Default Starview Box 7 - Purchasing and Updating

    hi all,

i have read through all of the pages on this thread and i am looking at purchasing the new starview box 7 as my starview boxes 2 and 4 are now dead

i was thinking of buying this box

due to being a newbie and reading all the info i can get from this forum. if i were to buy this box can i install the new firmware (version 1.04 downloaded) following these instructions and it might work? do i need to do anything else before installing the new firmware?

    INSTRUCTIONS:
    option 1
put it on stick, load on to box, dont do factory reset, go to ss1, type in 1819, it should be working, make sure lan connectiion is in, thats how i done mine and its going fine, hope this helps

    option 2
    after upload of new firmware via pen drive,do channel search,go to ss1,see scramble,press 1819 on remote,see enable,press ok,your on

    option 3
    1. Copy the file to your USB pen drive
    2. Install
    3. Restart
    4. Do a factory reset
    5. Scan for channels in your area
    6. When channel scan completes go to a channel and type 1819
    7. Wait a few minutes and connection should be established

i hope someone can let me know if i have missed anything off or of anything else i need to do when i buy the box before installing the new firmware.

    many thanks

I would think twice mate about going down the cable path. I got a new starview in january and it went off for 2 months. what you might want to do is have a read in the satellite forums on here and then think about it. I got a dreambox when the starviews went off and to be honest i wouldnt dream of going back to cable now. Theres lots more channels on satellite and if youve got a s*y dish still on your house like i did then you can get the boxes cheaper than the starview. Plus even now all the channels arent on starviews

thanks for your post and your opinion much appreciated but reading the threads the starview boxes 6 & 7 are back up. i am on a cable package so i wont be going to satelite. but thanks anyway

main question i am trying to get resolved is if i buy the box do i need to do anything before i try the instructions i supplied? or can i get stuck in and upload the latest firmware?

    thanks

also be aware this box has a limit of 1 year from connection to server, after that you buy a new box.if you get a year then good, there is no knowing when box might go down.

hold on for another 4 weeks i would say m8, they both have channels down at the moment. rumours are all the channels will be back for KV in the next couple weeks, just wait till then.

whatever firmware you put on at the moment, you wont get full service yet, most of the channels are working but there are some that isnt working yet, like not all movie channels are working yet, but all sports and asian channels are working.
