sat tv in the 90's

What way do you all think of the way satellite tv has changed over the years. For me i miss d2mac, maybe because it was the beginning of satellite tv for me. In the 90's when we had mtv and discovery i liked the way mtv europe was one channel viewed by all of europe, discovery to along with so many english language european channels, then when digital came,technology improved each country got there own mtv, discovery etc. In mtv's case it was all about money, regional mtv's more ads, more money, now mtv is complete crap. I miss the old days of tv when tnt replaced cartoon network at 8 or 9, same with tlc and discovery and living and the fantasy channel. I miss them days.

There were some good channels about then, Superchannel on 13E was one. It was weird because it had the ITV news on it, then after, the BBC weather.

If your telling the truth your about 15. When i got into satellite tv in 1997 i was 15, at that age i was huge into d2mac, weird as i was so young.

I remember Red Hot Dutch on eutelsat, that channel is what started me off on the satellite hobby, back in 1992, i had to get a 80cm mesh dish and an IRTE Multisat that moved the LNB not the dish, that got me 19e,16e,13e,10e.

I was amazed at the d2mac picture quality from the Scandinavian birds.

In those days, feedhunting was well worth it as most feeds was in the clear showing major sporting events.

27.5 WEST channels were great,my fav's @ that time & free.Thay were benelux channels.

One thing i liked about satv before digital came along, was when channel were encrypted, the colours on screen, movement, sound of the channel, not like digital a black booring screen with no sound, unless you have a card.

were they in mpeg-1? as i cant remember . there was the parlimentry channel head-end feed for ntl,s.i.s. the bookies feed in b-mac,tv1000cinema,bbc prime in d2mac,the travel channel and cmt were on that bird aswell. i also had a converted phillips bsb reciever from trac in middlesbrough but traded it in for a phillips bde with 2 card readers,regards mdt

When I first had Sat tv(1990), on 27.5W there was:

Discovery, CNN, BBC World, SF Succe(Swedish film channel which was bought by TV1000) D-Mac. Later Bravo(UK) started up, showing old films.


I had a Finlux receiver/positioner, 90cm dish, a chapparal "twister" polarizer and two lnbs, one for normal frequencies and another for the french channels on 5W. Also a Filmnet decoder and a Canal+ decoder. Cost me over ?1200 altogether.

Thank god things are cheaper, today.

Hi folks, I've got a Manhattan Plaza ST350 with a Dragon twin CAm with Firecrypt. I'cve got the whole motorised system with 90cm dish and Disecq motor and low Db Universal LNB. I'm cosidering re-installing this but it's been so long ago that I've practically forgotten everything re priogramming the card etc.
Can anyone tell me if this is a feasible exercise or should I just scrap the lot and get a sat deambox?
