Your cable seems to be a very good clone.
CAN not ready with what soft and loader? Wich car? For sure your car is CAN ready?
Try reflash your cable with external programmer with "44" Fw+EE, test on a CAN ready car and see (NOT 18.9.1/25.01.2019 V(d$. If problemm persist, the cable can be broken.

I don't see the other side of PCB for know if is with transistors or with IC on K.
I don't know what soft you use.

Because of this i told you write atmega with "44" with external programmer.
If your cable is in warranty perriod can asking seller to change-it.

0х44, Yes, you can flash it, I even think that the bootloader is unlocked, the protection chip and the diode are evaporated noticeably.

Just to inform that i managed to flash my AES and Hex V2 cables by USB simply.

The cards are bought on Aliexx, as there are many sellers you have to have criteria to buy on Aliex. if no picture of the PCB in the ad, go your way to another seller.

1) Look at customer ratings and especially customer images that will be decisive.
2) Contact and ask the pictures of the PCB reel to the seller.
3) Enjoy :)

The originality of the components is a subject to debate but i think they are the same except perhaps the originals, it is my opinion.

I used the VCDS 18.9.exe that was provided with the cable at first (When I started the software you can see a pop up written VCDS loader 7.0)
Used the cable for a few moment and got the message/error when I tried to apply a long coding for a modification.

Since then, I've tried Kolimer 7.1 and 7.2 loader. uninstall VCDS 18.9 and reinstall apparently 18.9 VER 1.0.
Did flash the cable with Kolimer 7.2 utility but unable to get the CAN bus to respond.

The cable is still good, as under VagComHW the result is bootloader is available, ''hardware'' is 0x46 and FW is 1.96 or 1.95 if I remember correctly.

Should I retry flashing the cable ???

This TAN38 three-pin chip, the function is electrostatic protection (ESD), it is used for CAN bus static protection. can work without it.

Remove jumpers on J1-5, and you can flash, there is a pinout in the manual.

Partially means... in example 03-ABS i can't use function BASIC SETTING looks like disabled, another problem is 4 modules example Engine, ABS and 2 cant remember which, vcds show me message like Cant find .ROD file (look picture)

I am in the need of a new cable after a friend borrowed the computer and accidentally accessed the internet so now my it says my cabel is unregistered.

I have seen someone talking about HQ clone that you can buy and still be able to access the internet on the computer, i think this will be the way to go so it doesn´t happen again.
I only see people talk about the cable but no link to this HQ clone.

I have found two different cables on obd2cartools.com that i am choosing between.

The first one looks like it can be a HQ clone since it says it supports internet, and it also supports updates.

Keep following this thread. Download/save the files which will be published. At the same time grab latest VAG C0M from official site and save it too

I changed atmega162 as well and flashed gala chip again using content/correct dump from another forum (details PW). i Used programmerTL866 II Plus using instructions with lockbits and fuses, in package kolimer 7.2 there is any way ready project to open in tl866, so no need set lockbits and fuses, project is ready to flash.

thread goes extremely long, it's hard to read it whole :D. I've bought cable 17.1.3, somewhere here I've read it's good quality, but on another page I saw almost the same PCB with the same components (both) but they were on other locations on PCB.
As I saw cable is working with 17.1.3 software without any loader.

Col, if you installed the heatsink, I think it should have covered the entire metal surface of the voltage regulator for better heat dissipation.
Also, you should have used either thermal paste or thermal pads/tape for better heat conductivity between the voltage regulator and the heatsink.

I made some research and only information I was were about older (C6) model that we can program by ourselves without any software, just unplug module for 5s, reconnect and press remote button but I cannot find any information about programming it to C7 model so I thought maybe it is possible with VCDS?

Hi, every cable has its own program, you probably used all three cables with the same program, read a few pages back and you will solve your problem.
In this thread there would be much less pages if you first read and then ask a question. IMHO

Check the cable, take the cable from the working adapter, try to remove and reinstall the driver as administrator, turn off the digital signature check if you have Windows 8 or 8.1.

I do not remember exactly but I probably had a similar problem with the cable (18.2.0 EN). I had to install VCDS BLOCK.BAT first and then it started working. Later I updated it to 18.9.0 EN and PL.

And if you know everything about PCs, what are you doing in the forums?
R0$$ would offer you to try the cable on a different PCs, with different OS - their forum is full of those messages. So have you tried this?

And it's so hard to believe it's broken because the faulure rate of these is VERY small, besides, each and every is being checked (and reflashed) before shipping...

Also, can you post a picture of the cable which you received from Obd2CarTool?

I have done all of these things on PCs with WIN 10 7 and even XP.
When I install the drivers manually it still gives me the device descriptor error code.

So my conclusion was that it is broken.
But the first response I get from YIN is that its my hardware that is the issue, really?

So I asked on here if anyone had a similar experience and at least one person here has also had a adapter DOA.
But they are getting a replacement while I'm supposed to buy a new Laptop lol.

Whatever it's just 40€ so I'm not gonna bother you guys anymore.

Okay, so what exact component is broken according you? If someone got a replacement (with a VERY specific issue which has been checked and confirmed, BTW) this doesn't mean each and every person who's having any kind of problem will have a solution of replacing the cable (especially for one having zero rep and epsilon posts). Also, any ideas how did that interface pass the check before being shipped and then arrived broken?
Besides, the talk was about one exact interface, later on you posted pics of some crappy interface from Auto431X store; you didn't even share the pics of yours so nobody can even confirm you have one on hands.

Having said the above, Obd2CarTool store is the trusted source to get quality interfaces; they stand behing what they sell.

Disable win drivers signature check.

And, if the guy from OBD2...asked for Team Viewer, offer him this, is nothing wrong.

So I tried it and everything I thought was good. VCDS 18.9.0 EN and 18.9.0 CZ installed, running via loader 7.2 and also the cable was updated via ..... WriteLang, then update to 1.96 and all OK

Obviously your car must have CAN (2006+), if not, Can Not Ready will appear. If your car having CAN and you used last release of VCDS 18.9.1 + V7.2 Loader=>CAN Not Ready. Use 18.9.1 FIRST Release or 18.9.0 and will work.

you are forgetting that the cost of producing a product is not the only factor you have to take into account when setting a price. You have at least:
- transport
- packaging
- cost of maintaining a business ( installations, utilities, taxes, etc )
- the cost of labor, in this case people writing software for the product to work and also sales and support and whatever more is needed.
- and quite important too: since in this particular case you don't pay for software improvements, the cost of the cable must account for the fact that when you purchase it, it will be the only time you will be spending money with it.

So lets say that you make a product that costs 10usd to make, package and transport to the customer, but you only have one customer and he will only buy once. will you sell the product for 10usd? or will you sell it for 10 million usd? 10 million usd would allow you to pay for a 8 person team for 10 years making 100.000 usd year before taxes.

I have a cloned cable and the reason is, I use it once in a year and I don't think it is worth it to pay 200usd for a cable. but in all honesty, ross tech has the best pricing of all industry. they give you the same cable and price it so that enthusiasts actually have a chance to pay for it at a reduced price without loss of functionality while letting the bigger price for those that make money out of it. If the cable with vin restrictions would be priced at 100 usd I would certainly buy it.
Having said that, at a medium price of 300 usd, they have to sell around 3500 cables year to pay for a 8 person team making 100k without taxes per year each. I don't think that they are getting rich.

And yes, this is the chip recomended to be desoldered. Not mandatory, is sufficient to cut the copper line like in document. But i RECOMMEND to desolder that chip if is possible. And that second reseter too. Like in photo

Used cable which came with device and it shows as "Ross-Tech HEX or KEY USB Interface" but with error in Device Manager "This device cannot start (Code 10)" or as Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)..
Tried different USB cables (longer than 40cm) and still nothing..
but short cable (about 40cm which I've got with arduino clone) = no problem, also succefuly flashed 1.96 flash without any problems (detected as 0x46 with Bootloader Enabled), connected to vehicle (definietly cable is too short for normal usage) without any issues.

Anyone got idea what is going on?

ok, dispute opened with trader.

Contact between laptop and device is perfect, even with cable from vcds - arduino and midi controller works without any issues.

So device itself or firmware or drivers are bad.. but still I don't understand why vcds works with shorter cable :crushed:

You should read/search "if and how" you can manage to make your cable work again.

If you going to try that, read about usbasp programmer and how to use it.... if not, buy another cable, anyway your canle is old low quality hardware, no GAL/ATF.

My interface runs VCDS 17.1, I am trying to update to 18.9 or whichever is the latest working on my config:
ATMEGA162 16AU 1648H + FT232RL + L7805CV + ATF16V8B + MCP2515 IST 05D 1721 can controller + 2 x L9637D GK725 + NXP A1050/C JQP000 D722


Firmware is 1.96, VAGCOM_HWType.exe says HW is 0x46, and bootloader is disabled (unfortunately!)


It has a 6 pin programming interface (connectons to pins 1-6 on the ATMEGA chip) and 2 jumpers (see pics).


0) Is there a way to make a backup of everything before I begin experimenting? Using either the programmer or not

1) is there a way to enable bootloader?

I do have a USBASP programmer (but never used it before).

2) If yes, is the way I connected the 12V supply correct? PIN 4+5 I shorted to Ground, and pin 16 to 12V

3) How to unlock bootloader? From what I understand, this will help a lot with future updates?

4) Do I need to fix the VID and PID? VID is 0403 but PID is FA24 (does it need to be FA20?)

5) Tried VAGCOM_EEWriteLang.exe (took the two jumpers off) but got error "Not in Bootloader mode", so USBASP seems the way to go.

6) Any chance of some step-by-step instructions on how to put the interface into bootloader mode and update using USBASP?
I did read info.pdf from the 7.2 pack, but no idea what avrdude is (it is not in the pack!), what FuseBits means etc
The instructions should be more noob-proof I think

you search google for avrdude download and save avrdude.exe and avrdude.conf in unarchived directory with loader files, connect cable with usbasp, connect 12v, run appropriate cmd file according to your real hardware (not hwtype, check info.pdf), put loader exe into vcds directory and run it. Just take some more days reading this topic and eventually you will get answers to all your questions without even asking. You have made a good progress already.

0x44: ATmega 34 and 35 pins are connected to GAL pins 5 and 4 accordingly and GAL pin 9 is connected to some pin on the FTDI (use multimeter in diode testing mode to confirm).
0x46: no connection from ATmega 34 and 35 pins exist to any pins of GAL and GAL pin 9 is NOT connected to FTDI and GAL pin 5 is connected to FTDI.

HWType tool reports what has been flashed into the chip - it has no ability to check actual harware configuration. Since chinese incorrectly flashed your cable as 0x46, that's why it reported like that

I executed avrdude succesfully, installed vcds 18.9 and ran kolimer loader, however, the drivers refuse to load:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Step by step:
1. download the latest avrdude .zip archive (for windows) from here http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/avrdude/?C=M&O=D at the moment it is avrdude-6.3-mingw32.zip (http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/avrdude/avrdude-6.3-mingw32.zip)
2. extract archive
3. download libusb0.dll driver from here https://www.dll-files.com/libusb0.dll.html better 32-bit i think, place it in folder where you extracted avrdude
4. open cmd and change directory to folder with avrdude. Put cd and right click to paste your path.

In folder with avrdude you now have backup files of your atmega.

To restore your backup reflash it into your atmega162 proceed likewise but instead :r: for read before the
filenames put :w: for write. For flash you will give a command:

I do have a USBASP programmer (but never used it before).

Connections are good. To enable bootloader you need to flash it with firmware kolimer's firmware. Put right firmware files 0x44 or 0x46 (for example Flash1.96_HW_0x44.bin and eepromavr_HW_0x44.bin) in your avrdude folder and proceed with the commands given in the info file from kolimer.

I suggest the kolimer zip pack should be updated with a bit more help/documentation, like recommending the following config when installing VCDS to avoid lunching vcds.exe instead of Kolimer's loader, please see picture

I noticed L7805CV is getting incredibly hot even while testing with the plastic covers removed, I can only imagine what happens when the interface is assembled.
Some sort of cooling might be appropriate.

I also found out avrdude says something about not being able to set SCK, and recommends updating firmware on USBASP programmer, however, our cheap USBASP do not have jumper 2 to be able to get into firmware update mode. The original one actually has a 3rd jumper as well. If I would be to do this again, I would buy the original (although postage might be an issue)

For K solution never needed. I suggest desolder AES chip. That chip with 2x4 pins in neighborhoud of that 2 jumpers..

I uninstalled the interace from Device Manager and made sure to check "Uninstall driver"

Then, I installed VCDS again. Drivers worked fine after this

Simple for someone with skills, for me it was quite hard to solder a few wires to be able to program the thing... and I already had the programming pins.

You may use the existing pins from L7805CV by cutting off the 7805 an leave the pins on the PCB.
Or search for "TO-220 Heatsink" to cool down the voltage regulator...

I have to say, after updating from 17.1.0 to 18.9.0 I am getting some "Communication Error" errors... I installed 18.9.1 and still get them.
Randomly and not too often, but I never had a single one while on 17.1

Is there something I could check/do?

I did manage to do a full auto-scan, but still a bit concerned.

Yes, you are using incorrect combination of vcds and loader. Try older 18.9.x releases from your current.

I am not aware of any issues with the loader and 18.9.0

Hi, im having problems with my newly received hex v2 clone from aliexpress. It is not possible for me to get it working. Windows recognises the cable sometimes but vcds is not able to establish a connection, it freezes then inside test option. But mostly it does not get recognised by windows, instead it is shown as "unknown device" inside device manager. I was never able to get it working, tried at 3 PCs now... I attached a screenshot from device manager and pics from inside the dongle. maybe you can advise me .. thx
I tested it on my android phone and as soon as i plug it in, it gets recognised and iam offered to open it with torque. Inside torque it is showing me values. Sometimes my phone recognises it as "null" and sometimes it is recognised as " Ross-Tech HEX-USB"
Dont know if it is faulty hardware and I return it to the seller or if there is a way to get it working.
