copy the block into a new file, then use Xorfiles, then insert the generated file with WinHex from block 0x00000000 into your 4GB image or write it directly to yours SD-card

You must first decode your original SD so that you can read it.

Integrate the image as a virtual drive or copy it to a SD-card,
then copy the folders and files to your new FAT 16 formatted SD and then encrypt them again with the new KEY.

I formatted the sd card into fat, copy the files into sd card, should be 4 maps? (file, log, system and update?)

Crypted it with the tool and wrote the .img back on the sd card. still can read the sd card shows just alot of folders.
When i insert the sd card into the kess it says EEFFACE error.

you say i have to encrypt them again with NEW KEY? what is the key of it? is it the CID? the 13 lines we copyed?

By no means did "kitnoos2002" copy anything of mine, he had been successful much earlier with Kess SD cards.
And as far as I know he only needs the SD card CID to create a new image.
I still do not know how to convert the CID to the 13-line KEY.

But my method works, so I do not have to know everything about it !

I'd much rather find out how to decrypt the 5.017 and 5.028 protocol files.

Haven't talked personally with kitnoos2002 (the only pm i sent him about this topic was unanswered, maybe he thought i was trying to learn something from him while i already knew all this since day 1 ktag 6.070 arrived on the scene, was first clone in implement this sd cyphering) but i think he uses same way as you to produce his custom cid images.

My guess is he use a cid changeable card, put on it the requested cid and extract the key in a similar procedure as you, triggering the same bug in the firmware you use on the interface to initialize the new card and grab fron there the encryption key. Then apply the encryption on a ready made clean image.

This method i haven't tested myself cause i don't own a cid changeable card, but knowing how all thing works i'm sure its a workable way to produce custom cid images too.

There is another way to self produce workable image for personal use, no any technical or encryption or programming knowledge needed. I may publish it some day.

As for the cid to key conversion i will keep it for myself a bit more.;) with your permission.;)

Anyway in all that speech i wrote are some clues that can make you go forward in guessing the cid to key thing.

As far as i know 5.017 and 5.028 are not publicly available. Ktag 7.020 firmware was leaked to public some time ago.

I personally doubt the families’ files are encrypted based on each kess or ktag serial number.

Just think they are compressed, even posible with a password.

My guess is that the necessary protocol is, when needed, uploaded to nxp ram, there gets unpacked by the mcu and make use of it running its code from ram.

This takes us,As kitnoos2002 noted, to the point that the protocol may be matched to its linked firmware, because of data and subroutines addresses fixed and different from one firmware version to another.

Hard thing to achieve porting new version protocol to run in older firmware.

Not to mention that before running there is a check for firmware version to see if the protocol is going to be run where it was meant to, if not a protocol mismatch error should arise and stop execution of the protocol code.

Allowing different firnware version protocol run on ram will lead to mcu hangs because calls to procedures will not be same addresses and code flow may be unpredictable and a disaster.

I guess it is because you are still new to the forum.
I am fairly new too and still can't get SD-cardfiles_and_Tool.set.
I can get the others though.

I found HxD. It is a freeware alternate to WinHex.
When you open the Tools>Open disk, make sure that you uncheck "Open as Readonly"
Then you can do the "Fill selection" with all the 00h.

Half success, managed today to make card, after several tryouts it worked for me but only for 1GB card, still trying 32GB or 16GB Fast card with no joy yet.
Question is, what system format should I use for 32 GB as there is no option for FAT16, apparently up to 4Gb only, if formatted in FAT32 XOR crashing and gave me crypted "empty" file, when tried to add block manually as explained by someone before Kess gives me EEFACE error. Probably still doing something wrong, did anyone created 32GB card?:confused:

I have no idea if Audi A6 3.0tdi works with Kess 5017, but I would compare or replace the necessary Protocol files.

You need to build your own from the files and directions in the first post.
"SD-cardfiles and Tool.txt" is the link for the actual Kess_5.017 folder to put on your microSD.

Edit: just to be clear, when you get to the step to copy over the files, just copy what is inside the Kess_5.017 folder.
Kess wants to see \File, \Log, \System, \Update not \Kess_5.017

The "key" is always 13 lines, 208 bytes long.
The "key file" only has to be as long as the data on the SD card, 50 - 60 MB is usually sufficient,
no matter whether 128MB, 4GB or 16GB SD Card

I've experimented with a 128MB sd card, so the 128MB "128MB XOR Key01-13.img" file.

Member "SVVAG2000" who has published the "KeyFileGenerator.cmd" and my knowledge in another forum,
the size of 128MB just took over because it works

The Kess5.017 files of SVVAG2000 are about 40MB in size and you have to create your keyfile, then your keyfile is only 40MB in size.
No matter if you copy it to an 8GB or 2GB, only the 40MB will be needed

I do everything the same until step 10 of the guide, create image file called Decript_SD.img but it has a size of 8 gb while key file with a size of 128 mb and then I open xorfile and it creates an empty file.

XorFile can not work with large files, the created file must be as big as the smaller source file

open you 8GB img with winhex, mark 50-60MB, save to new file, use xorfile, open the created file with winhex, copy it with winhex in the 8GB img, then copy the 8GB img with winhex to SDcard

That you can select any car for id or read and not have “protocol not found” error but all works.

Don't copy IMAGE file to sd card.

After point 11 my instruction you should have 128mb final File (IMAGE) so using "Win32DiskImager" program than you choose this Image File than volume to sd card and just WRITE... writing is arround 10-15sec. After this just put in sd card to socket you kess/ktag. Hope its more clear now.

I'm having 2 problems with sd 4gb:
- when I delete all the dump with winhex and start ksuite with the deleted sd I have "external exception eefface" if I restart ksuite twice the program starts.
I have the list of cars of normal color, but if I go into any car I have "protocol not found"
- now I remove sd from the kess and put it in the reader sd, I open winhex, I click F9 but I have an error (it tells me to format to access)

put SD-card in Kess, power on Kess..... do not start Kess Software

You need native sd reader connected directly to the pci bus, the usb readers not work for reading the cid.

If you are using a tower PC not a laptop i'm sorry to tell you 99% of the front side sd readers are plugged to an USB port in the PCB.

Use a laptop with native SD reader.

You can also use an android phone with an app to read SD data, included the CID.

Hello friends, I had a problem after making the SD Card. After I made the SD card according to the instructions of pocinas I mounted the SD card in Kess PCB. Now connect KESS to the PC and wait a minute and then start K-suite. when I then chose a vehicle came the error "Protocol not found". I do not have this error with the original SD Card. The solution was quite simple. Reinstall K-suite + Driver and all wants to be OK! Maybe I can help some people here with my text. Thanks for the great work here Mate!

here are my steps where I'm wrong ...
- insert new sdcard in the pc
-I open winhex and put all the dump at 00

-file 3 cript_new_sd.img (which will be created)
- I open win32diskimage

Ensure cards make proper contact on kess pcb sd reader and try starting ksuite 2 or 3 times until it starts without the exception error.

Other way is go the CID way, faster, cleaner, less error prone ;)

Kess work well with china card. I have all ready test with two interface, no difference. Tools works with china cards, so problem are somewhere else.

I just wanna use genuine card with Kess. These china card are quite poor quality.

Yes, very strange behavior. But with this "trick" i can get all size(what didn't work earlier) cards working with ksuite to get details for image.

I decrypt your image with Xorfile and create a drive with decrypt image and "ImDisk Toolkit", then I can read all the files.
I could also write the decrypted image on an SD card and then read the files.

Each Ksuite version has its database "Device.s3d" and you have to read it there everything is in it.
With "DB Browser for SQLite" you can read and edit the "Device.s3d" file.

2.47 ksuite with Ktag ...YES but only 8.000 from Russians, in description say ksuite 2.34, but 2.47 works as well. http://16pin.ru/k-tag-fw-8-000-master

Coast of this is 35000 russians rybles is... not all, need add Plus courier delivery plus duty = ~ £570 = ~610 Euro. And this ktag is still cheap and not well quality pcb (need do rework), just sd card maybe is good quality.

I bought from there years ago Kess 5.028 (ktag the same price) so maybe little over topic, but just to knows guys ;-)

I would like share my INSTRUCTION because for me this Instruction from 1st post and archives SD-cardfiles and Tool.txt exacly file READMY and Vieo Creation microSD for KESS 5.017 and KTAG 7.020.mp4 with incomplete understanding because Video is in Russian Language and in Video Person use 128Mb card, but my card was 4GB so i was stuck in point 10 from READMY instuction, look below i MODIFIED READMY file and added more important infos

1. erase in zero new Memory SD CARD so Open Winhex press F9 - open SD CARD reader than press CTRL+L (EDIT---> fill disk Sector) and choose "00" press Ok and Confirm - Wait to Fill all sectors to SD CARD
2. insert SD CARD into device (KESS/KTAG), connect to PC and start Ksuite (the best with Internet Switch OFF/disabled), Try to Entry in Any Vehicle there should Grey Protocols
3. remove SD CARD from device (KESS/KTAG) and insert into PC/SD READER
4. open memory card in HEX-editor, Press F9 and open CARD SD AGAIN
5. copy/select block 000000D0 - 0000019F should 13 Lines and using CTRL+ SHIFT+N (EDIT--> COPY ALL---> INTO NEW FILE) save new file give name "Key"
6. place file "Key" in folder with "KeyFileGenerator.cmd" and start "KeyFileGenerator.cmd"
7. after work of a script you will receive new file "KeyFile.bin"
8. format SDcard in FAT (4Gb can Format to FAT/FAT32) Cards 8GB and more support NTFS, so dont sure how format Card to FAT if is Bigger than 8GB, so my recomendations is Using maximum 4Gb Micro SD Cards
9. copying folders from archive "Ksuite" or "Ktag" to formated sd card
10. make new SDcard image with Files in HEX-editor so

IMPORTANT
Again Press F9 and choose SD CARD EDIT than---> EDIT---> Define block --- choose on top (look attached Photo) ---- BEGINNING OF FILE - 0 and END OF BLOCK 793FFFF Press OK
than CTRL+ SHIFT+N (EDIT--> COPY ALL---> INTO NEW FILE) and Save new file like "decript_sd.img"
than you file should Created /received 128mb
if you not do Define Block 0-793FFFF you file will every time BIG how is you memory card (example 4GB which is too big using XOR)

11. start XorFiles.exe and choose you
filename 1 - KeyFile.bin
filename 2 - Decript_sd.img
filename 3 - Cript_NEW_SD.img - file which will be Genarated
START

12. use JUST Win32DiskImager program to write 128mb IMAGE to your SD CARD
Some another programs like imageusb or Winhex to write image on you SD, dont sure can be work, but Win32DiskImager can quarantee Write IMAGE correclty to you SD

Check the file size of what you are trying to open in XorFiles.
I also had similar problems, but it was due to the image file size i was trying to open.
Check the PDF i made with instructions and see if you are really using the correct image size.

XorFile can not work with large files, the created file must be as big as the smaller source file

open you 8GB img with winhex, mark 50-60MB, save to new file, use xorfile, open the created file with winhex, copy it with winhex in the 8GB img, then copy the 8GB img with winhex to SDcard

Ktag fw 7.020 was leaked to public a while ago, should not be difficult to find.

Now, answering your questions i have ktag 7.020 and kess 5.017 firmwares loooooong time ago since the first clones appeared on the scene, also have my own tools to make matching sd for both in few seconds based on sd cid number, but my private files are not for sharing.

I share advice and some knowledge/experience regarding this topic, just that.

As for the need to reflash/replace lpc2478 in your ktag... yes you need a way to program the firmware in a BLANK one, the one already fit in your ktag 6.070 is crp3 protected, so either you risk the heat unlock method to delete it or buy virgin one, swap in pcb, and then program it when you have found 7.020 firmware.

I'm really glad that I found this forum, because I also have a probmlem with KessV2 5.017 (Chinese clone, red pcb)…
To be honest I had the problem from the start I got it, but the seller was not helpfull at all, so I stuck with a problematic unit.
I have two problems:


'External exception EEFFACE' error, which is suppose to be a sd card related problem, but then I tried another sd card (I managed to get a sd image from seller) and copy it on a new sd card, but then I got
'Protocol not found' error, which should be a problem because the sd card is not right or correctly prepared…


The board itself looks o kand doesn't seem to have any 'bad contact' problem…and as I found so far there is a problem with sd card, because it must be prepared correctly.

I also found interesting, when I prepared an original sd card from an image, I managed to start an app and read an ID from my car, but when I wanted to do that again, the 'External exception EEFFACE' error appeared and I was back at the beggining.

To be honest, from what I have read, it might not be such a problem to prepare a new sd card (original is 128M and my new is 8M) by myself and from the first post I found enough info, but not all the tools. I got WinHex and XorFiles v1.0, but I could not get keyfilegenerator.cmd anywhere.

Can somebody be so kind and to help me with this file… and I also can't seem to understand 'Copying folders from archive "Ksuite" or "Ktag" to formated sd card'… I can not find this folders in my Ksuite folder…

I'm really glad that I found this forum, because I also have a probmlem with KessV2 5.017 (Chinese clone, red pcb)…
To be honest I had the problem from the start I got it, but the seller was not helpfull at all, so I stuck with a problematic unit.
I have two problems:


'External exception EEFFACE' error, which is suppose to be a sd card related problem, but then I tried another sd card (I managed to get a sd image from seller) and copy it on a new sd card, but then I got
'Protocol not found' error, which should be a problem because the sd card is not right or correctly prepared…


The board itself looks o kand doesn't seem to have any 'bad contact' problem…and as I found so far there is a problem with sd card, because it must be prepared correctly.

About EEFFACE error what I found is that it's more a combination of Ksuite version you use and the driver in windows...
I also have a Kess clone and if i try to open Ksuite 2.33/2.37 i have same error, but with version 2.25 and 2.47 i dont have that error...

Hello Guys, i just want to share with you all a PDF that i made with some "tutorial" i was able to find over this forum, and put together, just to clear anyone that might be finding hard to do this SD Card, the same way i was...
All the credits must go to the creator/s for the files / tools...

Any chance of getting the WinHex 19. pro version...
I download it my self, but it was trial version,... then I found winHex 17.0 version, but it also has limits when I try to save an image from SD card (step #13 from SD_creation_guide_for_Kess_V2.pdf)...
