you don't actually confirm this fact...

The E1552 supports 3G/HSDPA on either 900 or 2100MHz. On all other bands (i.e. 1800MHz) it supports 2G only! So if you have your device set for 3G only network, you will not see signals on 1800MHz. The only listing I have for Sun Cellular is 1800MHz with a 2G network.

It is also quite possible that the service you want to switch to is not on any frequency supported by the E1552, some new operators are starting 3G/HSDPA on 700MHz which of course the E1552 does not support.

Basically if your E1552 is working on the original network (Globe Telecom) and accepts another SIM without asking for an unlock code, then the device is unlocked but you are unable to select the new network because your modem is set for 3G only or the new service is on a band not compatible to the E1552 and one final scenario is that you simply are not in range of a decent signal from the new network!

You will need to do local research as the website I've found give very little information in English...

I have now updated the firmware to 11.314.21.31.00 (the most recent that I could find) from here:

Yes I have the mobile partner on my desktop - my partner has a K3715 which was flashed (before we bought it) with the generic Mobile Partner software, and so this installed on the desktop is working (select device for K3520, now unlocked), but how do I flash the K3520 with generic software so the autorunis for Mobile Partner and work on any computer i plug it into?
I can't seem to access it to delete/overwrite files... and if i try to update, which would be best? I've heard e169 from june 2008, or e160g from 2009, but is these the best choices? With e160g software wouldn't i lose functionality (ie make it work on networks 2100 only no 900, when K3520 should do both)? What about speeds? eg. software allowing for 7.2 down 5.6 up would be optimal - what should i flash it with then?

P.S. Do you know the Flash code for my device if I do end up needing it later? THANKS!!

The Dashboard is just that, so the dashboard from a E160 is the same as that used in the E160G although the device is different in the bands covered!

The flash code is only for non-approved firmware upgrades! This should not be needed to upgrade the dashboard side of the modem.

Just for completeness your device codes are:

You need to keep in mind that the K3520 is a device specially produced for Vodafone! If you ask Huawei what the differences are, you'll get a deafening silence!! As far as I am aware it is just a E169 branded for Vodafone but there is always a risk that a later version of the K3520 may be another device re-branded. In fact one Vodafone K series modem suffixed with a -Z is not even a Huawei device but it's actually made by ZTE!!

Technically speaking if you install E169 dashboard onto a K3520 it would lose it's type approval which is quite serious in some countries...

Personally, I leave all K Series Huawei modems with their Vodafone software on them and supply my clients with either a copy of MDMA or PC installed Mobile Partner. If you are worried about the device trying to install itself each time it is plugged in, MDMA has an option to toggle this facility on and off using a command line option!

I don't use Vodafone or Mobile Partner but MDMA which is a standalone application that you can copy onto a microSD card on your device. It does not support SMS but it does support USSD commands. Load time is < 0.5 seconds and so beats both VMC and Mobile Partner hands down!!
