Default ross sd reciever with sky dish

Hi there a friend of mine has bought a ross sd reciever to connect to an old sky dish for fta on 28 east. But my question is will he be able to use the sky dish and sky lnb to pick up 19 east fta if it was pointed at this sat. I know the reciever will pick up these sats and work with its own dish and lnb, but was just wondering would it be able to pick up others with the sky dish or can a sky dish and lnb only be used for 28 east??? The dish is zone 2. many thanks for any info.

yes you can. if dish has been up a few years, it may be pointing that way already, because sky used to use 19

Default Sky tv through Ross sd box

Hi I have also bought a Ross SD satellite kit

What I am trying to do is slightly different to what's been posted
But hope someone could help all the same.

I'm not using the dish supplied,
    Using my sky dish.
What I've done is plugged in the wire from port two on the dish and plugged It into the Ross box.
What I'm trying to do is pick up my existing Sky channels.
I have a sky box down stairs on the main tv. But want to get the same channels I.e sky sports/movies can anyone instruct me as to how install sky channels pls.

Cant happen mate, you need a card to clear those channels.
You can scan them but not clear them.

well , you mentioned sly in your post so he means a subscription sly card paired to the sly box , same as your sky box uses (1 card , 1 box)

that is the only way to view sly channels , by the use of a sly card that is being subscribed to , in a suitable box ( not your ross box )

Gotcha. So im sure I understand,
What your saying is because the Ross box hasn't got a card slot
There is no way of getting the sky channels.

I dont know your box , but the lack of a card slot does not help , and even if ut did there is no reason to suppose that it would accept a sly card to decode their channels anyway , never mind sports and movies which is where your original sly card is tied or paired to your original box

and without a working sly card system there is no way to view their channels as their encryption is so good

so the simplest way for you is get multiroom off sly , where each box is paid for and has its own card

the free channels dont need any cards which is probably what your ross box is , a freesat box for freesat channels , whereas you are trying to use it as a sly box , and failing to do so

it is what it is , not what you want it to be

You need a paid subsription card from Sky and a receiver capable of decrypting the sky encryption.
Without the card it wont work.
The sky signal is decrypted using card and receiver, you need both.
