    Default 2003 Zafira 2.0 dti P0380 (b)

when starting the car, the EML stays light, read codes and got p0400 and p0380, known sticky wahler elec egr on the car, need to clean inlet etc, but the p0380 seems random, because i clear the code when the car is running, then pump the brake pedal rapidly and can always 100% get the p0380 (b) code back, so i'm thinking the pedal pumping is starving the system of vacuum, so i either have a vac leak of a faulty vac pump, but why the p0380 (b) code with pedal pressing? anyone shed any light please?

Doesn't make much sense that code P0380.
What scanner are you using to read the codes?

i'm using opcom, been told a fault in the brake circuit even a bulb out could bring the eml on? is someone pulling my pisser? also checked a couple of vac pipes, all done with no key in the ignition etc, got the vac pipe that goes to the vaccum solenoid on the pass inner wing by the battery, this doesn't hold any vacuum at all, using the tongue and suck method , it just seems to hum/buzz till all the vac is gone? is this right? should i try with ignition on or engine running? checkeb batt voltage too, seems fine.

Brake circuit fault can bring the EML on, but then you would get a code for the brake signal as well.
You can check the brake signals in live data with the engine running.

just found one vacuum pipe that has been joined with a thin floppy silicone hose, pretty sure that shouldn't be there! , got a brake light out too. Tbh i think i've got a couple of issues that are throwing me a bum steer and they need to be tackled one by one and probably aren't even linked

    1. p380 could be due to starter overload during starting because the earth lead from starter to batt is hot and i mean hot.
    2. car smokes when labouring or when you boot it. Because car runs so well i think it's a simple vac issue.
    3. p0400 EGR fault prob linked to vac issues plus poor maintence, so a little inlet decoke and egr lubing wouldn't go a miss.

should that vacuum solenoid hold vac when the ignition is off then or not?

these do throw up eml faults when stoplight bulb out, usually brings up stoplight switch open circuit fault. now i check in abs for open circuit faults & check bulbs. vacuum pipe should stick to your finger with a good old bit of spit with engine running. for egr, glow plugs have 3 stages, pre, during & after glow to bring engine up to temp for emissions. if earth lead getting hot i'd check all earth connections for less than 0.5ohms resistance to battery
