Instal winxp first then win 7, if win 7 uses same boot loader as vista then it will hog it to latest version of windows, or use multiple boot software

look in msconfig and see if both o/s are listed ln the boot ini as one could be set as default as it could stop you having a choice.

Thanks guys

Sorted, because I had 7 installed first the xp bootloader overwrote the 7 bootloader so used software to re-install 7 boot loader and now gives option of both OS when pc is switched on

yeah I know that but when i was running just xp it never took a few minutes to connect to my network connection, it was pretty much instant as my desktop appeared.

If you want to multi boot anything as long as one of them is XP you can use grub4dos. This replaces NTLDR with the Grub one and will allow any number of partitions to boot without changing the MBR.

you have to fix your win 7 boot loader and then add the new windows installation in win 7 loader!
firstly try that:
Recovering the Vista Bootloader from the DVD - NeoSmart Technologies Wiki (http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Vista+Bootloader+from+the+DVD)
and then add windows xp as it is written here:
