Hi, I'm looking for a vcds with c-sniffer.
I'm currently using vcds 19.6.0 and I have a problem. When I try to enter 17 dashboard block (UDS), vcds crashes. No problem with other blocks (1 engine, 2 transmisstion CAN protocol).
Who is the developer of the c-sniffer utility? What versions of vcds does it work with?

Tested 08.022.04 and have a lot of bug's with 22.3.1 EN - sometimes licence revoked, interface not found, and the big big issue it's on Engine - Security Acces - 27971 - it is not working... (on the same car with the same software 22.3.1 EN but with Atmega162 interface it is working perfect)...the problem it is from VII PLus Loader. Also Tested with 21.9.0 ROJ sometimes licence revoked, sometimes interface nor found but the security acces on engine IT IS WORKING.
The last VII Plus Loader who work well foe me it is 08.021.13 with 21.9.0 EN and 21.9.0 ROJ.
PS. The Test Car It Is SKODA FABIA 2014 1.6TDI

I have a cloned VAG157 running on 15.7.0, been using it for the past 5/6 years without issue on my 2009 passat, tried to connect to my friends 2018 Tiguan but seems like its outdated, whats the best way to update them, do I need to update Firmware on VAG157? and get a newer update of VCDS? if so whats the recommendations for a stable version?

First of all, open up the case and check if you have ATmega162 chip inside.
And even better, make high-res pictures of both sides of PCB and post pictures here, the community will advise.
If there isn't any ATmega162 chip, then that interface is simply useless and not worth even a single minute of effort trying to make it usable

After reading the destruction manual, I've decided its better that I don't try and modify my lead, I'd prefer to keep it intact in its current operational state which I can keep as a backup, and purchase another lead which is preferably already good to go, is there a pre-configured lead? which somebody could recommend I buy? and from a recommended seller? (A bit like is recommended in the Autocom thread, in the "Read me" file there is the recommended lead from the recommended seller for that particular software which I purchased last night, in the hope it will be less problematic)

If I have read right, will the HEX-V2 do the job needed straight out the packet? only job needed is the re-flash from VAGCOM_EEWriteLang.exe utility? which is a simple job right?

And yeah, the setting up is as little headache as possible if you buy what's recommended there.

Hex-V2 STM32F405/429 VIIPlus firmware files:
This is all the firmware files I have extracted over time.
To get this to work on a 415 interface you will have to remove all crypto chip communication or perhaps emulate it.

Hex-V2 STM32F405/429 VIIPlus firmware files:
This is all the firmware files I have extracted over time.
To get this to work on a 415 interface you will have to remove all crypto chip communication or perhaps emulate it.

From J2 and right (the one with the small square) you have [VDD(+3.3v), GND, PA15, SWDIO, SWCLK, PB3] (The side of the PCB with the STM chip)

Both the bootloader and the firmware will check the RDP level and set RDP2 if not previously set.
This will completely disable the debug interface so you wont get any response if you connect a debugger.

Here are some info from ST about RDP2:

"When RDP Level 2 is activated, all protections provided in Level 1 are active and the MCU is fully protected.
The RDP option byte and all other option bytes are frozen and can no longer be modified. The JTAG, SWV
(single-wire viewer), ETM, and boundary scan are all disabled. When booting from Flash, the memory content
is accessible to user code. However, booting from SRAM or from system memory bootloader is no longer possible.
This protection is irreversible (JTAG fuse), so it is impossible to go back to protection Level1 or 0."

Despite this I found a way to revert it so I would not say it is impossible. When that said it took me nearly a year of research to figure it out.

First time launch VIIPlusLoader and see if update firmware is needed. If is needed do-it. If no, if use en no more need loader.

It had bootloader disabled. It needed cutting line to stc chip and soldering icsp programeer. That poor LED has one leg missing?
Also, there was no need to solder the 4th wire (Vcc) to MCP chip. Just power up via OBD2 and it will do the job.

Yes, i confirm that there are code security access issues in English. If you use another language 21.9 with loader 08.22.05 everything is ok. Yesterday, 22.3.1 appeared in the other languages but I didn't have time to test to see if there are the same problems.

the problem started after a recent connection to the vehicle.
when the laptop was connected it blocked and since then I can't connect to any module on the car
the interface blinks green when connected to the car I run vcds I click select and then the modules that have any on the car to click just a little as an attempt to open and nothing happens I can not access any module

I tried to reinstall the driver by deleting and the installation failed I deleted the entire program from the laptop reinstalled failed again
as far as i know this is a clon version not orginal ross tech

after that i get help from Mario6 to take look on this post and download all i need but after i use vag com hw type to see is bootloader enabled and yes it is
then i use vcds usb eeprom write english language selected and finished that
i start vcds whit interface and he ask me to update offline
after finished update
i do test and try to enter module on car

and her are pictures of all proceses what i do
this time he entered module on car but after few secunds give me a messege no response from controller!
i tried change of version of vcds tried whit difrent drivers loaders but no use

For me, the Kolimer loader 9.2 works fine. I checked on VCD$ 22.3.1EN and VCD$ 22.3.1AKP.
(old VW Passat B5 and B6)

But the SEAT ATECA 2019- "message -vehicle not supported".Buy or replace the interface with HexV2 or something like that.

Brought a hex 2 clone, but I can't seem to get it working.

It came with vcds 22.3.0 and vcds loader v2 08.022.01.

Under the test function the device is found successful.

However, under vcds interface config I get the message "an interface must be connected by Usb to use this program"

Can't run a scan, it shows "failure to communicate (0)".

Cable is connected to the car with the ignition on.

Can anyone help please?

It seems a virus of course, but it started after the last update of 22.3.1 ITT (with the fancy web page that ask you to confirm that you are using genuine interface). Anybody with same issue?

I have a China Clone HEX-V2 Adapter. I think its an ARM Chip model. Is there anything possible to update this adapter? I only saw possibilities for the ATMega162 Chip (or with modifications to the board with the ST-Chip).
The Adapter is bound to the VCDS 17.1.3.
Yesterday I'd connected the adapter to my Passat B6: first all went flawlessly, but after a while unfortunately the adapter wasn't able to connect to CAN. The Test menu in VCDS told me, that "CAN: not ready". What could be wrong?

is there any fix for 405 ARM illegal device i tested 22.3.1 EN + VIIPlusLoader 08.022.07 but 1st time it loaded vcds then the cable was blocked on the 2nd attempt i tryed to flash back with loader but same issue illegal device deleted all cleaned reg an reinstalled all but no joy

Hi there and thank you for your answer. With the help of another user (directly by DM, thank you again!) we could solve the problem: the VCDS software have a kind of pirating protection and after a while of usage, the software don't recognize the cable anymore. Solution: uninstall/remove everything Ross Tech related and reinstall everything again. Since that, the cable works again as supposed to.

Question regarding the mentioned ATmega162 cable: does the newer software (currently I use 17.1.3) e.g. 21.9 or 22.3 bring me any advantages for my "old" car (Passat B6 09/2005) compared to the version 17.3.1? I actually use the cable only for fault code readout and reset - no coding at this time.

first thanks to @hid3 for amazing help, currently I don't want to spam anymore to him :itsme:.

Situation is next:

We have bought VCDS clone cable with CD that had VCDS software versions 21.9 and 22.3, it did work without any problems until I made a mistake and run the program without Loader. Currently our cable is "locked" and it says Licence Revoked.

Then we went with Kolimer loader 9.2 and tried:

1. VAGCOM_HwType.exe (runs without any problems and shows current FW and HW versions).
2. VAGCOM_EEWriteLang.exe (runs till the end and I get an error saying Invalid Bootloader ?). What could cause this ?

I am attaching different pictures so You guys can see. What are next solutions ? Flashing through TL866 or ?
PS Is there anyone available to guide me, willing to pay.

vag12.12 cable disabled by newer than 12.12 vcds or networked vcds. Used Kolimer's VCDS Loader v7.1 got it all working perfectly with VCDS 18.9.

Was fortunate the cable (friend bought it a couple of years back) had bootloader enabled so no need for any HW mods. Just flashed the cable (failed 2x before 3rd times a charm) following by running vcds via vcdsloader, update to 1.96 and everything works. Just follow the directions in the info file in Kolimer's software package.

Here are the pics of what I have. Ignore the soldering marks on the USB red wire. It came loose so had to solder it back on. For whatever reason it had to solder onto C13 rather than then pad. I guess no continuity to the pad. Chinese manufacturing haha.

Bootloader enabled is mandatory for update by USB. But not for sure will work.
Lockbit = FF or CC usualy
If Lockbit = C8 upgrade will not work by USB.

It a HEX-CAN in a V2 case and and my experience is with new cables in my b7 A4: sometimes the physical connection is the problem. Try to push in the interface harder, meanwhile moving left and right bit. If the OBD2 port gives cracking sounds no worries. Iit's only moving under the holding claws.

Hello everyone!
After some years working fine, my ATmega162 interface stopped working correctly with VCDS 16.8 (that came on CD with it).
In details, VCDS doesn't show me options to calibrate Adaptive Cruise Control even if it sees correctly it's module (a couple of years ago was working fine) and from a week VCDS also doesn't allow me to enter and scan Engine Module (it recognizes the module and it's errors but when i try to open it the system doesn't preoceed.
I don't know what's the issue. Could they be problems related to VCDS? I already tried to unistall and install again the software provided with the interface, but the AAC problem still remains (i haven't tried a clean install for the new Engine Module problem).
Do you think a software update to newer versions of VCDS could solve my issues?

Also, I downloaded VCDS 20.4.2 and 9.2 Loader and the software recognizes my interface but, when i TEST it at the beginning, it shows me "not plugged into car" even if it is.
Is it related to an old firmware version of my interface?

I already made HD photos of my interface PCB.

May someone please help me?

Looking at other reviews this is what the cable looks like.

Is this a v2? Even the solders to the OBD connector look better than mine. On mine the obd pins are soldered directly on the pcb and the other is on a separate pcb. Don't know if that makes too much difference.

Both are V1, with different PCB layout.
Just the plastic case is V2 style.

V2 version PCB is totaly different and without ATMEL chip (it uses STM chip).

I think I have tested both: with and without Louder. I will test 1 more time to be 100% sure that I have tested also with Loader(from now 99% I am sure that it is not working). But the question it's: Why with 21.9.0 EN it is working? And with all 22.3.0 / 22.3.1 / 22.9.0 English Software it is not working? Did you test it on your cars?(maybe this bug it is only for 1.6 CR TDI E5) I so that they are colleges on this group who wait from other colleges to test and check... If use the version VCDS 21.9 with the Loader 9.2 all works fine and the licence of VCDS keep to valid /activated during and after some test and clear DTC codes.


But if use the version VCDS 22.9 with the Loader 9.2 the licence change from to valid /activated to invalid/blocked when start a dashboard-instrument test o clear DTC code of any modules.

I installed and run it. When the software is start, detected the version of VCDS 22.9 but say "no device connection is detected. data read is failed. Starting software (not ensure the SW is correct)"

You have an ATMEGA interface, you need to use Kolimer loader.

VIIPlusLoader is for STM interface, HEX-V2 version. It will not work on ATMEGA interface.

1. If I install the last software 22.3.1 ITT I can not open because ask me for licence(see the attach pict.)

Did you try to install 22.3.1 Italian version? Original version direct from Ross Tech Italy. If you can install, when you press double click on vcds.exe the software dont run(check the attached foto). you dont need interface to open vcds.exe! You need interface to activate and to scan a car...but it is a long way until this step...because the software vcds.exe it is NOT OPENING(all vcds software after install, when you press vcds.exe must run the software/not tested one/ but must open)...It is irelevant whan interface I have... My question was strictly about the software 22.3.1 Italian one, Original one... You understand now? In 10 min you can test and see...
And for 21.9.0 ITT Yes I have changed the date and the same error...It is not opening vcds.exe because told me tha the software it is old... In this case I dont know nothing about the software if is original or not...

I installed and run it. When the software is start, detected the version of VCDS 22.9 but say "no device connection is detected. data read is failed. Starting software (not ensure the SW is correct)"
May be this "VIIPlusLoader-08.022.09.003" solve the issue.?

Just by curiosity, how are you planning on changing / swapping the STM chip on this PCB. Do you have that kind of soldering skills?

Back to your question then the answer is no. You wont be able to use the VIIPlusLoader even if you change the chip to a STM32F405.
In fact the 415 is an upgraded 405 so it will support the same code but it also has an embedded crypto engine not present on the 405.
And to your second question then yes. The PCB is different and the interface supporting the VIIPlusLoader is also embedded with an external crypto chip used to authenticate the firmware on the STM.
Without this chip you will need to patch / crack the 405 firmware so it will run without this chip.
(A lot of this info preexist on this forum if you search for it. Some of these VIIPlus fimrwares has also been publicly shared on this forum but they need patching to work on the 415)

Anyway, I assume you are only able to use VCDS 20.4.1 and you want to upgrade your interface to use a newer VCDS version?

I have 21.9 v2 cable with atmega 162 inside with license revoked error and for some reason it fails in the end when i try to flash to any language with VAGCOM_EEWriteLang.exe (invalid bootloader).
I can read and erase fault codes in 21.9 with loader, but in some error descriptions it says unlicensed no info on error code, but can still erase these errors. And in about section it says license revoked.

2. Stop dream. My last good version was 20.4.1 EN and 20.4.2 ROJ. 20.12 said "license revoked" after few use. And yes, my PC is protected against vcds.exe or another .exe from RT access internet.

Indeed, agree with the post above.
If you take photos of older-generation cables, produced before ~2019 (before all that shortage, global reset and fake chips issue started) you'll notice totally different markings on them.
To remind you, chinese used to write VCDS version with a pencil on ATmega chip itself. This tendency was there without exception dating back to 805 VCDS version (back in 2008) up until 18.9 or so. Nowadays this has either become rare or disappeared at all. So something must have changed, eh? Or just chinese guy who was doing that, has died?

First fake chips appeared in "fake-V2" cables - chinese started putting fake ATA6561 (or was it NXP 1057?) CAN chips which died after several uses. I personally myself suffered from this issue.

Another batch - STM405/415 with burning out voltage regulators. Same thing - fake regulators which burn out after serveral uses.

A few more things I'd like to add:
- usually manufacturers use some markings in red to denote either rejection after quality inspection or not full package of the item; (pay attention to red dot on ATmega)
- among datasheets I cannot find any 16U-TH....
- proper ATmega162 marking were "16AU" with datecode afterwards, in the same line. This was the last line, there shouldn't be any furhter markings below. However, looks like Microchip (after acquiring Atmel) has changed their marking system a little bit. Then

Hi,

I got a big big big issue with my VCDS. It is 20.4.2 version. Before when starting kolimer software it shows "x64" but now it shows x86 but all the long code helper text/info about each bit is away, in not only ABS but EVERYTHING.

Please how do i solve this? anyone with knowledge? I tried removing the software, re-install it in not only 1 but 2 win 10 64bit laptops with cable connected to car and without. It still dont show me long code helper texts on each bit. This happen after i had the car plugged in to a Golf 7, but it was working by the time, after that i have no idea what happen and now its stuck like this :/

Maybe worth trying reinstall them in series until 20.4.2, I will give it a try:)

Hello, is it possible to check what version flashed do I have in my cloned hex-v2 cable. I bought cable some time ago from aliexpress. It was working for some time and then suddenly stopped. When I bought it I got version 17.8.0

From what I remeber few times I had internet on in my PC while using ap, so I guess my cable got banned ?

Currently my PC detects cable , shows that interface detected, but connecting to car does nothing. Also no leds while connected to PC.
Led appears only when connected to CAR

Viiplusloader don't affect the security access issue as I use the English version no loader and 21.9 works and newer versions don't. Thought there might be a cable update with the new loader so no point me installing now.

difficult to say because your pictures are in low resolution but if the chip on board is an atmega162 you can repair it and use it with last vcds version.

Mine vcds has the same 415 chip. It should be working on 20.41 with no loader. Basically when starting up the vcds app first time everythings looks promising... First full scan looks ok. When I try to jump to any module from scan window for example trying to enter HAVC module and check dtc when leaving the dtc window it looks like it cannot stop connecting to the module but still connecting doing refresh of the connection and I have to force to close the window using cancel. is this any bug in 415 chip or mine is just bugged somehow? Thanks for response. @Bardax could you guide me to update my cable fm to use newer vcds version? Maybe it should be any solution.

If your hardware is 17.1, then you can only use 17.1 or 16.84 software, if you need, I can pass you the software. Or you need to remove the two short circuit blocks on the PCB, and then update the program in the 162 to the kolimer version, so that you can use the loader and the latest software
