Default Zafira GSi Intermittant boost problem

I have a problem with my Zafira GSi turbo, sometimes it boosts perfect and other times it feels like it's not boosting at all or hesitates before boosting. I have checked for codes using OPCOM but nothing comes up, I have taken a livedata recording if someone would be kind enough to have a look at it for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Post the live data then and we'll have a look to see if we can find anything

If you can find someone near you with the same engined car, might be worth swapping bits over one at a time to isolate the fault. Typical things that go wrong on this engine, or play up are the AFM, front or rear BCS's, the MAP sensor, and of course the turbo, although if it's intermittant, it's unlikely to be the turbo. Other than the turbo, these are all easy to swap over. Good luck.

Looking at the data, the first thing I would try is the AFM, they cost a bit, so try and find one to try first before you buy. There are a couple of forums AOC and AON in the UK which have Zafira members, might find someone near you.

I've only owned the car for a week so not sure what sounds are normal but it does sound like a hoover when accelerating even at very low revs. I have checked the hoses but can't see anything obvious. A few people have told me it could be the AFM as they don't always throw up codes when they're faulty.

What can you see in the data to diagnose a faulty AFM?

If you look at column M (RPM) and O (Mass Air Flow KG), there are places where they don't seem to quite match, and the KG/h seems to fluctuate. Check columns 1585, 1685, 1693, 1800 .... seem to be glitches.

This is just a guess of course as I'm not a mechanic, but I had a Zafira GSi a while back and the AFM played up, no messages, car just didn't 'feel' right, a bit hesitant, new AFM fixed it.

Ideally find someone near you with the same engine and swap over the AFM's to try, as they cost around ?80 I think.

The Hoover sound might be the induction sound, this can be a bit louder than normal if someone has de-restricted the airbox.

Oh, check the air filter, if it's got an 'oiled' panel filter, I would recommend getting rid of it, use a standard Vauxhall one and change it every 4-6K, the AFM's don't like panel filters if they have been over oiled.

what air filter is fitted to the car?
if is an cone filter, get rid of it and fit an panel filter. Pipercross og KN, that will do your car good..

if it is an cone filter,, cantact the person that you bougth the car off and get the airfilter box, then you could mount is back in place....

Thanks for all your replies and advice guys, I have fixed it!!

I took off all the air intake hoses and found the vac line into the FPR was disconnected (see pic). I re-inserted it and it drives lovely now - nice cheap fix!

The car is all standard btw.
