    Default SERMI certificated

    Sermi, is a certification needed to use online services provided by car manuafactures.


    New produced cars, will be fitted with secured gateway. You can read dtc, measuring values, etc.
    But not erase dtc, open calipers to change brakepads, online coding, reflashing components, key programming etc.


    Unless you are Sermi cerifited. And have a account to the brand you want to work on, plus the software and hardware.


    Dealers dont need this, they have allready acces to the vehicles, and security data.
    Only if a dealer wants to work on other brands. They need to.


    Who does not have a Sermi, will not be allowed to work on immo related parts.
    Ecus, locks, keys.


    Who need this:
    Independent car repairers
    Car body repairers


    What is needed:
    A copy of the Chamber of Commerce extract.
    A statement that you do not carry out any activities related to the adjustment of vehicle emissions.
    A certificate of conduct. (Declaration of Good Conduct.)



    I wonder, if this is a good or a bad thing.

    It is being introduced into the uk , but seems slowly.

    the plus side is that you will have access to dealer online systems you pay for accounts and hardware for but will in some cases be tied to dealer supplied keys , depends if the costs offer payback.

    this is only for access to dealer systems , you can continue to do your work without this if your tools support the cars , ie you dont need dealer access to complete the job with your tools. so if your tools and cables can work around the gateways etc as is the case with some systems then you dont need it .

    you either buy a mix of both , go all in on sermi and costs for dealer kit and access or you work without it with the tools you have .

    the new way to lock the aftermarket tools out of future cars , luckily not before i retire .

    useful if specialising in 1 or 2 brands , not so useful if wanting full coverage . face it with car theft on the rise , pricecutters for keys all over the net , look how quick i can do a china key on a car videos on you tube etc have all forced their hand to take action.

    i wonder how it will affect tools like osca etc , if they have dealer tools and access still many will jump on these tools for coverage , if locks them out then choices become more limited .

    This SERMI is from EU -
    Thought UK left why should we and rest of world be involved


    Doubt martin this will grant access to OBD port gateways like Fiat Jeep - that's an additional cost which we'll see from increasingly more manufacturers


    Hay by the time we finish paying for all this, how to make profit ?

    from what i have read it doesnt give access to anything , just means you can pay for access and hardware to use system , it gives you a right to access if you pay as vetted by 3rd party

    luckily with retirement not far off i will be kicking my heels on a beach in the sun by the time it all comes off , with the trade being in the past , i guarantee i wont look back
