    Default What is "00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95)" problem?

    Hi!
    I'm new in OBD II diagnostic world and I use the VAG912 beta software and hrdware. Today I mad scanning for error's on a Passat B4 TDI and I found some fault code. I have some question about how to repair and what are this thinks:

    1. Fault code:

    What did the *.lbl files are ?

    For what is this number for:

    Can I find somewhere a description about how to use the numbers like N95? and so on?

    In the attachment is the full log file from the car.
    What should my first step bee to solve the error's?

    Any advice for a novice in OBD II diagnostic are well come.

    Driver AirBag high resistance, most likelly a bad clockspring.

    Can somebody tel me what is the number N95? is it a test point on the wiring diagram or?

    The N95 is like a name, it stands for airbag igniter in this case. These descriptions are are used for electrical components and you'll find them named in this way in the diagram. The letter stands for the tpe of component, for example m is elect. motor etc., the number I think is just to distinguish one from the next

    For Airbag igniter, check under the driver seat. Check that connection .

    Can you tel me what is the voltage on the airbag connector in the steering-wheel? I mean that two wire when I disconnect the air bag and take them out. When I turn ignition on I have a voltage on that connector around 0.4-0.6v. I think it is to small.

    I checked that spiral cable under the air bag and I found them broken. Changed it with a new one but error still same.

    Is the igniter switch in the air bag or is it some where else in the car?

    What is the best way to test the signals on the connector without an air bag tester?

    I think that's pushing the theme a little too further... the driver airbag (which is mainly mounted on the steering wheel, at least in Portuguese vehicles...) under the seat ??

    Ok, I solved this problem with this air bag. Simple, the customer wont buy a new airbag and hes wish was to turn off the driver side airbag until he get the money and buy a new1 airbag.

    I did it so:
    - disconnected the negative clip from battery
    - disconnected the airbag from the steering wheel
    - on the connector where the airbag was connected I connected a resistor with 2.2Ohm/0.5w
    - connected back the negative clip on the battery
    - cleared the DTC fault code for the airbag.
    Now is everything ok. No fault code, no driver side airbag installed, warning lamp is OFF.

    the problem with this is the legal liability of someone who has intentionally made the system inactive.
    as far as what is wrong, the ignitier is in the air bag ecm. it ignites the airbag & it detontates, hi resistance codes are usuaally cause by clock springs but since the resistor solved the issue, it must be a failed airbag assembly.
    they actually have a service life anyway, the chemicals that set them off dont last foreever
