Restore 3GS to any firmware - SiNfuL iPhone
many of you have been asking on how to fix 1604, 1603, 1602, 1601, 1600 error in iTunes during firmware restore. This error is occurred when you are trying to restore your jailbroken custom iPhone 3.1.3 .ipsw file
To get around this problem, there is a handy little tool called iREB (iTunes Restore Error Bypasser) for Windows which can help you bypass the error when you are restoring .ipsw file in iTunes. The latest version of this program works with iPhone 3.1.3 firmware running on the original iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPod touch 1G/2G.
Follow the steps below to bypass this error so that you can restore iPhone 3.1.3 firmware in iTunes.
Step 1: Start iTunes and put your phone into DFU mode:
Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time. After exactly 10 seconds release the Power button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. At this point your iPhone/iPod touch screen will remain black.
Step 2: Now close iTunes and Start iREB on Windows.
Step 3: Simply select your device and wait for a few seconds until you get white or a red screen on your iPhone or iPod touch.
Step 4: Now open iTunes and select your phone from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left ?alt? button (?Shift? button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on ?Restore? (Not ?Update?) button in the iTunes and then release the ?Shift? button. Select a custom .ipsw file and restore it.
That?s it! iTunes should now be able to restore your iPhone or iPod touch to the latest iPhone 3.1.3 firmware without any problems. Hopefully you wont get any errors this time around!
One thing to note here is that iREB is not for jailbreaking. It is only used for restoring to custom .ipsw firmware files via iTunes without any errors.
There are 2 methods you could use. The TinyUmbrella method or the hosts file method. 2 things you will need for either of these methods: The firmware IPSW file for which you want to restore to and putting your iDevice into DFU mode.
TinyUmbrella Method:
-Download the firmware IPSW file from the link above
-Connect your iDevice to your computer
-Open up TinyUmbrella if you have it, if not, then go here to download it -- If you already have the latest version of TinyUmbrella, than connecting your device is not needed anymore
-Click the device under "Connected Devices" (or "Recent Devices" if you don't have your device connected)
-On the top of the right side, you will see "Save SHSH"...click that and TinyUmbrella will save ALL of the SHSH blobs that your device has on file with Cydia.
-On the left-side menu, click "Show All SHSHs" to make sure you have the SHSH saved for the firmware you want to restore/upgrade/downgrade to.
-Assuming you do have your SHSHs backed up, click "Start TSS Server" on the top of the right-hand side
-Put your iDevice in DFU mode (Click link above for intructions on how to do this if you're not sure)
-Once you've done that, then go into iTunes and Shift+Restore, find the firmware IPSW file you downloaded and click ok
NOTE: You might get an iTunes error 1015, 1013, 1011 message but that's normal. The restore was successful, just use TinyUmbrella to kick it out of recovery mode.
Hosts file method:
The hosts file for Windows is found at C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and is called "hosts".
The hosts file for a MAC is found at /private/etc/ and is called "hosts".
Go into the file and open it with a text editor and add the following line to the bottom:
